The GOOD & BAD About the New Kia Soul 2020

I got the S model for my wife. It came packed with all the modern things like blind spot warning, lane assist, traction control, bluetooth, and emergency braking. I especially liked the emergency braking, because the day after we bought it, my wife was driving and playing with the entertainment center. I was telling her to learn it later and to just drive. Then i heard beep, beep ,beep,beep in rising tones and the car stopped before she rear ended the car ahead of us.Cost like 20 grand with a 2 thousand dollar trade in. It also has the 2.0 litre engine, up from 1.6 litre from the previous generation. Also, the thing looks like a dream to maintain. Everything is uncluttered and accesable. Rides solid, and corners on a dime. Really good brakes and easy to park. I especially reccomend this as a first car for college students. Just a solid, dependable vehicle that won't break the bank.

3 years ago, a deer missed me. But a concrete didn't. It tore the car apart but I walked away. It is the ONLY small vehicle with a 5 Star Safety Rating on the base model.

I purchased my Kia Soul LX in November 2019 I LOVE LOVE IT.!❤❤ Having back problems the Soul allows me the seat height to slide in the Soul with less back pain and there is plenty of leg room. The fold down back seats allow me to put larger objects in the back. Enjoy every ride the sound system is awesome and the get up and go is great also. I LOVE MY SOUL❤❤👍👍👍👊

Back problems was the reason I traded in a 2013 Reo for a 2016 Soul +. Just traded in the 2016 for a 2021 EX and it is amazing.

Absolutely spot on recommending the EX trim. Especially with the upgrade that includes larger wheels, LED headlights, tail lights, fog lights, etc. I actually traded in a 2020 Soul "S" model for a 2020 Soul EX with the upgraded headlights. The difference is dramatic.

The 2021 line up is slightly different. The EX doesn't come standard with the LED headlights. However, Going from a 2016 Soul + to a 2021 Soul EX is wonderful. Great improvements.

I completely disagree with you on your assessment of the halogen headlights on the 2020 Kia Soul X-Line. I have owned mine for 5 months and I have zero issues with the headlights. I’m actually quite impressed by their performance and I don’t see that well at night.

I am impressed by my LX with 6 spd manual. Fun and simple, solid and unique hatchback for the price. Really wished they offer manual with the GT though Edit: The Soul is a hatchback or can be called a small wagon, not intended to be an suv/cuv even though it's labled like that on the market. And I disagree with headlight assessments because mine is halogen and I test driven a GT with leds for a whole foggy day and night, and I can see a lot better with halogens while led is just blinding and it is especially bad in foggy or heavy rainfall conditions

I really want one with manual transmission and would consider the LX and just add nicer rims and LED bulbs. But I also really like the X-line styling, bigger infotainment, and active safety. It's rather unfortunate that stick shift can't be had in mid trims like Honda does.

all i can say is that they're affordable and if you're dropping someone from an 8 hour drive it would be fine since it have a 2.1 LT of gas instead of the original 1.5 LT of gas for a hatchback vehicle. Kia is pretty amazing despite there ''amazing way of creativity'' for an engine or oil but nothing too major.

Blind spot monitoring in the side mirrors is nice, also adaptive cruise control. I do not like the floating back pillar outside- I would get black paint to make it go away more.

No driver assist is a GREAT plus not a negative. I think this is a very slippery slope we are on with driver assist on vehicles. I DON"T think any of these are a plus at all. We DO NOT need to become dependent on driver assist components, What will happen when they fail...and they WILL? What will happen when the car ":drives" a family off a cliff or stops in the middle of a busy interstate? Elon Musk even stated that AI is our most dangerous product. This "do it for me' mentality needs to stop before it starts. I would buy this Soul JUST on the fact that it doesn't have these features.

I got a base model Soul with 6 spd manual because the manual transmission is the only driving assist feature I actually need or want. People who are dependent on these fancy electronic assists really should not be driving in the first place

The only one I like is when it shows that someone is in your blind-spot with a little light going on in the sideview mirror. Otherwise I completely agree about the slippery slope of the bloody Siri mentality: "Siri, preheat the oven to 375". Really? I can just turn the damn dial with less effort.

My wife bought a 2021 Kia Soul and where have oil consumption issues with the motor at 3000 the dealer change the oil at 4,000 it was a quart low now we just put 395 miles on it and it's a quart low again the more I read about this vehicle the more consumption problems it has with the engine oil so if you driving one of these cars you better be checking the oil in it

I'm hoping you do an update and review the 2021 line up. The line up has changed a bit from 2020 to 2021. The EX is now just below the Turbo for pricing and features. The driver seat in the EX is great, electric and with a lumbar support control. The heated front seats are also standard on the EX. When coasting down a slight decline my 2016 + would yo yo. The transmission has improved and no more yo yo. All around, the 2021 is a great improvement.

This is a 2021 Kia Soul EX and the dealer has changed the oil and the dealer had to add a quart of oil and I'm taking it tomorrow which is Monday to the dealer again it's a quart low again after 395 miles I just went through this with Ford Motor Company with their brand new Ford Focus a couple years ago with that stupid dual-clutch transmission be put in that car that nobody can fix when you have one of those it was brand new in the Dealer's telling you there's nothing more we can do for you in the cars only got five thousand miles on it what do you do shoot the dealer that's why when you look around you don't see many brand-new Ford focuses anymore in the making that car they got all Serta class action suits against it you'll see a lot of the old ones which was a bulletproof car we had two of those I had one for a work car that I drove all over the state and never had a problem with the car so they put something together with the getrag with a transmission so complicated it look like something that should be shot up into space and now we bought this Kia and having engine oil problems with it brand new car

That is a real bummer. It seems that maybe yours does have the bad piston rings which is the subject of the latest recall. Would love to find owners to let our channel know how this works out. We did a very favorable review of the Soul on our channel but they need to take care of the owners.

I am totally disappointed in my 2020 Kia Soul. Kia manufacturer downgraded this car, No leather seats, no side mirrors that are electric the panoramic sunroof is smaller. I don't even know why they bothered to even make sunroofs this is just a little hole in the roof. The manufacturer even downgraded the stereo system for my Bose to nobody system. My side speakers used to light up at night. The side panels are supposed to light up but you don't see them half the time. The only good thing I'm about this car is the turbo. . I was disappointed with the dealerships because they kept advertising alien green. The color was not available this year. I had to settle on that blue with the red accent. Which I hate, I feel, that the 2020 Kia Soul, which I paid $38,000 dollars is half the car the manufacturers made in 2014 at $29,000. I was in an accident in February of this year which totaled my car. The damage was not that bad but, the wiring harness was cut in half, so the airbags did not deploy. The Insurance company totaled it because of the wiring harness. I loved my 2014 Kia Soul she was an alien green and her name was Ms.Cricket. She will be greatly missed.

@@missali2u the car overall is a great car I love the way it handles but my 2014 had so much more leather seats Bose stereo panoramic sunroof the color I liked the side mirrors do not go in that's how I could tell my car was locked at night half the time now I don't even realize the car is not locked the side panels used to light up now they only light up if you're sitting in park that used to go to the music which I enjoy

@@aarondawesum what I mean about power of mirrors my side mirrors used to fold up after being locked now I can't even tell the car is locked at night, the panoramic view and this car is lousy it's just a hole and the roof of the car no power seat no excuse me no leather seats which are awful. They put a cheaper model AB stereo system and this car what's the 2014 had a Bose system. Plus the dealership ran circles around me when I was trying to price the car

Oh ok I understand I’m going this weekend to test one out it seem like a practical car for me especially since all the things that bothered you are a plus for me I never used the pano sun roof on my previous car and in this Texas heat I no longer like leather seats there’s a used 2020 with 5,000 miles for $20k I’m gonna see if I can get it cheaper I would be upset too if I paid nearly $40k for it but for a little more than 20k I think it’s a great car

Just saw on the news today about the Kia Sol and a spontaneous combustion problem. A new rented one burst into flames. One of the passengers was critically burned. He survived but with 80% burns of his body, he is facing a life of continuous medical attention. The Kias are being recalled. Please check your model.

The car stalls with that motor shut off is on. The motor stumbles when you turn the AC on and the motor dyes out. Low head lights not to good. The chrome door panel let's water roll down on carpet if the widow is cracked during rain and makes the carpet sink the next day.

That's a poor handling car a little windy at 70 and its all over the road and a 2021 ex like my wife just bought has defective piston rings it's in the shop Geting engine replaced at 4500 miles. The new cars all have problems junk

My biggest dislike is that they will not stand behind their warranty if you have a problem. You contact Kia and they don’t call you back worst car company I have ever dealt with when it comes to warranty

Lol. The CVT comes from Nissans transmission plant. Jatco, I think. They suck. There are already reports of them failing before the first 10k miles. Run do not walk from them.

I've heard some isolated reports of premature failure, but overall the majority that I've seen have been without issue. Most of the reviews I've read were showing surprise at how well their IVT's felt to drive seeing as previous CVT's sucked so badly.

All you have to do is pull out the dipstick at idle and see the blow by coming from the crankcase at 4500 miles this smoked like a old Ford 292 with 200,000 miles on it we bought a new Kia Forte years ago and that car ran over a hundred and seventy Thousand Miles and never had a problem with it

Vince, it may not be rhe prettiest car, but it has it's charm. If you see one on the road, you immediately know what it is. Nothing else looks like the Soul. The ones who tried died. It's still around because it has a certain mix of personality, features, and low cost. They are on the 3rd generation now and selling like hotcakes., so maybe you will get used to their looks. Lol that's what I'm trying to decide between right now, I have a 2016 Z71 Crew Cab with a 6 inch lift,Fuel Wheels wrapped in 35 inch Nitto Terra Graplers, needless to say my gas mileage isn't the best,and my company moved locations, and it takes me about 45 minutes to get to work in the morning but rather than listen to my wife and sell my truck I decided to either get one of these or the Toyota CHR for back and forth to work because my truck is paid for and not going anywhere lol. Still haven't made my mind up yet, I did test drive the CHR today and loved it but and still going to go test drive a Soul next weekend to see which one will best bet.
