I HATED my 60° for so long and dreaded what was to come most times I pulled it out to attempt a shot with it. I decided to change all that and see if it were possible for us to become friends. Spending some alone time together has proven to really been beneficial to both of our existence. Hitting a few hundred balls with it and letting it know I was sorry for neglecting it for so long has led to us becoming fairly decent friends now. It even blessed me with one of the more memorable moments in my few decades of Golfing. Three consecutive balls hit about the exact same distance of 90yards and within a 10 feet of spread. I haven't been able to come close to replicating that but having done it that one time gives me a peek into what I'm capable of. Now I can only hope my 60 will be able to convince the rest of my clubs that if they simply cooperate then they won't be cursed at, thrown, and threatened to be turned in for scrap metal so often.

@@ForteanResearcher Thanks Sir. My dark thoughts are generally balanced out by my sometimes light humor. I'll forever be working on eliminating those negative thoughts but sometimes they just shoot to the surface too quickly. Golf has a way of effortlessly conjuring them up at times. 😄
@glenj.taylor2938
@glenj.taylor2938 Жыл бұрын
@@ForteanResearcher I hear ya, I'm old school myself. I found the key to the 60 was to embrace the bounce on the sole of the club as it's intentionally engineered to be there. Since the shaft of these higher lofted clubs tends to be shorter, I found that having a more circular swing arc, as opposed to a more decending (vertical) swing arc like the less lofted clubs, really helped guide the clubface into the proper path. I started with very short chips. So short you could do it inside your home or yard, kind of like a putting stroke. Then I graduated to progressively longer distances until I felt confident taking full swings while making solid contact. I still thin or chunk some shots but they are becoming more and more rare. Even the pros do it occasionally too, right?😁
@SpencyP92
@SpencyP92 Жыл бұрын
Im sure your problem is that you don't commit to it. Most people who can't use lob wedges it's because they are afraid of taking that much of a swing that close to the green. Trust the loft and keep the speed up.
@glenj.taylor2938
@glenj.taylor2938 Жыл бұрын
@@SpencyP92 As I had stated, I have no qualms about pulling out my 60° anymore. I still feel like I'm in the early stages of bringing some form of a swing together but like the other few million Hackers out there, those rare, seemingly perfect, shots keep enticing me to keep trying. As Moe Norman said, "Golf is Happiness." In all seriousness, it's just like the many other endeavors in life that bring those feelings of euphoria. It's a Drug of sorts.

I have a 60, 54, and a 50 (getting a new 58 soon) but I honestly only really use the 54. I can add loft and get it to stop pretty quickly or deloft it and play a nice bump and run, my 60 is either a super spinny shot that rolls off the green or a 120 yard bullet over it, no in between whatsoever.

Thoroughly agree with a Lob Wedge. I just put one in the bag a week ago and I fine tuned it to a tip trimmed to length variant in an X-Flex shaft. My dispersion was so minimal to the point I was leaving shots less than a yard from the pin. Looks like 2023 has big things awaiting like breaking 75 on my end lol And in 18 holes as well (couldn't break 80 for a full round this year but it's looking good).

I’m a 20 handicapper and if you’re trying to lower your scores, lob wedges are great where Shield said but 52 & 54 are the chipping clubs that brought me into the 90s consistently. Bump and run play with 52° single handedly shaved 10 strokes off my card. If you’ve got more than 20 feet to the pin from the fringe or second cut, 52° will be so much more reliable in getting close.

I used to play a 60 degree wedge and dont mind this opinion, however once you get to a certain skill level, and have the shots you need with wedges (flops,flighted shots, runners, spinners, etc) then you really only “need” a 56 degree. I have found that i hit my 56 degree aprox 105 yards, but when i start hitting 50,60,70 yard shots for example, i find it is way easier to control and is a much lower flight, with enough spin to do what i need it to do on the green. And if you open up the face with a 56, you can still hit your flop shot (that doesn’t need used as much as most high handicap players think.) I like the take though

Then he has a 56 with a high bounce for bunkers and full swings. He is brilliant with them. He is better than most people who use 60s with his 56.

It’s funny a 60 Lob Wedge completely transformed my game as a 14 Handicap. For approach shots within 100 years I don’t even think about using my 56 anymore. 90% of PGA Tour Players who use only three Wedges use a LW and only 30% use a SW. LW are so much better out o the sand as well. Honestly think using a LW dropped 2 Strokes to my Handicap. So underrated I honestly only use my SW for Greenside Chipping.

Perfect for 175-200 yard shots, can use it when your struggling of the tee with the big clubs and is very useful for punch shots if you have tree trouble or just need to get back in play.

Two clubs plus a putter to finish 18? I'm doing my 7 & 58
@markstaud

Once I got a 58 I never used a SW again. Just PW, GW and LW. LW does everything SW does better (approach shots, flips shots, bunker) except chip which I use my GW for.

Better question: if you had to play golf for one year with only one club. What do you think you’d have the best handicap with? I’d say pitching wedge for me

Can somebody explain why I need a 60 lob when there is S iron ? They have similar loft no

LW are better for height, spin, sand, flops. When most Pros ditch a wedge they always ditch a SW, because the only thing a LW can’t do is chip, but GW are great for chipping.

Learn how to hit flop shots and short shots with a SW. Then put a lob wedge in your bag. I try not to use it too much. Kinda like getting a hammer for Christmas. Every shot looks like a nail.

Q: what is one thing every human needs to survive? Aside from obviously water? Rick: definitely an ac130 gunship, not something that youre going to use loads and loads, but theres certain situations where you’ve just gotta let it rip

@@Moishe555 I’m the opposite I haven’t used a Fairway Wood in a Decade and have a 4 Handicap. 3W at the most is only going 20 years further than my Hybrid. If I’m going for a Par 5 I just do a Driver off the Deck, Hahah. I’d always use Four wedges a sacrifice a Wood or Hybrid depending on what you can hit best.

It looks so good being 30 yards from the flag and lobbing a ball next to the pin. Just as if you walked up there and dropped it next to the hole.

I love my 60 degree. If I'm on the fringe of a green I'm more likely to use that than my putter. (13 hc)

A driver is one of the most specialized clubs today, and it is probably the least used one in every bag.

I'm inclined to disagree. it would be interesting to tally club use and find out. I know my putter is the most used. averaging at least three uses per hole. my driver is used on every hole longer than a par 3. but usually no more than once per hole. I think my 4 iron is probably my least used club. a quick look shows it is the cleanest in my bag. for the average golfer, I'd say either fairway woods or long irons would be the least used, because they would tend to favor one over the other.
