The Godzilla Anime Trilogy Was A Mistake

Maybe we're just spoiled after watching Godzilla Minus One, but after watching the Godzilla anime movies for first time, we were undeniably DISAPPOINTED! The movies (Monster Planet, City on the Edge of Battle, Planet Eater), while not the worst, aren't very good at all, and should have been a lot better. All of these films were totally flawed, but the ending of the 3rd was the nail in the coffin for it. The main character destroys humanity's option to get technology back and he throws a fit about his emotions and dooms the remaining humans back to the stone age. These movies were a mistake.

Watching these when they came out, just took about 2 years of my life. Practically makes the 1998 movie look Oscar worthy. Also, bad choice to release these during the hype for King of the Monsters in between COTEOB & TPE

Idk I think Godzilla in these movies looks too big which I wouldn't mind but his legs look a bit too small for his huge body. And his dorsal plates look a bit too small. But I like the spikes on his chin implying some kind of beard since he's old.

@@Ok-fn6ue I personally don't like Godzilla Earths at all, he has no characterization, is completely flat, has no movement at all, his design is stale, his skin texture looks off, and his face doesn't look threatening at all when he's written to be a dangerous threat. No to mention, his movies are easily the worst Godzilla films ever.

A perfect example is Shrek 3 being officially canon to the Shrek franchise, but fans say that it's so bad that it shouldn't be canon to the other films. There have been some bad Godzilla films before, but this trilogy is so bad that it makes Godzilla's Revenge look like Godzilla Minus One.

My biggest gripe about this awful trilogy is godzilla himself. The concept of him being a metal plant is just silly, and he's WAY too overpowered even by godzilla standards. Especially that stupid shield of his. Its like an OC made by a 9 year old. "He has an unbreakable energy shield" "I use a nuke" "Cant, he has an unbreakable energy shield" "I use a super railgun" "Doesnt work, he has an unbreakable energy shield" And then he doesnt even have an atomic breath. Just another overpowered unbeatable beam he projects off his unbreakable energy shield. Then of course we get to the main character and how stupid he is. The ONLY 2 chances he had, handed to him on a golden fucking platter to kill godzilla, he passes them both up. First with mechagodzilla city where if they just crashed their mechs into godzilla's exposed back and self destructed, they would have killed him. Then again with ghidorah where all he had to do was NOTHING, he fucked it up. You'd think a guy as consumed with revenge as he was would want godzilla dead at any cost, but no. The writing of the plot and characters and power scaling of godzilla is just so damn awful.

Dude godzilla earth isn't even the most OP incarnation, so saying he's too OP by godzilla standards makes me wonder if you ever watched vs destoroyah or seen singular point or read borderline any godzilla comic. Godzilla in general is OP. Almost regardless of the incarnation.

What ticks me off about the Monster Planet trilogy is that I love the concepts and the setup, but it is all sadly wasted on a torpid story and animation that takes no advantage over any of it. Godzilla and anime should have been the easiest mashup in the world yet they bungled it not once, but twice (Singular Point being the second one). Heck, the director of Gamera Rebirth who was involved in this trilogy too, threw Toho under the bus explaining how they overrode many of the actual stuff he (and by extension we) wanted to see done. I long for a real Godzilla anime, heck by all means do interesting stuff with it, but do it all in 2-D and do it right!

How to fix the anime trilogy One make is 2D. Two develop the characters. Three actually, have character instead of cardboard cutouts. Four add more monsters like Anguirus ,Rodan or megalon. Five actually have mechagodzilla not a fucking city. Six get rid of king ghidorah and replace him with space Godzilla. Seven actual commit to the romantic sub plot. Eight less techno blabber more character focu scenes. Nine lean more into the religious aspect since those were the most interesting bits. Ten put cat girls in it.

Best way to describe these movies literally Nothing happens for the entire thing I like the final fight bewteen godzilla and the humans in the first two movies but its just sooooo boring and none if the characters are good either so I can't be engaged at all the third one is the worst because it doens't even have a cool scene I felt every good concept they had was comepletely wasted these are personally some of my least favorite godzilla movies because they do Two of the worst sins a medium can do: Be boring and Waste good potential and ideas

I enjoyed the first Movie, i skipped a lot of scenes in the second movie, i really like Vulture. So i didn't really mind tye first two movies, to be honest i enjoyed watching. The third, well i fell asleep. It felt like they were trying to make a Shin Godzilla style movie or the first American Godzilla movie. Shin Godzilla to me is a way better, i think the anime would be better being combined into one movie, 2 to 3 hours long. Don't cut sny scenes of Godzilla and cut the human part by a lot. Especially the third movie.
