The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is an American animated television series created by Bruce W. Smith and Ralph Farquhar which premiered on Disney+ on February 23, 2022. It is a revival and soft reboot of The Proud Family, which originally aired on Disney Channel from 2001 to 2005.
In April 2022, Disney+ confirmed that the show's second season was in production, which premiered on Disney+ on February 1, 2023. The series has been received positively in critic reviews. The series made its linear premiere on January 7, 2023 on Disney Channel, and on Disney XD on January 8, 2023.
The series follows Penny Proud, a 14-year-old girl and her family, as they navigate their lives in the 2020s. Penny, and her parents Trudy and Oscar, face a myriad of challenges. Suga Mama returns, as does Michael, Dijonay, Zoey, and LaCienega. Two new kids, Maya and KG, raised by two dads, try to adapt to life in Smithville.
Grandma's Hands - Penny continues to arrive home late at night from hanging out with Kareem and continuously fails to do her homework. Fed up with her irresponsible behavior, Trudy locks Penny out of the house and refuses to let her in to teach her a lesson. Oscar gives Penny some bus money to go to Suga Mama's house. While she takes her in, she knows of Penny's misdeeds and subjects her to a variety of chores that tire her out. Even when her friends show up, they get dragged into helping out around the house. To further annoy her, Trudy announces that she, Oscar and the twins are heading to New York City to see her sister's new play for the week. Just as Penny finally gets used to her new routine, Suga Mama suddenly falls down the stairs and is stuck in a wheelchair. At first, she is scared that Penny will take her revenge on her, but she instead agrees to take care of her and Bobby. As the rest of the Prouds return home, Trudy is happy to see that Penny has improved as she admits that she did it all out of love. Penny and Trudy make up.

@EeveelutionStorm Not to mention all of the alive kids and older teens that basically get the Theresa Knorr Treatment. She's an infamous mom that said she changed because she converted to Christianity, but she pretty much killed two of her daughters and made one of them (the youngest and now deceased) unable to have any children if she wanted to because of her mom's horrific years of torture.

Truth is Trudy and Oscar have BOTH acted this way with Penny since the beginning. Remember...Oscar doesn't do ANY of his chores, he puts all of them on Penny's shoulders

@@Neku628 If he WERE the "man of the house" as he claims, Oscar would be putting more money in the family account and putting meat on the table (instead of those Godforsaken Proud Snacks.) Trudy's not innocent in this either, though. Remember the time she forced Penny to be a Debutante?

If Trudy really wanted to discipline Penny, then she should do it the responsible way. Simply keep her in her room and don't allow her to leave the house unless she's going to school. Have her do chores without allowance. Or, like you said, just send her to Suga Mama's directly. Punish her responsibly, not leave her out the house. That's child neglect and a great example of bad parenting.

Who's going to make sure Penny stays in her room? Penny's not in cooperating mode at that time, Trudy works, Oscar is unreliable, the twins? Clearly Suga Mama was the last resort and that came after Trudy found out Penny was acting up at school. Scaring her straight was definitely the best option or a whooping

@@DDarkestKnight Again, send her to her grandmother's house directly. There are ways to punish your child responsibly. And honestly, not only was Trudy acting wildly out of character, so was Penny. The entire execution of it all fell short.

@@waters228_91 Again Suga Mama is the last resort. The whole episode is built around Penny wilding out and Trudy reacting in response. Because Penny forgot that in two parent households there's one parent you *don't* cross and that's the agreeable parent.

@@DDarkestKnight And all of that is still executed poorly since Penny has no motivation for her attitude (especially considering she usually does well in school) and Trudy's actions here condescends to child neglect. As I said, both were out of character here.

I really don’t like the relationship between Suga Mama and Oscar in this show. In the original, it was more comedically charming, here, its just abuse between one or the other

The OG show was pretty cruel with Oscar's relationship with his mom and Suga Mama's relationship to her son. This show also shows how much of a man-child, Uncle Bobby is. I mean, what's going to happen to Bobby once Suga Mama, his only surviving parent is dead and buried? Bobby's lucky to have his brother and his sister-in-law and even a homeless shelter, but not everyone has that.

I think that's one of the best criticisms of the show I've heard so far. Some cartoons can balance the over the top cartoony nature and the more grounded moments but the Proud Family struggles with making it clear what's just meant to be silly and overblown and what we're really supposed to sit with.

Strike obviously. Penny in Grandma's Hands was in trouble for acting up to her mama for no reason and suffered the consequences. In Strike Penny was fighting for a worthy cause and ultimately failed like a lot of unions

@@DDarkestKnightI wouldn’t say it’s garbage but rewatching the old series as an adult penny’s treatment by everyone else in the story is extremely aggravating and none of the lessons “stick.” But that’s a cartoon trope problem more than it being specifically the proud family
