That pass at 2:22 was one of his best, to thread the needle between two defenders with a defender right in your face was special. The only problem is that he under throws a lot on the deep ball, so many extra yards and touchdowns were lost because the ball was under thrown. Very crisp and accurate on short and intermediate.

Look at where the DBs are in relation to the receivers. Its about balancing ball placement between moves your receiver can make and moves the DB can make. Goff has a natural feel and vision for that balancing act. That's why he was drafted so high, and why he had a stellar season with an offensive minded coach.

The flaw with Goff I see is his arm strength and his build. While he does have elite accuracy, I can see from this tape alone that when going deep, his receivers often have to slow down or turn around to catch the ball. Also, if it's not a long throw but not a short one, he seems to have to use every ounce of energy he has to get the ball where he wants it to go.

The biggest knock i have on goff from what ive seen is, his ball really takes a nose dive at 50 yards or his accuracy gets poor past 50 yard throws. His wr slow down on every throw ive seen over 50 yards.

In my opinion this guy is the best available QB. One thing that, to me, really decides how elite a QB will be at the next level is the ability to throw a rainbow arc on the ball. If you look at the NFL, all QB's with elite arm talent can throw this ball, and it's exhibited by the ability to throw the fade, especially on the goal line. Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Peyton, Rogers, even Russell Wilson a bit etc. all can do it and it makes their goal line offense more dynamic. Guys that seemingly can't (or at least can't well) are Alex Smith, Matt Ryan, RG3, Cam, Teddy. I'm not saying you can't win with the latter guys, but I'm saying they will always be relatively limited, and have to rely on line drive throws to get the sideline players involved in the goal line situations, or have a blown coverage to allow space for the lack of arc. I've never seen Alex Smith complete (not throw) a fade to a semi-covered player. I've seen Brees drop a ball on guys with defenders draped all over them. Watch Wentz, Lynch and Cook highlights and you will see the difference from this guy. The answer is in the rainbow...

His deep ball is the only thing needing work .. A1 accuracy in short/mid throws , Great pocket awareness , works through all his progressions , great footwork .. ill take fundamentals over potential.... wentz has potential but how many times do we see players with high ceilings and they never reach thst potential... ill take the guy whos ready now and has the mold of a classic pocket passer . 4700 yrds 43 tds with 500 pass attempts and only 13 picks is very impressive considering he statistically had the worst wr/Oline core in his conference

How will Goff handle NFL pressure/blitzes? Look at his Utah tape 5 interceptions. How well will he read NFL defenses? In this tape, he does a lot of 1st option passes, not much reading of the defenses. Just throws to 1st option. Was a little late on a few deep balls on this tape. I think he will develop into a nice QB. Super Bowl caliber? Who knows.. looks like a skinny Drew Bledsoe or Neil Lomax type.

That's the one thing I really like about him. His footwork is excellent in the pocket. Very reminiscent of Peyton. Overall, I like Wentz better for the Rams but if they go Goff, it could still work out. It also depends what kind of offense they're running.

Either way the rams go in the draft there going to get a solid, winning QB. I honestly think the rams should go with home town kid. Goff will bring alot of support with him over to the rams. Let's not forget twice before NFL franchises tried there hand at the LA market and failed. It's not a pro football town. I think the best decision from a PR prospective is Goff.

+Ricky Hanks Well when you throw to a wide open receiver, it's best to just make sure the ball gets to them rather than over throwing them. With that said, passing isn't necessarily about throwing it perfectly into their chest or into their open arms. It's about throwing a safe pass - where the defender can't get it - but your receiver has a prime opportunity to catch it still. Hence the whole 'if you can touch it, you can catch it' saying.

I think he is a second rounder in my opinion, great poise in the pocket, throws in tight coverage with great light touch on the ball. But in these highlights shows me if he plays in the NFL with faster and tighter coverage Defensive backs. That a lot of his balls look like they could be picked off in the NFL level. His play and throwing reminds me of a poor man version of teddy bridgewater. Geoff needs a lot of work yet. But that is just my analyst of watching his play based on this highlight video package.

I think Wentz has a better arm and more athleticism. Every pass Goff throws looks like a hailmary, regardless if it's 20 yards or 60. Wentz can zip it into tight windows. As a Browns fan, I like Wentz at #2 because he plays in a pro style offense with under center being a major part. Goff is all shotgun, which could work best in San Diego or in At&t Dome where Jerry would love to see him throw 63 times a game.

His arm strength, or lack thereof, is evident in all of his receivers having to wait on the ball. He's having to put too much air under it to get it down field ultimately giving the defender a chance to recover on a blown coverage. Luckily for him they didn't at the college level, but in the NFL, you can chalk an underthrown ball up as an interception.
