I wonder if anyone back then ever thought, "how much would this be worth in 100 years?"
@NapoleonicStacking2 жыл бұрын
It's possible, most people before 1933 only knew gold and silver as money, and it's value was fixed on the coin so not alot of question about what it might be worth later.....if they only knew. Thanks so much for watching!

Thank you for an excellent video on history. Would you do another video on Napoleon related coinage ? I believe he struck gold Coins in Italy and Spain as well. That would be a cool collection encompassing all Napoleon related issues.

Fun fact, Finland was also part of the Latin Monetary Union and Finnish gold coins from the time before independence are still fairly popular.

The term ‘gold Napoleon’ is used generically to refer to 20 francs in France, not just those that bear the image of Napoleon I. They were such a popular savings piece that French bonds (Pinay bonds) in the 1950s were actually tied to their value, not just to generic gold bullion. Incidentally, those bonds was the reason for the rooster restrikes you mentioned at 7:15. You also mentioned Austria. They did later mint coins to match this coin (20 francs / 8 florins). But they never joined the LMU and their silver coinage doesn’t match.

Hey thanks for watching! The 20 francs roster is a very nice coin, and you can pick up the restrikes pretty inexpensively in BU condition.

You’ve got a lot of 🍯 on display there. Interesting information on the old Francs…I never knew Napoleon’s son was Emperor too. Good stuff 👌

Napoleon II was a disputed emperor for two weeks. He was not allowed to keep the throne, and he was only a child at the time. Napoleon III was not a direct descendant of Napoleon , but was his nephew. Napoleon III reigned longer than Napoleon believe it or not, but was deposed after losing the Franco-Prussian war.

I have an 1808-A 20 Franc gold Napoléon that shows him as Emperor of the French but still lists the name of the state as “République Française”. To round things out, I’m looking to buy one of the earlier Empereur+République 20 Franc Napoléons with the Roman numeral Republican calendar date (AN XI or whatever), and finally, a gold 20 Franc Napoléon of the Consular period. Then, I intend to conquer France and make her do my bidding.

Russia is weak today. Corrupt and disorganized. Who would have thought any country could seize and hold territory in Russia for weeks already.
