We played this march many times when I was attending William M. Raines Senior High School in Jacksonville, Florida and also while attending Bethune- Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. Mr. Samuel C. Berry was my band director at Bethune-Cookman College, and we played this march a lot. We were known as the Marching Men of Cookman. He was a graduate of Florida A & M University. I was trumpet section leader in Junior High School, Senior High School, and also at Bethune-Cookman College now known as Bethune-Cookman University. I also played this march when I was in high school when Dr. Julian White was my band director. Dr. White later went on to become band director at Florida A & M University. This march brings back fond memories of when I was growing up participating in the band. We played this march so much. Hearing this march sort-of brings tears to my eyes. Growing up in the band has put the love of all sorts of music into my heart.

Dr. Sims - I just saw your comment. When were you at Raines? We played this at Lee HS in 1980 with Homer St. Clair directing. It was his first year after graduating from FAMU

This is, melodically speaking, one of the finest 6/8 marches written. You can pull a lot of music out of this one.

Very reminiscent of Sousa in this regard, simultaneous contrapuntal {?} melodies.

A rousing, sprited, dynamic march by JJ Richards. The trio/final strain seems to have more than a passing resemblance to "The Chicago Tribune", am I the only one to think that?
