I think companies should be required to release the source code to the device after discontinuing them. The software support is what makes the device usable in the first place and if the code were released, the product wouldn’t have to die.

The reliance upon the software was the biggest reason I stayed away from the GoXLR. An analog USB mixer is a fraction of the price, and will only stop working when the hardware has a physical failure.

This really makes me think badly of TC Helicon as a company. They put out THE audio device for streamers, youtubers, podcasters, etc. and absolutely *dominated* the market right from the start. And now, they're just like "yeah, who cares?" Wow. I'll use my GoXLR until I can't anymore, because I love the damn thing. I'll be sad to have to replace it, but I appreciate Harris for showing us all these options.
@Icessassin

they make mostly hardware not software, once the have sold a hardware product they don't have to do anything to support the customer unless that product breaks in the warranty period. Software probably gave them high overheads as they would have had to have kept a team or even a single developer to keep the thing working.

@@outrunpilot nah that’s a massive L take. GoXLR is nearly $500 and it’s not even 5 years old. They’ve barely made any quality of life changes to the product or improved it. So it’s not selfish, that’s just generally expected of a tech/audio company.

The Wave XLR is an excellent little device I think for a single pc setup whether you’re streaming, making videos, or on voice calls/meetings because it’s very simple and effective like you mentioned. Elgato will make a physical audio mixer with dials and faders and LCD keys, basically a fully customizable version of GoXLR but better and with wave link software. It's only a matter of time. My use case for the GoXLR might be kinda niche, yes its an audio interface for my XLR mic but I also like the hardware volume controls, the multiple sound output devices and the ability to have headphones and speakers connected at the same time. I don't stream anymore but I love the GoXLR for the features that it left me with that I've gotten used to enjoying. I'll probably keep using it while it still continues to work ok. Unsurprisingly not many people cover which device or combination of devices will give me this weird combination of features I enjoy. That's ok, I'll figure it out, good video! I was very sad when I heard TC-Helicon was throwing the towel in.

I'm personally using a Rode PodMic hooked up to a Yamaha ZG01 in tandem with a Stream Deck Plus. I was using a Wave:3 for a while, and I absolutely fell in love with the Wave:Link suite, but I ultimately wanted an XLR setup and had my eye on the GoXLR for years. Ultimately, I was your review that convinced me to go for the ZG01 instead. The biggest draws for me were the onboard output swapping between headphones and speakers, surround sound emulation through stereo, and the integrated HDMI Switcher. My monitors at my desk are only 1080p, so I don't need to worry about the limitations of HDMI 2.0 for the passthrough. As for audio routing, I have all my game audio coming directly through the Game output to take advantage of surround sound, while all other audio passes through Wave Link. I can then adjust the levels of each channel as I see fit, then send the monitor mix to the ZG01, while also still keeping the Stream Mix that goes to OBS.

Personally I love the roland bridge cast, I got it so I could use both speakers and headphones easily, and it gives you a great amount of control with extremely easy setup. Personal fav, would recommend especially for music creators, however I recommend getting an xlr splitter or use a diff mic and use a different interface with a bit wider of a freq response so you can get a natural recording too

One thing I never see mentioned in videos about audio devices like this is console and pc audio compatibility. That was something the goxlr did that to my knowledge no other device does without having to jump through hoops. As somebody who does not care about streaming but plays primarily on pc it would be nice to have a device that could route my audio from my consoles and pc all to one output so I could hear it at once. Outside of the goxlr I don't know of one that does and maybe one of the ones in this video work that way but its never brought up and there is no documentation online to suggest it will work. Would be nice to get a video on the best way to get console and pc audio going at the same time.

I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for the incredible content you produce. Your videos have been a constant source of inspiration and knowledge for me. I admire your expertise and the effort you put into creating valuable tutorials. I have been following your channel closely and noticed your previous video on connecting and programming the GoXLR within the Windows settings. It was incredibly helpful and detailed, guiding viewers through the entire process step by step. Your approach makes complex tasks seem much more accessible, and I genuinely appreciate your teaching style. I recently purchased a Rodecaster Pro 2 and would like to connect it to my PC while optimizing the Windows settings for the best performance. As someone who values your expertise, I was wondering if you could create a similar video for the Rodecaster Pro 2. A step-by-step guide on how to connect the device to the PC and program it within the Windows settings would be immensely valuable to me and many other viewers. I understand that creating such content requires time and effort on your part, but I believe it would greatly benefit your audience, including myself. Your ability to break down complex processes into easy-to-follow instructions sets you apart, and I trust your guidance. Thank you for considering my request, Harris. Your videos have been instrumental in expanding my knowledge and helping me navigate the world of audio equipment. However, I think when you said "high quality mic audio" not being a top priority is you're using a device like the presonus, it tells me you have not done enough research. I recommend you test it and compare its XLR inputs and overall mic quality to that of the other interfaces you mentioned. I was unable to find you ever messing with their products so I was just curious how you came to that assessment? I think some would argue I may use the presonus if I care more about overall mic and voice quality vs the extras for content creating in other devices.

Honestly, I constantly shop around for new audio/mic set ups. In the end I have kept the same setup for a while because people compliment how my voice sounds, and my audio is great. I run the Blue Yeti, Fosi Audio DAC-Q4, Sennheiser HD599SE all through VoiceMeeter Potato. I can adjust my mic to sound studio quality, EQ my audio, record and play back, reverb effects, delay, Oculus headset, and have spotify running through it so I can listen to music and play it through the digital mixer to discord at high quality. The only thing that drives me crazy is being digital, there is a tiny delay which can cause jamming if you are monitoring yourself. I REALLY want a physical set up, but in the end dont want to fork up the money if it is for minor changes.

You put me on the goxlr mini and I do not regret even today, it’s sad to see not support but I really enjoyed the device thank you I may have given up on streaming or content creation but the goxlr mini just personal use is amazing being able to split my game audio, mic sens, music volume, etc with 4 sliders is amazing thank you again for recommending me a great device

I think the current best starting srtup is the RODE Podmic USB and the Stream Deck+. The Podmic is so good, and with it being a USB mic now, it’s basically a no-brainer. The Stream Deck+ is also pretty good, but I think this video speaks on that already for me.

When I was looking for a good audio device about six months ago, I wanted the GoXLR, but it seemed like it was going to be axed soon, so I looked for alternatives. I went with the RODECaster Pro II. It had more packed into it than I'll ever use, but it is phenomenal. A few months after I bought it, RODE announced the RODECaster Duo. That is more the size of what I would need, but wasn't going to deal with selling my RCP2 and buying the Duo. So I'm still using the RCP2 and love it.

The funny part is you could always have faders in the past. Example for me is the Soundcraft MTK12 (or 22 if you need), which is a 12 channel (6 pair stereo) mixer. This is "old" by your standards but is ana amazing pro level board and was prices in the $350 range when it came out. Every channel, every mix, and every output shows up in windows as it's own audio source both in and out. It's insane. I use it to run two PCs (gaming and recording), with condenser microphones, patching to both discord and game chat from the same mic(s), sound source from either PC for backgorund music and what have you, including patching in discord chat and others... and effects loop, mix minus options, and so on. GoXLR and others are the "simple" choices, but not always the most flexible choices.

The Stream deck in general is a great production tool. Since i don't stream or anything, I use it for my DAW (Reaper) as a controller, to control transport and other small things (one button click, instead of moving the mouse/keyboard) while i play my instruments.

Interesting. This is exactly why I like oldschool mixers with USB interfaces Like the Mackie Pro FX series, Behringer Xynex series, or the Yamaha MGXU series. They don't have as many streamer specific functions but they will last a very very long time because they are just audio interfaces. dual functionality because they are also fully functional mixers without a computer so they can be sold easily. Truth be told, I am a little curious about Mackies new M-caster series that they just released. Looks a lot more affordable than the DLZ and more simple. The M-Game RGB mixers also look interesting. There's one specifically for two PC setups and one for solo setups. I've not seen the brand before but it would seem that they know a thing or two about what streamers are trying to achieve. But I don't know much about the brand as a whole. Traditional audio is more in my skillset.

Thanks for the video! Long time watcher first time commenter. I picked up the Logitech Blue Sona and use the Focusrite 2i2 interface, love it but was wondering what you would recommend for something with a little more control? Using light host for my VSTs and voicemeeter to control everything. It's a pain. I'm a noob at audio and I know it can be a million times better than it is now. Thanks Harris!

I feel that a decent option that should be mentioned is the Steel Series headsets. The pro even lets you use all 4 audio inputs while in ps4 mode so it’s perfect for a dual pc setup. Usb to stream pc, line out/optical out from gaming pc to line in/optical in on the pro base station, and then you can connect your phone with Bluetooth

For Podcasting, I use a Zoom H6 (with the Exh6 combo, to give me a total of 6 inputs) with 4 SM57's (with A2WS pop filters) and a bunch of table top stands from Neewer. I then have 2 SM58s or some AKG condenser overheads if I need more mics for people. For live stage shows I utilise the same system with the Rode wireless Go 2 to send it to the camera and have a backup of the recording, I then have a second Rode Wireless Go 2 system if there are extra people or if I want to get some mics on people that will be moving around a lot. If I have something like a full band that requires lots of inputs and in ear monitors I use a Behringer XR18.

I was one of those guys with a Vestax screwed in my desk for this reasons. All of the devices mentioned here are way more than valid for the purpose but in my case i found an old samsung a8 tablet and paired it with touchportal and voicemeeter+vbaudio cable. Had a kinda hard time letting all the macros work but i find having only a tablet 10.5" on my desk that does literally everything my computer and stream needs, is a beaut. The only cons i find is that good ol' tactile feeling of faders under my fingers missing.

As an audio guy I would say go with Rode, Mackie, Yamaha, Tascam, or even Behringer if you are on a budget. I have used all of these brands though not their streaming focused tools. The reason I recommend these companies however is they have been around for a while and music audio focused companies tend to support their products just about forever. Though it will also depend on how much you want to learn the hardware and how much direct software integration you need. There are few all in one options from these brands and some of the ones that are out there are pricy. Though if you dont mind a few extra devices on your desk then they all have a huge array of mixer options for all budgets to chose from that you can pair with some form of macro pad like the stream deck (which is really all it is with some focused software support). One thing to look out for though with audio company hardware is the USB interfaces. If it has a USB-C you are likely good with that one but if they are USB-A many of them will likely be 2.0 (and rarely 1.0) unless they are very new products, or it actually says otherwise. Also be sure to look up what a device actually does as there are may DAW controllers that look like they would do what a stream deck and mixer would do but they can only control a DAW and likely will not allow you to do what you are looking for. Though may still be useful when you editing your audio for none live videos.

I have a two PC set up, Both have a wave microphones and Wavelink running them, With Windows volume mixer directing in and outputs. It simplifies the two PC set up. I am not going to get in depth here cause your a really smart dude and probably not gonna see this comment anyway. But if anyone else has questions about Two PC Wavelink setups I MIGHT be able to help. And that's what we're all here for, right to help and learn. Anyway I really enjoyed this video, I am excited to see more RODE stuff.

I liked the look and options with the Rodecaster Pro 2, so I ordered it. I don't have any experience with anything except Wave XLR which worked good, but wanted something a bit more as my wife and I are streaming together.. It had USB 1 (main), USB 1 (chat), USB 2 so I figured I could select the sources and separate them in OBS like I can with the Wave XLR. I was wrong. In order to separate the sources and multitrack you need ASIOAll, then then the configuration which I thought would be easier ended up being a pain to separate out my Game, System, Discord, Music audio. It has "virtual mixers" but those mixers are still based overall on the physical inputs (XLR 1, 2, 3, 4, USB1, USB2, Bluetooth, Midi) and that was it. After 3 days of trying to get it to work, I gave up. I ended up ordering a GoXLR on sale, got it overnight, and had it set up in less than an hour with all the setup options that I needed. If I didn't have an XLR mic, I might have considered Beacon or other alternatives.

I would love to hear ur thoughts about the sound blaster gc7 and the fifine sc 3. right now , after round about 10 years, i want to build me a moody office and gaming space. At the moment i think about a Combo like the tyga 300 R, Wave 3 & stream Deck plus (for easy access of mixing different Audio sources and also use the versatile usecase for productivity). Would u recommand to add an amp/dac to boost the sound quality ? I‘m open for ideas :) Greetings from germany✌️

Correct me if I'm wrong but the one thing I'm noticing that kind of bothers me is with how well the stream deck plus does, you can hook up a mic to it? Regardless, if you get an XLR mic (which I understand having an audio interface for) or usb mic, you have to plug it into another mixer or maybe directly into PC? I get the button functions are awesome but aren't there some that can do both. Kind of like that Rode or I am honestly thinking of one from Guitar Center that has those flow up squares and cant you schedule any macro or hot key to it? just dont have as many but then dont need 2 products or spend more money on one nicer product? Thats what im trying to figure out or contemplate right now cause I dont wanna go buy the Wave XLR now. That just seems like a money grab in a way.

I too am using the M Game Dual RGB. The software is indeed clunky, the tuning features leave a LOT to be desired, voice changer is mid, and did desync before replacing a stock usb. That being said, the routing format is simple, you get 10 sample pads you can customize and change on the fly, seperate audio sliders, multi function mute button, censor button, 48V power, and you get to customize the RGB to your hearts content. I'll continue to use it hearing this news as i was planning for a goXLR

The Problem with brands like Fifine or Beacn is, that they are still not available for purchase here in Germany. I am not one for order in the US or other countries, simply not the biggest fan of that. I wanted to check out the Beacn stuff a while ago, but couldnt find it anywhere here. Not even now, and I already checked quite some time ago. If these companies really want to expand, they have to come across the pond and not only within the US. Just my 2 cents. The Mackie i find interesting, having myself RRCP2. But i love that big screen on the mackie. ^^ I also use Mackie mixers for a long time, and its great to see they also go a little bit more modern nowadays. Nice video, very informative. Thanks a lot.
