Just in case anyone is wondering: The reason that Christine Nonbo, the soprano, is introduced and Tuva Semmingsen, the mezzosoprano, the lady in red with the revolver ear ring, is not, is that this is a part of a larger concert. Semmingsen was introduced earlier, while this is Nonbo's first appearance.

If you really want to be blown away, understand that these professional musicians typically get their sheet music on Monday after their weekend concert. They're expected to have it down by Wednesday, have perhaps two rehearsals and then are expected to play a two hour concert of incredibly complex and difficult music on Friday through Sunday. The next week a whole different two-hour symphony. I love my rock music, but what a professional orchestra accomplishes is truly unreal.
@akyhne2 жыл бұрын
I actually think the conductor has a more stressful work ahead of her. She has to sit down, figure out how she wants to mix these two songs together into one. It's also up to her, where and how in the piece, she wants emphasis (is that the right wording?) etc. in the song. She might also make some parts longer or shorter, and then write the frigging nodes down for ALL the orchestra and choir. But she seemed extremely happy with the result. At 14:41 she almost looks like she's having an orgasm.

Tuva Semmimgsen (the wah-wah lady) is an incredibly talented mezzo-soprano, and she is absolutely doing that sound with just her voice. She's done singing for a lot of these concerts. Of particular note is her performance of "Who Wants to Live Forever" by Queen, as part of "Fantasymphony", the fantasy themed concert they did in... 2017, I think? As for the orchestra, there are probably around 130 people playing instruments and using vocals just on this piece. The orchestra itself counts just over 100 musicians. The flute-like instrument you couldn't identify is an ocarina. The other instrument you speculated was a clarinet is actually, I think, a cor anglais, or English horn, which is a type of oboe. The guitarists are just two musicians from the string section. Most orchestra musicians know other instruments similar to the ones they usually play in the orchestra. Instruments like recorders, electric guitars/basses, pianos, drum kits, ocarinas, etc. are not typically part of a symphony orchestra, but naturally, these special themed concerts are usually not classical music.

The Uncommon Orchestra Instruments: 4:34 Recorder - just like the recorder elementary school kids have to get in music class (USA). 4:37 Tuva Semmingsen's Voice (with shadowing by a harmonica player) - I think a lot of reaction videos think she's making the harmonica sound with her voice, but it's a separate musician. 4:55 Ocarina - Gamers might recognize this instrument from the classic game, "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time". This one in the video doesn't have time manipulation properties, though. 😄 8:38 Whip or Slapstick - Used by orchestras to simulate the sound of a whip cracking. 10:16 The harmonica player shadowing Tuva. 10:43 (NOT an uncommon orchestra instrument) Oboe - Its deeper-voiced relative is the Bassoon
@ITubeTooInc Жыл бұрын
10:43 I believe it's an English horn rather than an oboe. The English horn is in the oboe family of instruments, but approx. 1½ times the length of an oboe. Unlike an oboe and English horn has a bocal (the curved part between the reed and the body) like you can see in this video. This is to make it more comfortable to hold and easier to reach the keys on this long instrument. An oboe doesn't have a bocal like seen in this video. And oboe d'amore also has a bocal like and English horn and the oboe d'amore is in between the oboe and English horn in the oboe family.

So much to say about this. Creative to have the singers in the stands and the dualing soprano lady vs. wah wah lady facing each other from different ends of the auditorium. Loved the camera crew zooming in and out of all the musicians and singers. This is my interpretation of their performance: - Stimulating to the eyes, ears, heart and soul - Beginning drum beat sounds like an American Indian Tribal beat - The men vocals sounds like an American Indian language - The background women's voices and the strings represents the air and the wind - The Wah Wah Lady represents The Time and Spirit of the Old West - The Soprano vocalist represents The Angel of War - The rhythm is at the same tempo when horses are galloping through the land. Special thank you to the Italian composer, Ennio Morricone. I also suggest The Danish National Symphony's performance of The Godfather Suite.

The first "flute-like" instrument played is called a "recorder." The same guy played his second solo with an ocarina. In both instances, the "wah wah" singer (Tula Severingsen) wah-wahed and whistled her parts in conjunction with a harmonica. When they went into the "Ecstasy of Gold" part of the arrangement, the pianist's arpeggios were followed by oboe solos. The oboe solo was followed by the incredibly beautiful vocal solo by soprano, Christine Nonbo Andersen. To me, this was even better than the original film score.
