Thanks for the video. I like Redding and its products. I am sure the Redding dies are a great [and probably superior] option to the Lee carbide dies. But, here in Montana, range .40 caliber brass is becoming scarce and .357 Sig is even rarer. I just pickup my own brass and avoid the issue because I shoot a H&K USP.40. My concern is about my attempt to use 9mm range brass to reload for my old Model 59 S%W and much newer Sig 226 9mm. Even though you did not address it , at least in this video, the Glock bulge is alive and well in 9mm. Approx. 40% or more of my 9mm finds have enlarged bases and need correction. But it seems that no reloading company, including Redding & Lee produce dies in 9mm for this problem. I have seen some KZbin videos that claim one or two of the small custom type sizing dies address this issue but I have no first hand experience. So, if you would be so kind, what do you do for the tapered 9mm cases? While I find many good things about Glocks, I refuse to own them because of the unsupported chambers and the a typical rifling system. At the present, the large numbers of swollen brass cartridges really enforces my prejudices.

I reload everything. I have been reloading for 60+ years. I trust my reloads but I continue to learn each and every day. I started loading 10mm before I was able to get a case gage. A case gage is your very best friend. I did not know about the 10mm bulge when I started but quickly found out. I finally located a GR-X die and use it extensively. I also did not know that some manufactures use small pistol primers instead of the standard large pistol primers. I started culling the small primer pockets out maybe to be discarded. Well, I decided to load the small pockets and quickly found out that most of the small pocket brass was not affected by the “Glock bulge” as the brass with the large primer pockets. Happy reloading and happy shooting. Be safe and take your family with you. Raymond Walker Homer Alaska

I recently decided to start reloading and I have been hearing and seeing a lot on KZbin about the Glock Bulge and how Glock says not to use reloads/handloads, so I checked my owners manual , for my Glock, and it says, don't use reloads/handloads in this gun ( I shortened it but that's basically what it says) so then I looked at the owners manual for my Smith and Wesson 40, and it says the same thing, so I checked my Beretta 9mm and it also says the same thing, so basically what these companies (and their lawyers) are doing is covering their a**. It has been awhile since I shot my Smith and Wesson but I am pretty sure those had a small bulge too. I also looked at the chamber of both guns (Glock and Smith and Wesson )and they both look exactly the same. If it was dangerous these companies would not make bulge buster tools, because they know they could be sued if a gun blew up in someones hands. So I will be starting my reloading soon. Or should I say, when I can find powder, primers, bullets in stock somewhere. No matter where I look everyone is out of stock. Thanks for the video, it's hard to find NEW videos on this subject.

You nailed it. Check a couple of the big retailers I have been able to get powder and primers as of late. Also when it comes to the bulge (not just a Glock thing). Use common sense. If it looks too bad toss it out. I occasionally find some real nasty ones from once fired range brass. Good luck and happy shooting.

Bm Md I just ran a bunch of 40 brass through my re sizing die and it took the bulge out, they drop right in my case gauge. Not sure if that means I’m good to go or not, but I’ll try it. The bulge buster makes sense, but I wonder if the brass is being over worked and there would still be a failure even though in chambers just fine? I’m new to all this too. So far I’ve only loaded rifle ammo and 45 acp. So far everything has worked flawless, but I haven’t fired hundreds of rounds yet. I think I’m on the right track.

The main think is the crease at the bottom of the case if the bulge is too much. The GRX die steps it down so you can then size it normally. I don’t have any concerns of over working a case with that method.

@@SquatchReloaded What’s your reasoning behind saying it’s not over working the brass. The WEB of the case is what’s being damaged in these cases. Now as reloaders we should remember that the WEB isn’t designed or manufactured to move much, otherwise hello to “Case Head Seperation.” Would be interesting to have like a spectrometer or similar equipment measure the different areas of those cases and test the work hardening and the strength of them, especially after 8-12 times of doing this. @richwhippersnapper3 жыл бұрын
That's true. My case bulges are caused by my Glock 20 factory barrel on new brass. I would consider an aftermarket barrel with better chamber support to prevent future bulges on new brass. Which one has the best chamber support?

The Glock 40 bulge or unsupported chamber was corrected by Glock by Gen 3. I've been reloading for nearly 25 years now and I've never used anything other than cheap Lee dies for 40/10mm. I haven't run across too much "glocked" cases in the last several years. Bulged 40 cases are not exclusive to Glock barrels either. But honestly 40 cases were plentiful and just throwing bulged cases out isn't worth a potential failure because the bulge weakens the material and sizing it doesn't return its integrity. Just my take on it anyway.

I have had issues with this bulge. I tried a couple different methods until I went with a roll sizer. Now I run all my brass through and it is fast. No issues with any of the brass now.

I have that REAL BAD. It’s probably 10 times worse and I am pulling my hair out. It’s a 10mm CMMG Banshee with maybe 500 rounds on it. It seems looking at the massive , sudden bulge that’s at the same exact spot , when it does it. But I am cracking cases and put the pistol up on the shelf today for good. I got to send it back, but does anyone have any idea what’s causing it on this Banshee? It’s a totally supported barell but seems like the case isn’t firing “on time”. It’s either premature firing or delayed firing??? Premature ejector ejecting the round? But the start of the bulge is always at the same exact spot, last .10 I am guessing. Any suggestions are weclome
@TheRotorhound4 жыл бұрын
If you run a case through a standard sizing die and then put it in your case gauge the normal way and it passes do you think that you are good to go reloading it? Second question, after removing bulge from a bulged case do you consider it safe to reload? I worry that the brass has been weakened at the bulge and just because it looks normal it may not be. Finally 9mm is not a straight walled case so I don’t think they have a die for removing bulge although I have never seen one in 9 mm. Other guns have relatively unsupported barrels too besides Glock. High pressure cartridges may be a reason for new brass, if obtainable. Nice video.
@SquatchReloaded4 жыл бұрын
A normal sizing die can not get down far enough to completely eliminate the bulge. Personally I wasn’t happy with the crease at the base it caused. I bought the bulge buster die to get it back into shape so I can reload and shoot them.
@TheRotorhound4 жыл бұрын
@@SquatchReloaded And you feel that is safe, by your experience? Eliminating the bulge makes it safe? Seriously, I wonder if shot in an unsupported barrel you might have a kaboom.

Nice video. I have a CMGG Banshee PCC. Have the same problem, but prolly torches a third of the brass, concerning the die “repair” kit you have there irons that brass back down, i get that. However the web of the case has already suffered massive movement,right there along that brittle case mouth/web. The web of the case isn’t supposed to move much at all, and if so, it’s been severely stressed (damaged). Now I am used to rifle loads and concerned about case head separation, not sure how common that happens in pistols…….? Just not as familiar with pistol reloading. I know if one of my 300 cartridges came out looking like that, I would can it in a microsecond because it be a ticking time bomb. Do these cases hold up for another dozen times or so and don’t experience a case head separation? Thanks ! Oh, and some of the cases I get out of that PCC looks like some freak example of “what the hell happened there.” Kinda of look, it’s bulged WAY out

Few questions, I use an ammo checker before and after a load a round, if it chambers do I need to worry about blowing a gun up? If there is a bulge and you fix the bulge will that over work the brass and cause a weak spot? Also I believe glocks are now fully supported chambers from gen3 on up? If I just bought an aftermarket barrel wouldn’t this solve the issue? Thanks for the video
@SquatchReloaded4 жыл бұрын
So this is a slippery slope and is very subjective. When you size a bulged case in severe situations you can actually crease the cartridge at the base. In that situation if the crease lines up perfectly in the unsupported area of the chamber there is a chance that the cartridge would fail. Usually when we talk about blowing up a gun we are discussing over pressures and the bulge would not necessarily cause that. I always sort out sever bulges. These are typically ones that have what is known as the “Glock smile” if you check out my Instagram or Facebook pages there is a picture of one of those. I do not mess with any of those. Is it risky probably not but I just drew a line in the sand there and go with what I have been successful with.

My question is what happens to the brass. The bulge is made by thinning out the brass. Now you cold work the brass into the case shape. But there is still stretched brass You did not shrink it. So now is there a bulge inside the case? I guess there is no problem unless you are unlucky and keep firing with this section in the 6 o'clock position. Never owned a GLock. My 10mm is an old Springfield Armory OMEGA and I just use my brass. Take care.
@freeandcriticalthinker44312 жыл бұрын
Yea Brian that’s what I was trying to ask above as well. That case is badly damaged…….. the web isn’t meant to be worked very much at all. So your right, that bulge is due to bras flow and that’s a weak spot that this repair die is simply “ironing” back down flush but the structure damage still remains. Coming from the rifle reloading world? Stuff like this bulged scare the shit out of me as we wouldn’t dream of using a rifle round that had its case web swelled to such a point like I am seeing or have seen on KZbin. Don’t understand why a fully suppprted barell isn’t just standard equipment on any pistol, like the BAs I am used to. I have run some really hot loads thru my CMMG and it ruins 30-35 of the brass, so I throw it In the trash…….
