Back in the day Police forces were overseen by Police Authorities not Politically aligned Commissioners or local mayors the only exception was the Met who were directly controlled by the Home office . Constitutionally the Police and the Judiciary were separate from Government I really cant understand how a Prime Minister can dictate to judges how to deal with certain cases or dictate to Police Forces how they should enforce the law .If the Government control justice then the Government becomes above the law. .Remember the Magna Carter I think that's what it was all about.

I was a rank and file copper for 30 years, mostly spent at the sharp end. When I retired, nearly 20 years ago, I could see where things were going and the take over of the progressives. I immediately found a job lecturing in a university teaching linguistics and found academia to be even more woke. They have taken over all public institutions.

They are scared in both directions, but the approach to try prevent uprisings, differs. For some minority groups, it appears let them get away with things, while for the native majority it is control of speech and harsh sentences to not allow any criticism. The later, I could imagine, will get worse and worse the more this pot is coming to the boil.
