Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, or even Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. Italian westerns are way better than their acclaim in the 60s/70s. Director of photography Tonino Delli Colli was responsible for the film's sweeping widescreen cinematography, and Ennio Morricone composed the film's score, including its main theme. It was an Italian-led production with co-producers in Spain, West Germany, and the United States. Most of the filming took place in Spain.

The music is much different without the movie itself playing in front of you. The music is just there in the background, in this setting it is brought to the forefront and truly allowed to shine in all of it's majesty. If music can touch someone at their core and cause an emotional response it is an amazing piece of art in and of itself. Ennio Morricone was a master at his craft. He was able to score the film with a much smaller orchestra, and this piece is ageless and timeless.

You said you believed it was from Western. Of course. Or, more precisely, from one of the movies from the series of so-called Spaghetti Westerns shot in Italy and Spain by Sergio Leone. The music for all these films was by Ennio Morricone. The main "star" was Clint Eastwood (still little known at the time). American westerns, it was such a fairy tale, where some are noble and others are very bad. The spaghetti western showed the heroes more realistically. The good ones were not quite so good and vice versa. And life in the Wild West was inherently violent and lawless. My favorite theme from these films is "Man With Harmonica" from Once Upon a Time in the West. One of the most epic dark rock tunes. One of the first gothic rock bands began its debut album with this song.

But both the brilliant Instructor, Sergio Leone and the Music came from Italy, and they made a real Masterpiece in this genre!! To my knowledge Composer, Ennio Morricone never saw the film but made the fantastic score only from asking! And shortly before he died, he gave a Concert in Copenhagen, so I do hope that some of the musicians from here, were also present? And as also a Dane I am very proud of this extreme, and much watched, Danish/Norwegian performance 😄! The Oboe, clearly seen at a time, should be a very difficult instrument to adjust to sound fine, with two wooden blades as the mouth piece?

I am a massive fan of Clint Eastwood and westerns, and have been for as long as I can remember. Some of the classics of the 60s had some pretty epic scores, and Morricone was a staple of that with the Spaghetti westerns. Also worth checking out is the Elmer Bernstein theme to the Magnificent seven. I was not even born when this came out but grew up in the 70s and 80s, and it did not matter if you had seen the film or not, you knew the theme to it. If you talked about westerns, the first thing that most people would do is hum this theme, its that iconic. The film is great, but may not be for everyone, especially considering its age and length. It's a slow burner, but when the action hits it really hits. All three main actors are iconic in their roles as well.

The wawa effect is caused by melodic doubling with a harmonica. So while she sings wawa a harmonica is playing the same notes in unison there by creating the sound. You see the harmonica for a brief second at about 4:15

Hi Millie, great and genuine reaction ! First of all...the Danish National Symphony Orchestra is really incredible, they gave a "next to perfection" rendition of the Morricone's masterpiece...sincerely fantastic. I heard many other pieces of music played by them and they're all wonderful and creative versions of the relative originals. Second...I have to say I still prefer, "for an inch", the original movie soundtrack...the score was, in my opinion, perfectly dipped in the musical atmosphere of the times...the 60s...with rock music goin' on full speed. You can especially hear it in the sound of the guitars, which was dirty, distorted, altered, wild...I can't find the right definition, but that sound was not easy to build and that sound made all the difference !!! Anyway, this was part of the score of the film "THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY" -1966.....once you heard it, you can't avoid listening to the soundtracks of the other Sergio Leone/Ennio Morricone's spaghetti westerns: "A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS" -1964, "FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE" -1965, "ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST" -1968 (this is mandatory !!) and also "DUCK, YOU SUCKER ! -1971. Enjoy yourself !

Here are the lyrics: "Yo,yo,yo,echo! Yo,yo,yo,echo! Yo,yo,yo,echo!" You're welcome!😁 BTW, I love it when you say, "It sounds so western! Well, what I imagine western sounds like!". I do believe that the Italian Westerns became what most of the world thought the American West was like, romantic, adventurous and wild with chivalry a lost art and where men slapped girls and kissed horses. In reality, that was about 80% right! 😆 John Wayne once called Clint Eastwood to talk about the Italian movies he was in and he told Clint he didn't like them because the movies weren't about family based men building a new world, and the movies were savage and mean. Clint tried to explain it to John but gave up and said, "I hear what you are saying but these are the roles I like to play.". Clint said in an interview, "John and I are of two different generations and I was never going to convince him to accept the new movies.". Which movies are more indictive of the real old west? Neither probably but the Italian West had far better music, so I'll go with that one. 🤠

Been to the Orchestra a few times in my town (Dallas), venues were the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center and Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie. Nothing else matches an Orchestra for pure scale and grandeur. Although most classical music fans consider it a different genre, movie soundtracks are the modern equivalent for the Operas Mozart and Bethoven wrote, in their eras.

Of Morricone I suggest: (titles in Italian) "Chi Mai" "Rabbia e Tarantella" "La Califfa" "Il grande silenzio"

Loved watching your reactions as the song progressed and the different instruments and voices came in. Classical/Rock/Grunge/Pop/Opera/Jazz, it doesn't matter. It is art bringing people of all walks of life together. The best part is the cross over between the genres where people recognise the beauty in those other genres without having to be a fan. Like reading a fiction book, you might not be a fan of crime novels but you can still appreciate the author's writing techniques.

i read that Metallica always have this played (the second part) at the start of their concerts. They certainly did on the video of them playing "Enter Sandman" in Moscow. that live playing of Enter Sandman is as you say "So Epic". If you want a really good mix of Classic and rock take a look at The 2Cellos videos start with Thunderstruck or Highway To Hell with Steve Vai.

Morricone imitated sounds from the movie as part of the soundtrack. Including a coyote as a musical instrument (the choir imitated a coyote).
