Regarding the need for permits: I think people need to be mindful of the fact that it's a safety thing. You have a large crowd of people all in one place, blocking people's paths when it comes to walking and making a lot of noise (not even factoring in the effect that people who weren't part of the event stopping to watch, thus blocking the sidewalks even more). If, god forbid, something bad had happened, a lot of people cold have gotten hurt (and it wouldn't have even had to have been something *at* the event, just nearby while this event is blocking sidewalks). Nevermind the fact that if it's a space that's often used for events, what happens if this gathering had been planned at the same time as an event that *did* have a permit?

Also hundreds of people will leave a big mess that the city will have to clean up. Having a fee makes it so not just anyone can group up and create a mess then leave it. There's a pay-incentive to take it seriously, I guess.

If you're not from the US and aren't familiar with how things work in the US, please don't make things up about how things work and then say them as if you know what you're talking about. None of what you're saying is a thing. 1) If you are doing something an earning money because of it, including posting videos on social media, you are operating a business. This is especially the case if you are a social media personality/ influencer/ however you want to identify with such a large community that an event like this is even possible. 2) You don't need to "register as a business." If you don't have any employees, you can operate as a sole proprietor; the only thing the US government cares about is if you're doing something that earns you more than $400/ year, at which point you need to pay taxes on that income. If you want to register as a LLC, it can take as little as a few days to less than 2 weeks, not months. 3) Points 1 and 2 don't even matter because you don't need to be a business to organize an event or get permits. This fact was incredibly easy to google.

As someone who was THERE the gojos were so cunty and a lot of these negative comments looking in on it barely saw the energy and dedication the gojos were bringing in. It was FREEZING and they stood there in the cold to make us smile and cheer. I'm so happy to have been there and I hope this will looked on fondly going forward.

First I hate that the winner Cowboy Gojo was harrassed, this was all in good fun and this type of behavior can ruin a fanbase and just the possibility of these events to happen again. But man with the footage you have of the event I'd love for this to happen one more time even if it is for a con event/panel featuring the english VAs as judges to not deal with a fine. Especially since it can be treated like a cosplay contest or a skit based one where people can hopefully not repeat the harrasment for the winner. Along providing a livestream so anyone who didnt go to the con or was able to attend the panel, and or wasn't able to get in due to capacity can view it too!!

It doesn't help if that mindset comes from others who put people down for not matching exactly. I'm a Warhammer fan and sometimes my paint jobs aren't perfect since I have shaky hands. Ultimately, if I can get my figures as close to what I want, I don't care if they aren't exactly perfect. If they look cool, why worry? Also, what kind of person would I be if I made fun of someone for what I thought was a bad paint job on their own figures?

I think the saddest thing about this whole competition is that the ugly underbelly of cosplay has shown up clearly.... specially when people are fantasizing about what they see in their minds as their ideal fictional character. Cosplay is for everyone, it was a fun event in the end and I wish I could have gone to NY to either participate or spectate xD and im not a massive JJK fan but even I admit that this is pretty much Gojolike, the real Gojo would had definetly done something like this.

I'm not fond of the lookalike trend. Purely because people step away from the crafting or imagination put into closet cosplays, and add focus to actual looks. I feel it's going to add issues to things like hate towards cosplayers who don't have the right skin tone, or cosplayers who are disabled and so on. This alone shows how ridiculous people have become over what they think makes a Gojo lookalike. And just look at the way they treated the winner, just because the judges didn't pick the one they interpreted should be the winner.

this! i’m indigenous and physically disabled, i always wanted to cosplay and im an avid tailor(i even make my own powwow regalia and historical reconstruction) but i know how people react to poc or disabled folks cosplaying as anime characters and it scares me to death. i just wanna wear beadwork while cosplaying as aizawa from MHA without being afraid of getting publicly executed at a con for not being white or able bodied 😭
