On Wednesday August 23rd at 12:30 pm, approximately 65 Hot Rods drifted into the Mustangs Plus parking lot (no pun intended...) for lunch and a tour of Mustangs Plus and The Restomod Shop. Other customers came to meet the Good Guys group and see their cars and Hot Rods. And what a show they got! It was like a mini-Good Guys show in our parking lot. There were all kinds of classic cars and trucks ranging from pure street rods with 600+ HP engines to stock 85 HP flathead Ford V8s. One thing all of the "Good Guys" had in common, the men and ladies alike, was that big smile on their faces!
I worked to help park the cars, taking special care to try and park the black cars in the shade. Having a black '65 Mustang myself, I know that I'm always looking for shade to park in. It seemed that everyone brought their appetites so we started serving lunch just as soon as we got everyone parked. After lunch was finished, I thanked everyone for coming and then made them aware of our October 21st up-coming show. Hopefully some of the Fords will attend. I then told the 120+ crowd that we would start the tour as soon as they were finished eating. Amazing how fast they finished! As we walked through Mustangs Plus and the warehouse, told them some trivia about us building the Mustangs Plus building they were standing in over 30 years before and about the Mustangs we had on display. As we walked through the warehouse, I answered questions and tried to make looking at parts on the shelf as interesting as I could.
As we made our way over to The Restomod Shop, Terry Simpson was working with an air chisel to remove rusty sheet metal off of a 1966 Mustang fastback. Or, what was there to work on of a 1966 Mustang fastback. Everything from the roof back was gone and was being readied for new quarter panels, taillight panel, trunk floor, etc. As you can imagine, the crowd had a lot of questions for Terry. And, they asked me some, too. However, I had learned a long time ago to smile and say "Thank you for asking, but I think it would be better if you asked Terry that question.", when it came to body work questions. The next time they see the fastback, it will be beautiful again!
We had a great time, a great turnout and now we have great memories of "The Good Guys" stop at Mustangs Plus and The Restomod Shop. As the title says, "Good Times" with "The Good Guys" and that's the truth! Special thanks to Dave Mock for contacting me several months ago and setting the visit up. We look forward to doing it again, real soon!
