The traditional sandwich of Mexico is the torta, and depending the region, there are many variants available. For example, in Guadalajara they are used to tortas ahogadas (it's like a pork sandwich soaked on a special sauce). In Mexico City we have a huge variety of tortas, with so many ingredients available, like Virginia ham, pork leg, white cheese, eggs, beef, chicken, sausages, even shrimps. And the unforgetable, but also shamelessly unforgiven, torta de tamal.

It's worth moving to Japan if only to be able to pronounce sandwich... Sandowichi. Awesome vid guys ;)
@drivesthecar32477 жыл бұрын
DaveTrippin right? So that's something I found interesting about the Japanese, they add a vowel to the end of English words. Unless of course the English word ends in a vowel, then they cut it off! lol
@Silentgrace117 жыл бұрын
It's because of how words work phonetically in Japan. The only "consonant" that would ever stand by itself in a phrase is "n", otherwise it is associated with a vowel. The entire kana alphabet is comprised of characters as such: "a i u e o", "ga gi gu ge go" "ma mi mu me mo" and so forth. So when you have a borrowed word from a country that doesn't share this trend, it's modified with the most suitable sound. With a break down of "sandwich" you have "sa" and "n" which can stay the same, but "d" becomes "do" because there's no standalone "d" in their "alphabet". Likewise there is no "w" period so it's omitted, leaving the "i", there's still that soft "t" sound in the "wich" portion which is maintained by a small "tsu" (which then mimics the sound of the following sound, in this case the "c" in "chi") and "ch" can't stand alone so it becomes "chi". Thus, sandoicchi, or サンドイッチ Sorry that turned a little long and rambly ^^" my point being is that there actually is a rhyme and a reason behind the adding and dropping of sounds when an English word is borrowed in Japanese, it's not just a quirk or nuance.

@YosuaNangin7 жыл бұрын
Wait wut. That's like selling your car for gas money.
@Silentgrace117 жыл бұрын
The cutting off of crusts for kids here is mostly because of kids being picky about textures :) the crust has a different mouthfeel than the inside, so not many kids like it. In turn, you end up with a lot of adults not particularly fond of it either. Meanwhile, my grandma would get me to eat the crust on bread because she said that's why her hair was so curly (I didn't realize that she permed it until I was 10 xD) so to this day im pretty fond of bread crust most of the time.
@flancognac92187 жыл бұрын
I actually agree with you. When I was younger at lunch people would fight over the end of the baguette because it had the most crust (I live in france). Maybe Simon and martina dont like the crust because they mostly had supermarket bread or something like that growing up, but I feel like the crust is an essential part of the bread, except for supermarket bread. :)

I'm guessing he was juggling batons?
@lphk927 жыл бұрын
He was actually doing a lot of different circus arts! Here's a list of all the stuff he did: The first thing he is doing when he is balancing the ball on his head is called contact juggling. There are lots of different ways that people do it, but it basically involves moving a ball around your body while always maintaining contact with it. Here's a really good routine from a guy in Yoyogi Park: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaXdpaWZfNB2eNk The second thing he was doing was indeed juggling batons :-) The next thing he did was some bounce juggling, which is like regular juggling, but instead of throwing the balls in the air you bounce them off of the ground instead. Doesn't sound much different, but it's stupid hard (at least I haven't gotten in down yet) The other thing that I saw him was diabolo (also called chinese yo-yo). It's kind of hard to describe in words, but here's a video of some awesome Japanese diabolo artists: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHjadJqrqcmSqMk

Hi S&M, if you ever return to Sweden, or rather, Gothenburg, Sweden, you have to, absolutely, have to try out the Räkmacka (Shrimp sandwhich). It is an open sandwhich, either on rye bread or a round white bread, piled with shrimps, over a leaf of lettuce, with a boiled egg on the side, some mayo, vegetables and garnished with dill... trust me, my city has the best seafood in Sweden (together with the rest of the west coast), don't even bother eating seafood in Stockholm, we get ours fresh, they have to wait a few hours.

Since you had been in Korea for long time and I also saw either of you say "Donkatsu" in some of your old videos, I guess "Donkatsu" might be a Korean thing?
@eatyourkimchi7 жыл бұрын
Ah. Yeah. We still confuse our Korean with Japanese, especially with food...
@purittamaneki72217 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is just a little tiny difference..t or d.. Why do Korean people call it Donkatsu? (though I don't know whether they really call it so or not..lol Sorry korean people if I am wrong.) I know it would be so confusing for people who have been to both countries like you. if I were you, I would want to say "who cares?" In the first place, many Japanese people including me can't pronounce Korean or English words properly. but your pronunciation of Japanese words seem to have been all fine, no problem so far. Oh, I don't want to be stupid like this any more lol Never mind the language stuff and please enjoy your life as much as possible and show us some of them sometimes like in these videos.
@ch00mb00m7 жыл бұрын
purit tamaneki I’m not Korean, but I’ll try my best to explain it: So ‘Tonkatsu’ in Korean is written as ‘돈까스’ (donkasseu). The first letter ㄷ has a d/t pronunciation so it’s a mixture of the ‘d’ and ‘t’ sounds, but often there’s slightly more emphasis on the ‘d’ sounds. That’s why you may hear Tonkatsu in Korean with a ‘d’ sound at the beginning rather than the ‘t’ sound in Japanese. (To all Koreans and those knowledgeable of the language, feel free to correct me on this because this is my very very basic understanding)
@purittamaneki72217 жыл бұрын
Jesseanne Thank you for your explanation. That's interesting! It makes me wonder how Korean people actually distinguish between d and t sounds. I'm not very familiar with Korean language so it was a great learning opportunity.
@ch00mb00m7 жыл бұрын
purit tamaneki they have their own ‘t’ sounds, but from my understanding it comes in different forms (these are the ones from the top of my head): - there’s ‘t’ as an alphabet (ㅌ). - there’s the ‘t’ sound that acts kind of like how we have ‘slient letters’ in English like ‘might’. An example I’d use is 못해 which roughly translates to ‘can’t do’. In the Korean alphabet, they have the letters ‘m’, ‘o’, ‘s’ (못), then ‘h’ and ‘ae’ (해). But together, it’s pronounced ‘motae’. Again I could be wrong at some points but this is how I understand it haha

Simon and Martina videos have been my escape from the very dark and dreadful world of thesis writing. I don't know what was I thinking that it took me so long to discover them and become a fan. Anyway I'm glad that fate brought us together hahaha! Thank you god :') Even though I can't eat 90% of the food that they showed (because of non-halal, sigh) but it just bring back good memories of my trip to Tokyo during the recent Sakura season and I become more motivated to plan my next trip and try their other food recommendations. Sorry if this comment is too sappy but that's what post grad life does to you...

We didn't talk to him, but he had a big crowd of people by the end with a few people filming :D
@Prinren7 жыл бұрын
He's just practicing his performance. Nothing wrong with it. I find it quite cool actually. Maybe he's a clown for a living. Or a elementary school/kindergarten teacher. OR he was just bored.
@eatyourkimchi7 жыл бұрын
When he started doing his performance, it was actually quite impressive, and lots of people gathered by to watch and film :D
@Prinren7 жыл бұрын
Simon and Martina you should've interviewed him. Maybe he works at a circus or performing arts school. Ayeee interesting people everywhere in Japan.
@azugirl1117 жыл бұрын
I don't think they were trying to say there was anything wrong with it it's just a strange thing to see randomly lol
@Prinren7 жыл бұрын
I wasn't trying to say they were. I was just trying to express that if i were there i would be totally ecstatic. I said "Nothing wrong with it" because i noticed their reactions, they looked a bit surprised and startled. I would be curious about who the guy is and what his profession is. I meant that people practicing their performance at a park isn't that rare of a thing, especially if it is for example, a park near a school or college.

that guy in the background is multi-talented..more videos of him please.
@Tsuki5707 жыл бұрын
The guy doing circus arts proved that music and wardrobe are everything. If he had some kick ass music in the background and a tight bright ass costume, it would've made his performance COMPLETELY different.

I was about to say that I felt kind of bad for the guy cause you were mocking him, but since Martina was delighted in the end, I feel better
@eatyourkimchi7 жыл бұрын
+elizabel We were uncomfortable with his clown music combined with his busking. It was like “happy talent” + “murder music” and I found it creepy, and not everyone likes clowns or mimes. I personally just don’t like the circus. 🤡 By the end we tried to sincerely watch him and we understood his show better so we liked it. It was like a staged act with sad/happy acting + busking. 😊

Glad you changed your tune on the strange busking man -- we weirdos must be supportive of one another in living our best lives.
