I didn't remember this on first viewing either, but Michael & Janet wrote the Manifesto at the end of their stay in Australia (season 3) when the humans had discovered everything, and they figured everyone was doomed. (Until Eleanor came back with "Try anyway.") After that, Michael told Bad Janet that Good Janet had been updating it since then, before he gave her a copy.
@sherrysink31772 жыл бұрын
Yes, spot on! I believe it's that scene where Michael started typing out the manifesto reeeeeeeally slowly and having to backspace to delete his typing errors, and Janet was like, "Let me just do this...." and took the keyboard from him and started typing super fast, lol.

I feel like this show acts as a retelling of the story of the fallen angel but the opposite, where Michael is kicked out of hell and rises to heaven because of his sin of having faith in humans. I mean shit, even his name is biblical
@thecontinent91922 жыл бұрын
Michael said any one is capable of rehabilitation (which is true). I definitely feel like a point system is ridiculous. Similar to grades, I know it's done to quantify something that isn't quantifiable. Plenty of people have knowledge of things they aren't tested on in schools and may perform better than other people who test high. You can't quantify how "good" someone is, and you'll see soon in an episode, but "What We Owe To Each Other" explains something we all already know, but don't practice regularly.
@wyterabitt21492 жыл бұрын
You missed the point of grades and general qualification systems. I might be able to diagnose your medical condition better than a doctor by teaching myself, it's probably best you don't test that theory.

Simone was the only one really being tried while in The Good Place because she was actively angry at Brent the entire time. Had almost anyone else been in that position, and Simone would have had a lot more points. She was just tired of his shit, as were we all when we met him on the show. The Bad Place knew this when they placed him there. He was there for Simone.

I actually think that Simone had the lowest % after Brent because she was already pretty cool and she becoming a better person is not a big change as we saw with John

no Simon had more issue than just brent. she was overly judgy of others on earth & in the after life, she made similar chooses to brent aka leaving him in the hole. she didnt really understand flexibility or respect when it came to others. Her whole " lets destroy and annoy stuff/people becuase i dont think this is real" attitude was not it. So point were not just on Brent and her reaction to him but it was part of it.
@wynnyx70712 жыл бұрын
@@wisewillowgames The whole "none of this is real" thing was strange, and didn't match the Simone we met on earth. She was lovely. Chidi came into her office and acted strangely (refusing to sit on a chair in case she liked one more). A lot of folks would have just kicked him out. She listened to him and went along with this rando guys ideas because, despite the first impressions, she was open to him. Suraj, you all have to remember the reason the point system doesn't work was because of the unforeseen negative affects from even a positive action. So even if they took in the butterfly effect of your actions, you would be accumulating both positive and negative points. But then once again unforeseen negatives. The points stopping at the time of death is actually why, points wise, Mindy St. Claire was the closest person to get into the Good Place in 521 years. Because she had this humanitarian idea, and she put the ball in motion but died before she could actually follow through further, therefore not receivingany of the unforeseen negative points have such a large foundation would accrue. So basically like Brent, she got a large surge of points right before she died. Placing her in the Medium Place

The thing I'll never get is the Judge's logic at the beginning of this episode. When she argues that she can't change anything just because 3 people got a little better and the results needed to be "overwhelming" as if that isn't still a 75% success rate AND let's say Brent had also improved around the same rate, so according to her, 3 people isn't enough to change the afterlife but...4 would be sufficient?

20:39 I hate it when people go _way too far out of their way_ to hold a door open for me. Unless my arms are full while I try to balance a wobbling stack of delicate tiered cakes for some reason, while I'm simultaneously being yanked around by a giant dog on a leash and I couldn't take the time to make two trips or to get help because the building was on fire and the door I'm approaching has a handle that you need to turn and pull towards you, not just push open, please don't think you're doing me a favor by holding open a door for me that I'm still 50 feet away from. I get it, you're a nice person. I'll give you credit by default. Don't make the next 45 seconds weird while I walk towards the door and you just stare at me waiting for my appreciation. I'm not going to be pressured into doing that goofy, half run/walk thing to get to you in half of the time, lol. It's just going to be awkward. The next time it happens, I'm going to think of this video and curse the Normies for spreading this silly standard of what it means to be a good person. At least use discretion, pretty please. 😅

To answer your question about my funeral, I would love for my organs to be donated and my body to be cleaned out and stuffed with all my favorite snacks. Then they would suspend me and everybody would say some nice things about me before they took turns beating me with a stick like a pinata. Upon my body exploding everyone would go crazy trying to snatch the candy. Oh, my head would be removed first and stuck in a lava lamp, which would be carried by someone in the crowd to make it seem like I am watching the spectacle. Good times.

It’s hypocritical to criticize Simone for being judgmental while holding her to a higher standard than yourself. I guarantee that everyone agrees that it’s ok to cut someone out of your life who is making you miserable. Simone didn’t have that option in this situation. She had to keep putting up with Brent’s BS while he made no attempts to see anything from her perspective. It’s not fair to make it her responsibility to change him. Simone’s actions were reasonable. Anyone who disagrees is stuck on top of their high horse.
@bernardsoul51862 жыл бұрын
The Normies never even remotely suggested it's Simone's responsibility to change Brent. They merely pointed to the fact that her score rose the least and that she walked away from Chidi, whom she was supposed to be in love with. Also the fact that she didn't have to forget Brent, but that doesn't mean she, you know, has to let him fall into the fiery pit. That's all they said. So the one that needs to get off their high horse is you. And maybe take an active listening class.
@MarieAnne.6 ай бұрын
Gotta agree with @bernardsoul5186. The reason Simone didn't improve as much as the other two is not because she didn't change Brent. It's because she didn't change herself enough. She seemed set in her rigid ways with everyone.

I suggested that one of my friends who has a KZbin channel get a patreon account and I told them that they would not even need to put the reference video in the video for patreon because that would count as a market substitute if they show the entire episode reference video and I've tried to comment on KZbinrs who like a tablet or something like that in screen where they're showing the entire video as well or a mirror for some really cheap accounts and let them know that they can't be doing that if they want their channel to stay around or not get sued for thousands of dollars but they keep doing it.

1) I like this episode, but Chidi didn't improve 26%. In episode one, he did nothing to help Simone adjust to the afterlife, even though she helped him with the brain scan in season three with no questions asked. In episode 2, he only agreed to help Simone after Eleanor told him that he could fork her. In episode 3, he almost ratted out Jason. In episode 4, he only drew a picture and had a meaningless conversation with Eleanor. In episode 5, he wouldn't participate in any group activities. In episode 6, he went on the outing but still didn't participate, and he punched Brent in the face, even though he started the conflict by summoning a book, and in episode 7, he proved himself to be a hypocrite for his criticisms of Brent as a bad person. So how did he improve 26% when he wasn't tested on anything? He was still called the most indecisive person in history in this episode, and he still didn't want to try anything new. 2) I did like the funeral stuff even though, nobody said anything about Chidi, but what could any of them say about a guy who could only talk about one topic, and after season one, Tahani and Jason had no real relationship with Chidi. Plus, Eleanor's speech extolling Chidi's virtues, only applied to her relationship with him and not his relationship with anyone else in this show. 3) I also liked the courtroom scene; especially the riffs between Michael and Sean, but the Judge's ruling was the definition of insane. She should have been disbarred for that ruling. 4) Remember that Mindy ended up in the medium place because people from the Good Place fought for her to be there, but can you really imagine these jokers from the Good Place committee fighting for anything?
