I loved this film so much that I bought it on blu-ray. Very original and J.K. Simmons as the voice of the edlritch cosmic horror was perfect casting! BTW, there's a pink/purple flower from The Color Out Of Space at the very beginning of the film, outside the restrooms... Your next film review should be Butt Boy! It's actually amazing!

Just watched it and it is unironically one of the best Lovecraftian horror films of all time. I don’t know how but that final scene captures the whole premise of Lovecraft in an amazing way. It’s both nihilistic and not in its degradation and yet also praise of life and humanity. The scope per say of the horror of the unknown.

When I think about the budget that is required to make a Lovecraft style film even possible. I think they did a pretty solid job. It does a good job at literally walling off the visuals and carrying the story in more of a narative driven story. Thats probably because of the budget but they were actually able to pull together a pretty solid movie. 7/10 from me.

Yeah, this feels like how a Lovecraft film should be. Don't show the monster, limit them as much as possible, and just have them be revealed through the small bits and pieces that you get. If you go into a Lovecraftian film and you see Cthulhu then you're kind-of missing the point, because no CG creature you create is going to be weirder than what we assume it is.

I watched this movie last night (high out of my mind). Its pretty fuckin good I think Hunter undersold it. When you watch it a second time after finding out hes a serial killer, it becomes a much darker totally different film. Like the entity is entirely in his head, his murderous drive speaking to him. There were a lot of parallels between him and the god actually. And the bathroom he was stuck in seemed like his mind

Kind of reminds me of another indie movie called The Endless (2017), brothers get an invitation to join a cult after said cult died out. Uncomfortably serious themes though not as crass, with a few spots of unintentional dark humor, special effects are limited but utilized well, the characters are believably grounded, besides being one of those lovecraftian tales that tells just enough to give you fridge horror.

I haven't seen this movie, but I have to wonder if Meat's reading the thing about the bathroom god "not wanting to" "do what he's supposed to do" by "destroying humanity" correctly. Because he's very much acting as an agent of destruction by compelling the protagonist to literally kill himself by extracting his own liver. But maybe this gets more explicitly addressed in the movie idk.
