Despite the bittersweet ending, if there were a moment that happened after the episode, I'm sure Optimus would tell a mourning Beachcomber that they'll do wat they can to restore the nearly destroyed forest. Plant new trees, refurbish the land and watever else. For the Electrum, it's hard to say if any more would even come back in a new lagoon, unless it's from a source outside of Earth. Either way, if this all were to happen, the forest restored and the animals returning, it's likely Optimus would make sure this area of paradise would remain hidden from everyone for the animals to live in peace, and to sugarcoat it more, because why not, a new source of Electrum would start to develop where the original, and now bigger, lagoon was.

The only other one is the death of Optimus after he pulled himself out of Quintessons' control, made Rodimus a Prime again, and died by crashing his ship into the space fortress of Quitessons, with his body already possibly in the worst shape it can be. And both episodes sadden when I review them. For the first one, we all know life do not come back on Earth, and how difficult and time-consuming it is to restore nature's beauty and vitality. For the second, now I know Quintesson can literally predict almost all transformers' behavior, yet Optimus Prime becomes the one they expect the least. So, Optimus is truly the living proof of how Transformers become free from their creators.

Regardless of ones political persuasion: this is genuinely one of the most thought provoking and well thought out episodes. It was a perfect allegory of the Cold War at its height; illustrating that even the good guys commit sins and leave scars. I was about 8 or 9 when this originally aired and it summed up the end days of the cold war so beautifully. Funny how after all these years how Transformers and GI Joe are still relevant. It goes to show how good story telling, characterization and looking at an issue from a universal point of view, as opposed to an ideological one, is timeless. The morally and creatively bankrupt scum in Hollywood these days could learn a thing or two from this. Hollywood thinks changing gender or skin color of an existing character in a reboot is creative. It is not. These cartoons were brilliant in focusing on personality and inner conflict, as this episode beautifully demonstrated.

I know everyone is taking away the "price of war" message, but I honestly feel like there's a deeper meaning that really requires you to put yourself in Beachcomber's place. He was the one who wanted to protect the glen, but he failed. In that regard, I feel that Beachcomber blamed himself more than he did anyone else. He was probably speculating what he could have done differently to have better protected the glen. Now, let's be honest; there was nothing Beachcomber could have done to prevent Thrust from discovering the lagoon; it just plain happened too fast for him to react. Still, things might have gone differently had he not tried to keep it a secret from his fellow Autobots. On the one hand, he did what he thought was right at the time, worrying that the Autobots would want to use the Electrum for the war effort. On the other hand, this shows that he didn't have good faith in his friends and comrades. In the end, he directed them to the lagoon anyway; knowing that they'd all be destroyed without the Electrum. Ultimately, I feel it was a mistake for Beachcomber to try to protect the glen by himself. Protecting the environment simply isn't something that one person can do alone; it takes multiple people, and I mean, come on! Optimus is understanding; he would have heard him out. It wouldn't have guaranteed the survival of the glen, but it might have given it a chance. The Autobots might have been able to get there before the Decepticons had a chance to coat themselves in the Electrum and make a stand to protect the place. Don't get me wrong; Beachcomber obviously felt that it wasn't fair that the glen suffered because of their conflict, and frankly he's right. Still, I can't help but feel he felt some personal guilt for being unable to keep the place safe.

I'm sure it's not only Beachcomber who felt sad, the others may too, just because they didn't show it directly doesn't mean they don't care, they are glad that further damage could be avoided though the price is heavy. besides the Autobots are those family who willing to lend their shoulder and ear, by that alone is enough to tell an extra story if Beachcomber want to do save the forest, he can call upon the Autobots to help him
@videogollumer11 ай бұрын
Honestly, it's under that same virtue that I believe Beachcomber was feeling guilt for being unable to protect the glen. His words weren't "We won... but at what cost?" like everyone is interpreting; he simply said "We won...". I believe he was trying to comfort himself with those words while pondering what he could have done differently to better prevent the glen being harmed. Idk, if he thought about this or not; but what you said about the Autobots is true, particularly of Optimus Prime. People hear act like the Autobots didn't care, but the only reason they seem that way is because Beachcomber didn't speak up. By keeping the glen secret from his fellow Autobots; he showed that he didn't trust that they would care about the glen as much as he did, not even kindhearted Optimus. Beachcomber's heart was in the right place. Even if their first reaction to the knowledge that there's a resource they could use was "Let's go get it!", Beachcomber could have followed up with his concerns for the wildlife; Optimus would have no doubt been moved to agreed. Beachcomber kept the glen a secret because of his pacifist nature. He wanted to protect it, believing his comrades would use the Electrum without regard to the glen; but protecting the environment just plain isn't something one person alone can do. Most people here are taking away only the "tragedy of war" message. While it's true that a side CAN lose sight of what they're trying to protect and end up destroying it; but if they don't stand up to fight to protect it at all, it WILL be destroyed. This is showcased by how the Decepticons got there before most of the Autobots, because Beachcomber said nothing until it was too late for the glen.

At least, in the much later movie (aired post-season 2), the Decepticons are, finally, shown to be not as bad as they were initially thought to be (when Unicron transforms to terrifying giant robot mode, which even terrifies Galvatron, especially after Unicron says about ‘Cybertron’s dismemberment’). I’d have loved seeing Galvatron being the one who rescued Spike (who was now an adult), and Bumblebee and Jazz & Cliffjumper, from getting dropped into Unicron’s acid vat, by transforming to laser cannon mode and blasting the acid vat cover (especially when Hot Rod and Galvatron were going to be allies against Unicron). This could have (I mean in a good way) led Galvatron to feel upset about all the things he did (as his old self - Megatron) to the Autobots, like the ending to this episode (and other season 2, pre-movie, episodes, like ‘Kremzeek’).

The only actor of the Filmation MOTU voice cast to work on Transformers (shame none of the voice cast, from Arthur Rankin & Jules Bass’ show ThunderCats, worked on Transformers, when I like associating Teela and Cheetara, who are even now my *only* favourite He-Man and ThunderCats characters, with the Sunbow G1 Transformers cartoon, especially with the 1986 animated Transformers movie).

Loved how the lagoon was big enough to fit omega supreme, but when it was destroyed, it was barely the size of a swimming pool.

Anybody else wondering how if the electrum made them invulnerable to being blasted, did they manage to destroy the pool by blasting it?

@@videogollumer Indeed, TFWiki even states that Electrum is a real world alloy made of gold and silver, besides the Transformers are living metal, it wouldn't last long on them if they wore it. It always confounds me as to how Electrum was treated as a liquid metal rather than a solid metal, I'm not joking, who in their right mind would treat Electrum as such? But still, the episode has kept up with how Beachcomber's hand had stayed pale gold until the end, it's a neat little detail that stayed consistent throughout the episode. Still Transformers was one of many 80s cartoons that had episodes with life lessons, TUGS was one of these shows in the UK for example, it's fifth episode had two versions as it is appropriately titled "Munitions", but both were of common sense and the dangers of fire, as well as instance of character death that happened in the original version whereas it didn't happen with a certain character in the broadcast version, however, I still had a theory about both versions of the episode, in which a ship full of explosive ammunition had people still onboard, even if they weren't seen, their deaths would still happen. I think fans of the TUGS fandom/community would get what I'm talking about, still, this episode is about the values of the environment and the horrors of war that would leave you with PTSD, which is common with war veterans, traumatic experiences that would leave you scarred for the rest of your life. I remember last month on the day of Thanksgiving, a program about the people who served in the military, and it was on television, the whole thing was about the history and what they experienced, after all the cartoon and the comics were based on the cold war, after all.

Technically speaking when the electrum on the Decepticons wore off, Thrust should've been the first to lose it since he was the first character to get covered in it (not counting Beachcomber because only his hand got covered).

If you try to make some sense out of the 1986 movie, it's all because of this episode. Even Shrapnel&Kickback mentioned the Electrum and it's an artificial Electrum active version of it being used on Autobot City as well both the Decepticons&Autobots. It's likely that Perceptor, WheelJack&Ratchet developed this artificial Electrum armor coating and then after infiltrating the Ark, SoundWave&ShockWave was able to copy the technology and develop a counter weapon against it. Like the original Electrum it eventually loses its charge and acts more like an ablative layer that eventually evaporates each time it's hit by an energy weapon. The artificial Electrum armor coating developed by the Autobots is tied to their main power network but the Decepticons' counter modified their weapons that it's overpowered to pierce the bots' armor and disrupt the power network that provides the charge for the Electrum armor. So when Megatron shot the Autobots inside shuttle going to Earth, each shot is armor piercing and burned the bots' power network making it look like they got burned from the inside. The same goes when Megatron attacked Autobot city and killing those G1 S01/S02 bots. When the Autobots inside the city shot back at the Decepticons, it lacked the armor piercing capability to permanently damage the cons. Also with the exception of Galvatron, the other Decepticons like Cyclonus&Scourge lacked the same firepower of the original Decepticons as Unicron reformatted them but didn't include the same weapons when they shot at the Autobots. As for the dead autobots, it's likely that their spark chambers got damaged and needs an extensive repair that Teletran1's repair facility can't accomplish&required the expertise of WheelJack, Ratchet, Perceptor to properly repair each dead bot like Optimus too. Unfortunately both WheelJack&Ratchet's are out so it will be difficult for Perceptor to repair the damaged bots like IronHide, Prowl, etc. So when Optimus sent IronHide to Earth to get more Energon, it's likely needed to give their weapons the same modifications that the Decepticons had done to their own weapons to counter the artificial active Electrum armor that everyone seems to have started using. As for why no one uses it in Season3 anymore, the Electrum is still on the armor of both sides but it's only works as a passive ablative/refractive coating and not actively charged Electrum armor as it causes cascade feedback into the bots power grid so it's best not to use it that way anymore.
