Awesome! I just read "An Army at Dawn" by Rick Atkinson, about the WWII Allied invasion of North Africa. In the Epilogue, he describes the victory parade that took place in Tunis after the Axis forces surrendered. This song was referenced as part of the procession. I close my eyes, and can imagine the Scots and their pipers, Indian troops from Montgomery's Eight Army, French forces, and the newly blooded American troops of the 34th from their home state of Iowa, marching by. Now only a vision of those who served. Atkinson, a Pulitzer Prize winning historian is the ultimate wordsmith. I wish my high school history teachings had been this rich.

Features United States military Model 1892 field trumpets (valveless instruments usually improperly called "bugles") in G tuned down to the key of F by extending their tuning slides. The sonority is very different from b-flat trumpets. A lost musical tradition!

Never heard of this march but sure sounds familiar. Written in 1916? Listen to the trio. It is identical to University of Pennsylvania March written in 1900 by the much more well known Roland F. Seitz. Go listen, it's on KZbin a number places. Hey Grossmont, your fight song is Seitz, not this guy. Sorry.

Beg to differ Hugh, went to Grossmont back, well never mind when, but I played that trio so many times, like every time we scored a touch down home and away games with the Pep Band, and yea... We learned it right from the "Brockenshire" music.... and they are still playing it today.
