So you are the judge of what music is considered "honest"? What a huge ego you have! lol Seriously though..... that's a really lame assertion because it assumes you have heard all music that has existed before now and so you know everything that can be considered "regurgitated". Case and point., someone who never heard the band Death before my hear Gruesome and absolutely love them even though they are kindof a direct rip off (and awesome as f***).... each persons individual listening experiences determine what is "new" to them.

I’ve been waiting to see your review on this. I’m a huge A7X fan. I still prefer the older A7X and at first I thought this new song sucked but it’s grown on me to where it’s okay/kind of good. I guess I wanted to hear more riffs but that’s just cause I play guitar and they have always been very riff oriented. While I agree they are pushing the envelope and that can be a good thing I also hope they don’t do it so much as to where they become unrecognizable in their sound. I see a lot bands I love do this where they are trying to be overly hip and creative and they lose what made them great in the first place. Just my take on it. Thanks for the video! If you have a couple hours to kill, go listen to their podcast where they do a deep dive on this song. The high hat was all Brooks, though obviously on a separate track. its been 7 yrs since they came out with a new album they have been working on this new album that hits 6/2/23 for 4 yrs , i love artists that go out of the box an experiment with new genre of music , an avenge sevenfold has done just that in previous albums , they have re invented what it is meant to be metal , many times over. An i will say REV would be proud of where they have gone since his lovely soul has been ripped from us. This is expected of avenge sevenfold always testing the limits and going further then most bands do ... i cant wait until they release more teasers or it drops 6/2 , i already have mine on pre order ....... the fact that they went back to the old school style of making music where bands take forever to create also amazes me because most artist now especially come out with new albums back to back to back , i love it when artist take there time an make sure its exptremely special and i will say they surely have something special here

I wanted more “traditional” A7X as The Stage was hit or miss for me. But…this was pretty good in terms of “different”. Production is great. Song structuring kinda wonky, and it doesn’t pop off as much as you’d hope given the continuous build. Instead it meanders at a fever pitch the entire time. However more parts and layers keep coming so it stays interesting. Not sure I could take a WHOLE album of this but I’m eager to hear the rest.
@sVieira151

Its fairly simple structurally, I think. It's basically AAB (with B being the solo) and feels kinda like a hip-hop track in that it's essentially just two verses with instrumentation variation in the 3 or 4 sections to each verse. It's a pretty interesting approach.

@@mcuniboob I've heard worse songs on 7th trumpet amd the stage. If they tried pulling from an empty well of old ideas I don't think that would impress fans either. Here's a take of the song and to those who didn't like it: Having an idea about the theme may change your perspective about the song. It is mentioned in their video that they are inspired by the philosophy of Albert Camus. Read his view about existentialism and absurdism. "Absurdism - a philosophy based on the belief that the universe is irrational and meaningless and that the search for order brings the individual into conflict with the universe." Quotes from Albert Camus : - "The realization that life is absurd and cannot be and end, but only a beginning. This is a truth nearly all great minds have taken as their starting point. It is not this discovery that is interesting, but the consequences and rules of action drawn from it." - "There is but one truly serious philosophical problem, and that is suicide. Judging whether life is or is not worth living amounts to answering the fundamental question of philosophy. Then have a listen again to the song and pay attention to each element. The lyrics, the chords and notes, and the unusual writing pattern. Lyrics and Video - representation of this philosophy Music and Song Structure - A representation of the "...universe is irrational..." and us searching for order brings "conflict". It doesn't make sense. And that's the point, I guess. Truly artistic in my opinion.

This song sounds like a very natural progression from The Stage album. Shads' voice is different now too, which will probably throw the odd listener off a little. I love all A7X, but The Stage was a top 3 album for me. The whole album really nailed the idea of a 'concept album,' their style sounded great while authentically sounding like A7X (the guitars were as great as ever, and Brooks on the drums feels like a great homage to the Rev's sound while innovating in his own way). If The Stage explored the idea of creation, AI, the universe, the expanse, time etc. This song is about the subsequent existential crisis, the feeling of loneliness, and being nobody compared to said expanse, and the direction of technology. I saw Matt describe it as a 'panic attack' on Twitter and honestly, that fits very well, and transitions greatly off the back of The Stage. I really dig this direction. If you break down all the elements, all of them are still performing super well, and I really look forward to hearing the rest of the album. If I want to hear them sound like City of Evil, I'll listen to City of Evil. If I want to listen to them sound like Nightmare, I'll listen to Nightmare. And honestly? All their albums are still super diverse. The Stage song was a great midpoint between their new and old sounds, and God Damn straight sounds like a throwback song too. Even stuff on older albums almost foreshadows the direction they'd progress in too. I guess this was a really long-winded way of saying, this song is good. It's growing on me massively. I am now confident the album won't disappoint and they'll have a bit of something for everyone.
