She was a bargain indeed. The featured Harrier Pilot from the embarked Naval Air Squadron, Simon Hargreaves, a veteran of the Falklands war, went on as a test pilot to perform the first vertical take off manoeuvres in the Lockheed-Martin prototype JSF. As of 2013 as a Royal Navy Reservist he is still flying fast jets (BAE Hawks) to support the Royal Navy in anti-air defence training exercises. BZ ! !

32 years after it’s making, this assessment of RN capabilities is frighteningly acerbic and relevant. I would love to see a similarly forensic assessment of RN capability in 2024. I fear it would be a repeat of what we have seen in this production, that said we need to adjust our aspirations to our relevance in the world.

The lady knew how to get to the meat of the matter. Enjoyed seeing this again. What would she think of the mess the RN is in now?

It's only taken 30 years to get sorted and get the correct aircraft.

Another excellent work from the much-talented Ms Goldring. She should have been promoted to senior BBC position. I suspect she had/has too much intelligence for the old male elephants in charge.

Now finally, the Royal Navy has reacquired aircraft worth carrying.
