Moscatel de Setúbal tends to be very marmalade (quince marmalade, that is is) and old-tangerine like; great casks for certain malts (even of the peated kind), I think

Hi Chris, Another very interesting show and line up. The Edition Spirits Tomatin sounded fantastic. Personally, I'm a bit of a sucker for a good port finished whisky and the Tomatin one sounded very intriguing to me. That said, I haven't tried a Tomatin for a good while and the only one I currently have in my stash is the older red label bottling of Tomatin NAS Cask Strength Edition ABV 57.5% NC NCF aged in bourbon & oloroso sherry casks. I also tend to agree with you about the new bottle and presentation of the Cu Bocan. However, as you've said before it's all about the juice in the bottle at the end of the day and that one too sounded like very good whisky. Looking forward to a Christmas Good Dram Show if you can squeeze one into your seasonal tight schedule. Cheers!! Phil.

That blasted cold has been doing the rounds alright. I got it three weeks ago and it's hanging around. I hear what you say about work too. I don't have paid staff and my team have been dropping like flies or going on long holidays. I've been working like a Trojan to plug the gaps. (Funny how all this industrial action and low pay doesn't apply to us. Hmm) Anyway, great to have you back because your show is really a part of my Sunday routine. New paragraph and on to the whisky. All these bottlings sound pretty tasty and I'd happily drink them BUT (at this point I apologise for sounding like a stuck record), let's talk about price. Whisky prices have gone up, sure, but that doesn't mean I'm going to spend more money for the same thing. Tomatin have foolishly edged themselves out of my comfort zone for the offer. The French bottlings are £10 more than I would even consider for a 12 year old whisky at 46%. We're at £15 more for the Portuguese - to even consider. The Cu Bocan is vaguely in the ballpark but that's just because of that predictable bulldozer peat/sherry combo. As for the packaging, I couldn't care less. It's okay for presents but other than that I just throw the box away. I hope you pass on consumer comment to these distilleries too. Terrific review as always and stay strong for the next couple of weeks. Nobody appreciates how hard retailers work. Cheers. WT

Hi WT. Thanks for the comments and I hear what you are saying about prices, at least Tomatin are not Diageo! As you say whisky prices across the board have increased considerably, there are still a few that are reasonably priced for their age but they won't hang around for long. And as for whiskies with more than a modicum of maturity and you are into the £100 plus price bracket.
