That little girl who Josh Brolin steals the pink bike from is called Patricia Gonzales. She is from the UK originally. Born in England to Irish mother and Filipino father. Both parents died when she was a baby. She lived all over the world being passed to and from friends of distant relative's. I know this because I used to date her. I know that she lived in Oregon USA from the age of about 3 until about 5. It's hard to know the real age because she has no idea when she was born. But when I was helping her track down her past, we found out about an old 'Granpa' living in Oregon, we, managed to track him down who is now well into his 90s and in a home for the elderly. He recalls that he was once asked to look after a young girl for a couple of months, he didn't want to look after her as she was related to his wife who passed away and was a reminder that they never had children. She died of ovarian cancer. So he gave the girl to his neighbours who were making a 'big movie'. We also collected letters and pictures of the cast and sets and an unclaimed check for $10, on the back it says in very faint ink "Thank y.... ro.... ....th... B.. & Patric.. Gon...... Godspe... Lit......." That's the best we could make out. The things we have, they all seem to point to her being that little Asian girl who got her bike stolen. The story goes on. But that's nothing to do with you. lol. I just thought it would be interesting to share that bit of trivia.

I watched this in 1985 as a teenager, loved it then and still love it today. When Chunk and the police where talking on the phone and by the look on your face I don't think you have seen Gremlins from 1984, you should watch that soon another great comedy/horror movie

Trivia: The reactions when the Goonies all see the pirate ship after splashing out of the water slide were genuine. They were deliberately not allowed to see it until the cameras were rolling, to capture their real first reactions.

Yeah, that's Josh Brolin, not James. The younger brother is Sean Astin, who was Sam in Lord of the Rings, and also shows up in Stranger Things.

Jeff Cohen (Chunk) has another credit that flies under the radar. In 1982, he was a featured clue giver (via videotape) on CHILD'S PLAY with Bill Cullen. You always saw him with a double bill baseball cap. Sloth (the strong one) was played by late NFL star John Matuszak.

Another movie that you might like is Netflix 2021 film "Finding ʻOhana", this time it's a girl that drags her friends on an adventure to find pirate gold, on Hawaii. They parody "The Goonies" a bit, and even have the actor that played Data make a "slick shoes" reference. It feels like the middle of the movie is a reboot of 'Goonies'.

This movie is worth a watchthrough with the cast commentary on the DVD. They talk about how they deliberately screwed up scenes just because they wanted to do it again, how they would play on the set, and how they just in general drove Richard Donner crazy.

Spielberg wouldn't let the kids see the ship before they shot the scene of the kids seeing the ship for the first time because he wanted to capture their real reactions. Unfortunately that take couldn't be used because all the kids reacted with "Holy shit!!"...so they had to shoot the scene again with the kids acting like they're seeing it for the first time.

Fun fact the kids reaction to the pirate ship was genuine.... they were purposefully keeper away from that set where a full sized pirate ship was built... the part where they all say wow was their first time seeing it and riding the water slide

I saw this way back then in the theatres . One Eyed Willy 💀. We have to play the bones to get through this movie 💀😁. The one who played the mother was also in a movie with Danny DeVito called " Throw Momma From The Train " 🚂. Spielberg left the ship as a surprise for the kids because he wanted to get a real reaction. So he just built the waterslide and as soon as they came out. That's the real reaction they had to the ship .
