That's probably true, but from tlou part 2, they added infected being migratory. So I'm not really sure Canada would be 100% safe, as they can probably swarm during summer, and migrate away during winter. Now, assuming infected can survive for 20+ years, as in the show Joel said some infected can survive that long, and rat king is an infected that has survived for 20+ years. It's difficult for humans to settle in places with "extreme" conditions for 20+ years without support/supply from other places. Not to mention, if spores being a vector of infection like in game, with physics being more realistic, all of us would just become infected in like a month pretty much everywhere around the world except those extreme places anyway.

A *gasp* actual Wyomingite here... yes one of the 581,390 people who actually live in this state. Our summers can get pretty warm, but they are dry (as evidenced by the lightening show whenever I pet my cats with the lights off at night)...as for the mountains... yeah cool, thin and extremely dry, thin air (lowest elevation is still over 3,000ft asl) in the summer, and bitter cold snowing winters. Fungus can survive in a dormant state until late-spring early summer when snowmelt causes massive areas of alpine marsh and wet lands before the water drains off. We're also kinda gun crazy up here....

It's just weird to me how every zombie movie has the outbreak happen entirely at once. Even when the disease makes some sense, I still can't wrap my head around how everything just thanos snapped overnight. With covid it took almost three months before lockdowns were suggested in the US, and they weren't enforced all that much. I want a zombie show that shows the slow transition from normalcy to unprecedented levels of decimation, like people know the outbreak is real and can see news footage, but society is still somewhat running until a thread snaps. Show the paranoia from randos shooting and looting when there isn't even a reported case in their town, then slowly thin everyone out with the plane crashes, gridlock and power outages.

this show does at least give a reasonable explanation for why everything when to shit so fast, since the fungus mutated to get into grain/flour and as joel says in the 3rd episode certain products are sold globally and flour is used in a lot of food it would mean a lot of people would get infected by eating tainted food. And in the show there are certain parts that didnt go down the drain instantly, Bills town for example was still a calm place with no infected a week after the outbreak while joels hometown got wrecked overnight.

It would make sense if many areas of Canada remain relatively as normal as a country could be in this world. For example, my home province of Newfoundland and Labrador is in eastern Canada and has an island portion along with a mainland portion that is only connected by one Highway that stretches 100‘s of kilometres through wilderness. The population here is 520,000 yet our land area is larger than the UK. This makes the population here incredible sprawling with the average population in each municipality having only around 2,500 people per. Also due to our geographical position my province is home to many military installations and a few bases. Newfoundland and Labrador also has a plethora of natural resources such as iron, fish, nickel, copper, lumber, and oil which adds importance in holding it as a land area. All of this without mentioning that the fungus would likely have a harder time surviving in the harsh Winter climate in north-eastern Canada and it gives me all reasons to believe that the place I live would do better than most places in a Last of us type scenario. Or so I like to think.

Bombing has a suprisingly low impact on containment. What you want to do is the usage of napalm or more destructive "petroleum bombs" that create a mist of burnable vapor before burning. HE bombs on the other hand as seen does little more then create craters, so what can we know for sure? Low population areas are safer then high and as mentioned in the video the more north the safer you are. It is safe to assume that *Iceland, Siberia, Scandinavian peninsula, Northern Japanese islands, North Korea, Canada, Alaska, Greenland, Feroese islands, Scotland, Shetland, North Ireland ( If wall is reconstructed ) and Kazhakstan* should be safe.

I know it would literally be fan fiction but someone made a video that basically covers the after-effects of the resonance cascade in Half-Life. It goes right from the first hints the outside world gets that something is really wrong in Black Mesa's part of the country, through the governments trying to deal with all the nasty and hostile life from Xen, all the way up to Breen negotiating humanity's surrender. Seeing that for the weekend-long apocalypse Joel describes would be cool, maybe out till the described retreat into the quarantine zones.

How governments react depends a lot of political competency. I'm in Taiwan. Unlike most countries where governments kept blathering about "the economy" instead of stopping the spread of C-19, Taiwan's government took immediate action. And by immediate, I mean testing people for fever at airports in December 2019, sending out warnings which the world ignored. By March 18, the island was closed, and anyone wanting in was subjected to three weeks of quarantine. Compare that with the UK which, as an island had the chance to keep it out but their corrupt and incompetent rightwing government caused 25,000-100,000 unnecessary corpses by deciding to deliberately mix infected elderly people with the uninfected.

I actually worked in a big barn in Salem Oregon that was a mushroom growing business. It was tall and they grew in the dark on levels in open bins or cubicles. We dressed like miners. Hat a hat with a light on it. You went up a ladder to the higher floors. This was in the 1960’s. They told us what size mushrooms to pick. It was strange but a job. It had to be kept dark. A big door go open near the top. Sunshine got in and those mushrooms grew out through every crack there was. It was freaky. I quit after that and went to work in a old folks home. Still have a polished stone one of the old men gave me. He was from Germany. I keep it I’m my jewelry box. Always remember him and the mushrooms. I wouldn’t eat one for anything. Was interesting tho. Then I moved back to CA and worked in a laundry and a potato field. Oh, I’m 83. Have a family and friends. Worked for 20 years as a teacher aide. K-8 grades. That made up for the weird mushroom time.

Despite knowing so little about the rest of the world outside of the US, TLOU is super heavy on the world building, especially in part II In part 1 we learn about the Fireflies and FEDRA who have bases and camps across the US, raiders in Boston, Philly, Jackson, and Tommy’s settlement as well In part II we learn about the WLF stationed in Washington, a faction that took down FEDRA in their area but is currently at war with another faction the Seraphites. We also learn about the Rattlers who are slavers in Santa Barbara, and the story and characters themselves are so much more numerous and complex. I love TLOU so much

Most Fungus cannot survive below freezing cold temperatures - but their spores can. So even if the cold of winter kills of all the fungal zombies their spores would wake up in the spring. If you lived in the arctic circle where it’s freezing all year long you’d probably be zombie free. There are some cold-adapted funguses so you’d just have to pray those don’t evolve to control humans

There are guns in Britain .22s, .32s, .38s, 9mms, and double barrel buckshots and hunting rifles mainly, but their not that common. So you'd find most British people wearing hardened leather armour, maybe newspaper wrapped arms and wearing kickboxing shin and knee armour, hockey masks, steel toe boots, wellies or footballs shoes, Cricket bats with nails in and knives and machetes, axes and wooden stakes, crossbows and bows, they'd smelt frying pans into helmets.

Well the zombies are still human, they dont live forever. It's set 20 years after the outbreak so the vast majority of zombies probably starved or died of thirst a long time ago.
