Cut my teeth in a Astro with a screaming 318 jimmy. I miss these old girls so much. No auto shifts no ELD'S just man and machine

My first Astro was a 1971, in 1988. Probably had 10 million miles on her? She was like George Washington's Axe. Everything had been replaced twice. Mine had an AC unit right off of a 1958 Cadillac, if left on HIGH in Florida, you'ld come out from lunch, and step into Sub Zero temps. lol! In 1982 my boss put a V16, 2 stroke, with a 18 speed Rockwell for running Miami to Philly with Rum from the Islands. My Co Driver, and I could turn Miami in 22 hours, at $1,500 a piece. We each had our own set of shooting headphones, but was still a rough buzzing thru your whole body. We had mini air bags installed where the cab mounts were, and we thought we bought a new truck. lol!

The only things bad about the Astros were you didn’t want to be driving into the setting sun in the summer if you didn’t have A/C The door handle on the inside alongside the seat

I learned to drive big rigs in an Astro, and, coincidentally, the last big rig I drove was an Astro. . . .
