One of my favorite movies when I was a kid. I'm 46 now. For me, my favorite moment is the wishing well speech about "It's our time. It's our time down here." Also the musical score is so good at evoking wonder. As a kid stuck in a boring suburb where "nothing ever happens," this movie was great escapist fun. A few things don't age well in this movie, but overall it's still great nostalgic fun to see clips from it.

This film holds a special place in my heart 😀. Like many others, I grew up with it. The main theme that captivated me was the sense of wonder that hung in every scene. The inviting location made me root for this pack of kids, and the incredible acting portrayed the dynamics of the group, making me believe that these friends knew each other well and had grown together since the beginning.

You should tell your friends that the catch phrase "Hey you guys!!" was a reference to a 1970s kids' show that was only shown in the NYC Metropolitan area, via PBS. It was called The Electric Company. Among other impressive cast members, the show starred young: Morgan Freeman, Mel Brooks, Joan Rivers, Rita Moreno and more, with a slew of legendary guest stars throughout its six show seasons. This was a great, great show; cool and hip, with outstanding reading and other lessons. At the top of the intro song, Rita Moreno would shout, "HEY YOU GUYS!!" and then this big drum roll and song would start. Here's a clip of it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpDMeJSHnNGhgck

You know Sean Astin has had some really iconic lines and speeches in his long career. They actually built that like a real pirate ship. Unfortunately no one wanted to take it after they were through filming so it was destroyed.an you imagine what that piece of memorabilia would be worth now? I was 21 when this came out so I wasn't the target audience but I loved it anyway.

Thank you for watching one of my childhood favourites, I was 12 when this came out in the UK and it was like seeing my friends and I in a movie lol. We all would meet at a friend's house and have a pile of BMX bikes blocking his parents drive before we went off to the old common that was a derelict world war 2 base and race, make base's and get into as much trouble as we could 😂. This isn't just a film, it's time travel....

Many thanks to Achara and Andrew for watching and reacting to one of my all-time favourites! The line, "Hey, you guuuuuuuuys!" isn't actually a catchphrase from this movie, at least not originally. Sloth borrowed that from "The Electric Company", a long-running educational TV show that was broadcast on American public television. In fact, one of my favourite things about "The Goonies" was hearing a famous line from a TV show that I really loved, and knowing that Sloth was a fan of it, too. The catchphrase was immortalized by the legendary Rita Moreno, who starred on "The Electric Company" throughout its run. She was able to really belt it out, and gave it an almost feral tone, which Sloth doesn't really do justice to. But then again, I imagine very few people could. And regarding the pirate ship: You're right about the government getting a hold of it. The Coast Guard needed to track it down and tow it to shore -- a huge ship adrift with no one at the helm is a terrible danger to commercial shipping. However, that sets in motion perhaps the most amazing part of the story. The movie doesn't touch on it; instead, the aftermath of the Goonies' adventure is detailed in the novelization (which I haven't read myself, but I know about it from TVTropes.org). In a lot of ways, the novel's postscript makes the film's already happy ending even better. If you'd like to know the details, let me know. If you'd rather try to track down the story yourself, I won't spoil it for you. Great job!

They purposely hid the ship from the kids until the actual moment they saw it for the first time in order to capture the awe of the moment. They were reacting to something they had yet to see. Pretty cool way to get a real reaction.

The "We only serve tongue here" said by Mama Fratelli is kind of a dark Easter Egg. As the story goes, the actress who portrayed her (Anne Ramsey) had lost some of her tongue just prior to the making of the movie from some kind of cancer. The way she sounds in the movie is the direct cause of having part of her tongue being surgically removed.

Maritime law includes Right Of Salvage. The kids found the ship, so after the Coast Guard tows it out of shipping lanes, it belongs to the kids. Since possession is "nine-tenths of the law," the treasure on board belonged to the private individuals that owned the ship instead of the gov'ts or companies it was stolen from. To lay claim to any of the treasure then, the gov't or company would first need to prove that a particular jewel or coin was stolen from them. If the ship had been corporate or gov't owned, the original owners' successors would lay claim to everything on board; but private citizen One Eyed Willy had no heirs and is unable to claim the vessel himself, so the ship and all its contents belong to the people that find it and claim salvage rights.

It is rather difficult to make an ensemble story and giving each character some time in the spotlight. If it's done right, you may like to see more of one character, but you can see that it would take time from another character. Most memorable scene? The reveal of the Inferno, the pirate ship. Until then you expected them just to find a pile of treasure, or a chest or something, but the entire ship? Wow.
