@@DFQreactsIf I remember correctly, they filmed everything once with everybody playing themselves for reference, plus Darcy had audio recordings of the cast to rehearse from. There's a "The Good Place: The Podcast" hosted by Marc Evan Jackson (Shawn). It started a year or two after the series but quickly caught up to current episodes, so they were dropping them the same week as episodes aired by this one. I think that's where I got most of my "behind the scenes" knowledge about the show.

I think when I first saw this episode, I got a little chill from the Accountant telling Michael that no one had gotten into the Good Place in over 500 years. Definitely wasn't expecting that! I love how this show continues to circumvent your expectations. It's so much fun. P.S. I think my favorite Janets (that aren't original Janet) are Chidi Janet and Jason Janet. She really had all their mannerisms down to a T! Fantastic.

6:02 That article describes split consciousness, not split personality. The person receiving the procedure doesn't wake up with two different personalities, but when they test the left and right hemispheres independently after the procedure, the right hemisphere appears to be able to process information without communicating that information to the other side, as the connection has been severed. This gives neuroscientists a lot to think about when it comes to where and how consciousness is stored. It doesn't mean everyone has 2 totally different personalities inside them and severing the relationship between the two causes them to come out. There is a surgery called a hemisphesectomy where they remove one half of the brain (usually because it is causing multiple seizures per day, dying, and at risk of causing mental, physical, and developmental delays). It is usually performed on young children and, due to the plasticity of young brains, the patients are often able to walk and control the opposite side of the body again in a matter of weeks with physical therapy, and lead relatively normal lives. Major personality changes have not been a commonly reported side effect. Usually parents say that the kid is "back to the way she was" before the seizures began in the first place.

Us Clone Club fans knew you'd love this episode! Couldn't wait to see your face at the clone swap ahahah! If I recall, Michael Shur moved this episode up (was supposed to air after the mid-season break) so that it would be eligible for that year's Emmy's just for D'Arcy to have a shot at it. Also, he had the four humans record the lines themselves so that D'Arcy could listen to them and prepare herself to be them. She tells a funny story about how she listened to them all the time in her car and ran into one of the castmates and was worried they'd think she was crazy for having their voices blaring out of her stereo all the time.

@@DFQreacts Speaking of clone swaps, settle a debate between myself... Which was a better one: Rachel as Sarah to steal Kira (amazing because it's the only one that most people, me included, don't clock as it happens), or the "Holy Doodle" double swap? Also can I say that your editing-in of Doctor Who clips is on point? Man, Clone Club, Whovian, Good Place nerd... If you start adding SG-1, Futurama, or Newsroom clips I'm going to have to order a DNA test to see if we're related.

@@VebastionSettel haha unfortunatly I have seen SG-1 and Futurama, but I have not seen The Newsroom (except for that amazing jeff Daniels clip about America not being the best country in the world) I'd probably have to say the Rachel one, just because of the fear it caused and the wrench it threw in our heroes plans.

@@DFQreacts Man I grew up on SG-1 when it aired live. When it comes to tv shows that's my 'home'. I did love SG-U (even though it took a while to figure itself out), but for some reason never enjoyed Atlantis. The Newsroom is well worth a watch on your own time. One of the best written and directed Sorkin shows (up there with West Wing to me). I might agree on the Rachel swap. So unexpected and well executed (both in-show and in production). I love that it fooled me (and anyone else I see watching it), but when you go back and watch it again paying attention, Rachel's 'Sarah' accent isn't quite right and her shoulders aren't slumped. We COULD have noticed it but you really gotta be with it. Masterful job by Tat and the production team to balance the need to give us enough to know what's happening while also hiding it enough that we CAN miss it.

@@VebastionSettel I ended up watching it well after, but binged most of it (actually I realized I never watched 7-9 so I watched it a few years after, not as good as the earlier seasons though) SGU I've been told that same thing, but its one I havent seen yet. I loved when they found Atlantis in SG1, it felt so cool to open up the world within the show! West Wing is another show I haven't seen! lol (but again, have seen some really great clips from!) I do intend to watch it as Jeff Daniels doesn't live too far from me and I've been a big fan of his for a long time! Wow, really? I have been thinking about rewatching OB again, but I didn't notice the subtle Sarah inflection! I bet there would be a ton of things I missed that I'd catch in a rewatch, especially since I had to comment through the show anyway lol

So, the crux of Chidi's argument in this episode is that he can't possibly have any feelings for Eleanor because his past reboots are not the same person as him. Eleanor's counterpoint-that Chidi is just using logic to avoid confronting his feelings-hits a lot harder when you remember an exchange that occurred early in season 2. In 2x3, Eleanor decides to leave the group and head to the Medium Place. Chidi tries to stop her, to which she rebuts that she barely knows him. Chidi's response? "We've been through some version of this 800 times." It's a complete reversal of roles. We went from Eleanor running away and Chidi trying to get through to her, to Chidi being forced to confront his own feelings about Eleanor.

You can split the brain in half if you cut the corpus callosum, the network of nerves between the two hemispheres, but it wouldn't change the personality. What it does is change how a person responds to stimuli. You could hold a piece of cardboard between the eyes and then display something funny to one of the eyes. The person might laugh and not know why because the communication network has been removed.

If you want to know something truly freaky, people with multiple personality disorder now known as disassociative identity disorder... Occasionally and I do mean very rarely but often enough to wear it is proven to be something that is real, the most popular example was an individual where none of their personalities would test positive for diabetes except for one personality which had diabetes. It wasn't their primary personality either. That's with the brain fully connected although be it with plenty of childhood trauma and there are other instances where it's something beneficial like a personality will they're develop or surface or whatever that knows a language or a skill that you and none of your personalities have ever done any research into at all. They will have vast amounts of knowledge about this topic that you have never actually encountered in your daily life. Like there's one thing if you start speaking the bits of French or whatever that you've actually heard versus speaking it fluently. There are even cases of people having brain injuries where they just switched languages completely and entirely like they can no longer speak their native language. They still think in their native language however when they speak it comes out as the language that they have adopted due to the brain injury.

I kinda went down this rabbit hole with Moon Knight (as that show is primarily about DID), but for multiples to arise and having only one have Diabetes and the others dont...does the brain turn off the pancreas' ability to produce insulin? THAT is something I've never heard before, but is so fascinating! I have heard of the language thing, which is astonishing enough, but that diabetes thing really stumps me! lol
