I don't know. This one seems pretty darn good, which keeps my eye on it, but what pushes it over the edge is Alexandre Roche's art. He's definitely my favorite artist in the board gaming realm and every game I've played that employs his handiwork has been very, very good.

I don't take issue with combat being in the game, but rather that the random point reward. It seems to go against everything euro. Do you think that it would be reasonable to just give 2 points for the first attack , 3 points for the second, etc. or perhaps just a fixed 3 points per attack and then either way just let the Chinese get +1 point for each attack?

mmanningb sounds reasonable, though you should probably ask the designer... he might have some good suggestions, and he's pretty active on BGG :)

I get that you guys don't like conflict in games, and I think it's impossible to do a civ building game without conflict. I think that in TGA the 4 attacks limits the usefulness of combat in the game. I agree it can be achieved, and actions are so valuable in this game that focusing a winning strategy on just attacks is tough. Besides, in a 4 player game, without combat the map gets too crowded. As someone else mentioned, the combat is very soft here. No die rolling, no comparing strengths, you just knock out a cub and don't even kill a guy. He just goes back home. To each his own, and, personally, I wouldn't put away such a fun game over that issue.

Are you planning on doing a runthrough with the expansion with an update of your thoughts? If they've changed at all.

I think Rich got rid of the game. Unless of course, he reacquired it along with the expansion in Essen.

I thought maybe since he thought so highly of the game itself that the expansion might warrant a try but I've yet to see it pop up on a backer survey.

I asked him on several occasions and he said that it's a great design but a bit.. you know, too agressive for their carebear style. This is probably my most anticipated expansion of any game atm, so I too would love a runthrough from Mr Ham.

8:15 suggesting to pick 2 value chits per player, and sum. that makes it less extreme.

Did you read Luigi's comment yesterday? He broke the lid with some info on the expansion. More buildings, wonders, leaders, future techs, and something new called history judgements. There will also be an addition for a fifth player, a culture track that provides some new gameplay elements that include: religion, governments, and other stuff. On and new warfare options. They want to have it ready for Essen. I am pumped !!!!

I hadn't played the game for a while and I just realized that the history judgements are already a part of the game (nothing new there, oops). I played the game again yesterday and I can't wait for the new goodies.

Bruno Valério that's what everyone said about deus, but the more we played, the more conlict we found. but as i said in the vid for this, TGA migth end up being okay with us... need more play time

Deus has some major flaws IMO and yes competition on the gameboard can be mean... much more than in TGA! Great walkthrough as always! :)

Maybe you can play with a variant where you attack instead of destroying the other players stuff you get to unlock a tech that the other player has unlocked already:)

***** , instead of attacking, just think of it as the people following a new leader because the new meeple that just moved in is there for them, whereas you just left to return to your capital.

Watching your video made me thinking about your "conflict problem" (is the same for me and my girlfriend) and i came up with an idea; why don't you try to play as the designer's suggest you, but without considering the symbol on the board to be useful for cards like Versailles if you are sharing that region, unless one of the players has more city than the other (thanks to Costruction, for example)? After all the rules said "... for every symbol you control", and if you have less city than the other player you can't control that symbol. This little change trasform the "attack" action in some sort of "sharing" action, quite similar to a worker placement mechanics. Do you think that change could be balanced? (sorry for my bad english, i'm Italian and i'm here only because your English is very clear and understandable, even for a foreign like me ^^)

lol 9 minutes of non-stop criticizing every aspect of the game, and at 9:24 it's a stellar production ;-) in short, nice ideas in the game but left the gameshop far too soon, too little playtested. I'll pass on this one.
