Nikon user here. My issue was never with the Godox ttl system but lately was disappointed with the new X3 trigger in that it doesn’t have an instant on/off switch which was great to judge the ambient exposure when off and then give auto viewfinder exposure when on. This was solved in my case by setting a function button to switch on/off auto viewfinder brightness (d8) if I’m not mistaken on Nikon menu. So now I push the function button once for getting the ambient exposure and push once again to get auto viewfinder display. Solved!

Have my Z9 and Z8 set up the same to “ disconnect” the v1pro( or any other flash) when I want to take ambient photo. Works great. Looking forward to the V100, the V1 pro has performed well. I was happy with the V1 but the pro performs better. Hardly ever use the SB5000

Would love to know more about what you mean by this - as I run into the same issue with the x3 - that it is not an instant on / off :D
@stephenspiteri_zunkus14 күн бұрын
@Ronlbarra On my Z9 I went to the CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU, then to “f” CONTROLS, then to “f2” CUSTOM CONTROLS SHOOTING; I then chose an easy to reach Fn2 button and set it to VIEW MODE(photo Lv). That’s it! Now when my Godox trigger is on I can switch between auto brightness and ambient exposure simulation on my viewfinder/display with this function button without having to switch on and off the trigger.

Hello. In my case I use the enable/disable flash setting, so while I push the central joystick button I can see ambient light. If I release the button, then the viewfinder returns to the 'flash mode'. I find it more convenient for me. It is a pity that the X3 does not have a quick off button.

Just go the V100-s today and updated to the newest firmware to v1.02 plus updating the X3 to firmware v1.15 and Sony A1 to firmware v3.0 and... got a surprise I was not expecting. With V100-s connected to the Sony A1 body & Viltrox 135mm f/1.8 Lab (wanted to test on a non Sony lens over the GM lenses to see if it works well) the following two options under the "Flash" menu are now ENABLE: "Ext. Flash Firing Set.": - Flash Control Mode: Flash Off/TTL Flash Firing/Manual Flash Firing/Multi Flash Firing/Group Flash Firing - Memory recall: Off/MR1/MR2 - Zoom: Auto/20mm/24mm/28mm/35mm/50mm/105mm/135mm/200mm - WL: Off (Disabled) - HSS: On/Off - Flash Compensation: +/- 3EV "Ext. Flash Cust. Set.": - Flash Power Lv Step: 0.3EV/0.5EV - Receiver Set: Comm. Channel/Remote Release/Flash with Release options - Disp. Paired Devices (Disabled) - Tool Box: Backlight/Beep/Distance Disp. Unit/Power Save/WL Power Save/Version (showing incorrect ver 0.00) With V1-s or V1Pro-s with the newest firmware connected to the Sony A1 body & Viltrox 135mm f/1.8 Lab, both "Ext. Flash Firing Set" & "Ext. Flash Cust. Set." are gray out and disabled. A quick test between the V100-s and V1Pro-s in TTL and I am getting accurate WB and exposure when shooting white objects as well as objects with white background in AUTO ISO and fixed ISO. This really reminded me how I used to shoot with multiple Canon's 600EX-RT flashes with the Canon ST-E3-RT trigger on a Canon 5D Mark III where all the flash and the wireless remote features/options are showing up on the LCD screen for easy access and adjustment on the fly. Removing all the protective gaffer taps off and packing up both the V1-s & the 5 months new V1 Pro-s for sale tomorrow... will be taking sale product images of these two flashes with the V100-s tomorrow for further testing. Well done Godox & and as an event photographer that has been struggle with Godox flashes, thank you for making this video. I hope someone will make screen protector for the touch screen!

It's a shame you didn't have a Canon camera to test, too. With Canon R-series mirrorless, it's odd. Godox flashes (V860ii, V1, V1 Pro and AD200 Pro) work perfectly in TTL or HSS, but not both together. So indoor/studio shooting is fine with TTL, but outdoors using TTL + HSS tends to overexpose everything (fires at full power every shot). There are 2 exceptions, the RP and the R5 (presumably R5ii as well). There were special Godox firmware updates they and work perfectly, even with TTL + HSS together and even multiple lights. There were 2 special Godox firmware updates to work with the EOS R and it still doesn't work! Here's a tip for you. Get familiar with TCM. In the X3 settings you turn it on. Now this is what haopens: Use a grey card, if you have one... Take a shot with TTL filling the frame with your grey card or model's face, so the flash is metered off her. If you get a good exposure (you definitely will shooting a grey card) then simply switch to manual mode. Enjoy your shoot! TCM (TTL Convert to Manual) sets the flash to Manuel mode with exposure set at the power output it just used in TTL. In other words, at correct power output. Repeat steps 1 & 2 every time you move the lights or change location. Edit: I forgot to mention, Godox TTL + HSS works fine on Canon M-series cameras and DSLRs.
@kaskoPhoto15 күн бұрын
Thank you. I personally shoot in manual 90% of the time but these videos are for those looking for a flash that works in TTL. But these videos TCM feature is a great tip for those who need it. Much appreciate your input, information and tip. Please continue to share your thoughts.

@cooloox , I struggle with exact the same problem for my outdoor portraits. HSS combined with TTL on Canon Mirrorless just don't work. Indoor, the TTL works fine (as long as you don't need HSS)

Wow...I can never get my Godox flashes to play nice with my SL3 or SL2-S with the X3 Nano or X-Pro II. Whenever I shoot with the Godox flashes, it is as if I am doing a flash bracketing. @ I see. I had 5DM3 before but the mechanical shutter flash sync speed was 1/250s. looks like the mirrorless R-system has changed to elec first curtain at 1/250s and full mechanical to 1/200s. Sony's A1 also do the mechanical shutter with elec first curtain at 1/400s and 1/500s in APS-C mode while also capable of 1/200s with full electronic shutter and 1/250s in APS-C mode due to fast sensor readout. I hardly ever use the mechanical shutter anymore to avoid shutter shock vibration; however, using the electronic first curtain mechanical shutter will also eliminate 50% of the shuck. Draw back on electronic shutter is in some situation it will effect the depth of field and bokeh results but have not bother me at all specially using "Zero" mechanical shutter and shooting in complete silence are much greater "Bonus" for me.

I understand that the video might be misleading: Off-camera TTL with Sony is working better now, but this is NOT due to new V100 flash, as TTL calculations are done in trigger (and in camera) rather than in speedlight. You are mentioning that you are using X3-trigger with latest firmware 1.13. THIS is generating improved TTL, no matter which flash you are using!

Glad to see this comment. I shoot a Sony A7R3 with the XPro II trigger and AD100 off camera and TTL does not work. With my V1 on camera the TTL works well. Am hoping that putting an X3 trigger on the camera will improve off-camera TTL using the AD100. Am not looking forward to spending another $350 for another flash.

@@johnlevengood491 Yes, same here 🙂 Other workarounds might be: 1) use V1 as Master on-camera instead of separate trigger 2) Push "Focus Hold"-button (on lens) while using TTL off-camera

Version 1.13 was released 4 months ago and we don't know if he was already using v1.13 with his other Godox flashes. Need some clarification from John.

My local camera store told me that Godox received a legal order from Pro Foto on that product for violating their patent.

Yes, that was done around 10 years ago and it was just a scare tactic. Had to weight then and definitely has no weight now. And just to be clear, it was presented to the distributors not to the court in an effort to scare them from distributing the flash.

probably. Profoto is a victim of their own frugality by outsourcing production to PRC.

You should put the models social media in the links for all your videos. I assume the girls would appreciate it

Wasn’t making a comparison at all. I shoot with Profoto and love the system but would never tell a hobbyist or newcomer to buy into the system until they were making enough money to pay for it. Godox is perfectly fine for most who watch this channel.

why does everything need a touch screen these days? the way I see it, the power can go up or it can go down, just put up and down buttons on it and be done with it lol

I chalk it up to new things to sell. For me, the power increase and an actual TTL that works would have been good enough.
