I like the Jekyll and Hyde element now. It feels like it gives Essex a bit more substance as we can readily say his extreme behaviour is the result of Apocalypse essentially doing his "four horsemen" trick on him since we know that process has an element of psychological conditioning thrown in. Hopefully Marvel did this because they've decided this is how to introduce mutants and specifically Nathaniel in the MCU.
@RossMalagarie

I think its because he's more of a behind the shadows enemy who rathers to study and manipulate over out in the open and fight and this makes him more dangerous because he is changing, controlling, and manipulating behind the scenes and if you don't see or know an enemy is there you can't fight him then you can't beat him. Super smart tactic.

Irene Adler is a fictional character in the Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A former opera singer and actress, she was featured in the short story "A Scandal in Bohemia", published in July 1891. Adler is one of the most notable female characters in the Sherlock Holmes series, despite appearing in only one story. While not technically a criminal and bearing no malice towards Holmes, she outsmarts him and evades his traps. Sherlock Holmes refers to her afterward respectfully as "the Woman."

The symbols on the cloning vats are from a deck of playing cards. What colors were in playing cards during the time period of Sherlock Holmes? Red & black. The one that visits Nathaniel Essex in the asylum is the diamond headed version or they all did. The reason I say that the diamond headed version is because that is the one that is Nathaniel Essex after I mind transfer. This would explain why that one is so much more eccentric than the others.

Yeah, and it’s also the name of a beloved character, from a Sherlock Holmes story. Holmes called her _The_ Woman, by the end, as she was a step ahead of him, and beat his traps, which many later writers used to make her a love interest, or the one woman Holmes may have loved, etc. With Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock movies, with Downey Jr., being the most recent, big budget, theatrical released, movies, also featuring Irene Adler, as Holmes love interest. It’s, interesting, that it was Rachel Mcadams, who played Dr. Strange’s love interest, playing Irene Adler, in those movies, to Cumberbatch’s Strange, who played Sherlock Holmes on the successful BBC series, who also had two episodes with Irene Adler. Thats a lot of degrees of Kevin Bacon.

I liked reading Sinister's origin as a kid, when he was 1st given his own mini-series, but I also kinda like this retcon. Hopefully Apocalypse is featured & reveals that Essex was a latent mutant, whose X-gene he activated. Essex's newfound powers should've allowed him to fake his own death, & he should play a major part in this Sinister centric arc (alongside his 4 clones).

well, ever since Disney acquired the X-Men movie rights from Fox. X-Men comic creatives have nothing but to give all out now. nothing to hold them back to tell a good story. I seem to remember the days when X-Men and Fantastic Four comics had been pushed in the backburner just because Fox still had the movie rights.
@SoupedUpCustoms

Makes me wonder if there's a retcon or a clash of some sort into Chris Claremont's initial idea for Mr. Sinister when he co-created it. Writer Chris Claremont conceived Sinister as a new villain for the X-Men. Having felt "tired of just going back to Magneto and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and the same old same old" Claremont recalled: Dave Cockrum and I went over ideas, and what we were coming towards was a mysterious young boy-apparently an 11-year-old-at the orphanage where Scott (Cyclops) was raised, who turned out to be the secret master of the place. In effect what we were setting up was a guy who was aging over a lifespan of roughly a thousand years. Even though he looked like an 11-year-old, he'd actually been alive since the mid-century at this point-he was actually about 50 [...] He had all the grown-up urges. He's growing up in his mind but his body isn't capable of handling it, which makes him quite cranky. And, of course, looking like an 11-year-old, who'd take him seriously in the criminal community? [...] So he built himself an agent in a sense, which was Mister Sinister, that was, in effect, the rationale behind Sinister's rather-for want of a better word-childish or kid-like appearance. The costume... the look... the face... it's what would scare a child. Even when he was designed, he wasn't what you'd expect in a guy like that.[6]

This feels like an MCU tweak. Tying Exeter into the history the Weapons Plus programme and making him an agent of Hydra automatically gives him a firm anchor within the familiar MCU lore than even casual audiences can remember. It also fleshes out his character substantially as Nathaniel was always something of an independent character exclusively in the X-Men comics but this establishes him as a freelance scientist who's prepared to work for anyone regardless of the ethical situation. Which does fit with Sinister's very opportunistic personality.
