The God Of The Woods by Liz Moore is literally everywhere right now. Is this book worth the hype?

It was definitely slow af. I'm with you it didn't pickup until 25 or 30 percent in. I ended up enjoying it but I don't read this genre often. Sounds like the slow pace isn't typical, so that's a relief.

I’ve been disappointed by the genre before but I’ve definitely read many that held my interest from the beginning - this wasn’t one of those. 👎🏻

Thank goodness, I thought I was alone. I started coming up with theories as to thinking that characters had maybe swapped places lives. Certain lines repeated by different people made me see connections and I would get so excited… and then the revelations were just so… underwhelming. At least the ending made sense (which is more than I can say of some of the other “thrillers” that are out now) and the writing and characters were well developed.

I wasn’t unhappy with the conclusion but it could’ve practically been a short story without the repetition!

I totally agree! I ended up rating it a 3.5 ⭐️ because I at least felt like the writing was good and all of the loose ends tied up nicely at the end, which is important to me. I also loved the female investigator and cared about her the most, and everybody else I was like okay they’re… also here. My only guess as to why people like this one so much is that they maybe don’t read this genre a ton so this it like a :O moment for them, and like, love that for them! But for me after reading a million of these I felt like this was just okay lol

Completely! The investigator was the only character who was developed - and she sticks out even though she wasn’t an amazing character! Guess the book had a lot of effective hype!

I'm totally on team Meh with this book and it's good to hear someone else who thinks so too! I found it incredibly tedious and especially the female characters were soooo passive, it made me crazy. I too started to like the female investigator, but then she was also so passive, it was maddening. I wish I could understand why people liked it so much!

Yes!! Such a mystery! Maybe people felt like it had a big twist? I think why people liked it is a significantly bigger mystery than the “mystery” in the book! Thanks for letting me know you agree - I appreciate it!

Thanks, I did see the length of it and was turned off by that. I'm glad I didn't pursue that.

whats the fastest speed youve ever listened to an audiobook at?

Great question! It really depends on the narrator! With most average speed narrators, 1.25x-1.5x feels fast but acceptable. When a narrator is slow, I have cranked it up to 3x. Usually any higher than that is gibberish. I think the only full books I've listened to at 3x are the Elliot Page memoir, Pageboy and Solito by Javier Zamora. I disliked Pageboy but needed to read it and Solito was great but the narration was painfully slow.
