What bike doesn't "look" like plastic these days? Looking like plastic and being plastic is two different things. One thing is for sure; the HD is the same bike with a different model name as the Sportster they produced 40 years ago. Very few improvements. Surely you must admit that. Now, if you want to talk about plastic, hav you looked at that ugly ass glitter paint HD is using these days? I would swear it is a draw back for the 70s. What HD needs to do is stop buying beer and start hiring a new mechanical and design engineer team. They need to change that "bad ass image" they are pushing and start pushing some bad ass bikes like the Indian Scout.
@apf143787 жыл бұрын
Like literally 50 years away more advanced, obviously. At 20k miles you will be doing the second oil change-revision in the scout. You will be doing the 4th one in the 883. It's not cheap to change the oils in the authorized hd dealer, is it? At least here it's more than 200€ every 5000 milles.

Okay as an employee to Indian Ducati and Harley Davidson I just have to say this since we've started renting the Indian Motorcycles they always come back at around 20,000 miles needing an adjustment or some type of computer glitch that needs to be resolved through a download free of cost of course but I would definitely stay away from the Indian Motorcycles it still carries the same curse as the original history shows that every company who has attempted to revive this motorcycle has failed working for EagleRider motorcycles who started renting the Indian Motorcycle put them through the test as customers came from all over the United States some of them were placed on these motorcycles due to the fact that Harley's had been rented out the customers were not happy but that's a whole other story these bikes always had some type of issue moving on to Ducati motorcycles were they also sold Indian a bunch of those came back every so often for a fob failure screen shutdowns or basic noise in the engine which is basically not basic so I would definitely recommend spending your money elsewhere I am a Harley Davidson Fanboy but I would prefer to have a Kawasaki a Honda or Yamaha the never touch an Indian motorcycle mechanically you have to make a wider turn to get those things around the corner it's like riding a chopper but anyway it's up to you good luck if you are reading this message you are part of the resistance

you are gonna get mixed comments. I bought my first bike last year and got the HD Iron 883 2016. I love it. Also you can upgrade. I had them put a V&H Short shot exhaust with the V&H grenade air intake with the 1200 conversation before I drove it off the lot. It doubled the tourque and HP. I see no problems with it making any destination with the upgrades a great first bike. I can't comment on the Indian I never rode one nor ever seen one on the road here in Wisconsin not saying there are none but I see mainly Harley's here. It all depends what you want and what you want to do. My bike was a lil over 9 thousand then with the upgrades I got about 15,000. This year I put about 3,000 in it with new mirrors, pegs, grips, led lights, seats, basically customizing it for me. It does get expensive. HD stands for a hundred dollars minimum lol. A couple of years ago I bought a 2010 883 XL with very low miles and about $1000 worth of upgrades on on it for $6000. Replaced the shocks with 12 in Progressives, the air intake with a Big Sucker, put Screaming Eagle mufflers on and bought a Power Vision to tune the EFI. I live on a winding coastal road and have never scraped doing 10-15 miles / hr over the speed limit in the corners. It is a fun ride for less than $7000 and for $800 more I can convert it into a 1250 cc Sportster with 70-75 lbs or so of torque. Don't sell the 883 short unless you routinely ride over 75 miles /hr.

As someone who has been searching for a solid affordable cruiser and someone who likes the small nimble platform of these bikes I've been weighing my options for a while but I gotta say the scout has a win for me. The engines make more power per cube in the midsize range and they sound better imo. I like the peanut tank but the rest of the Sportster looks nothing like a full size cruiser. I like the Indian because it has that timeless low look and more power I've ridden both and I felt more comfortable on the Indian and I really enjoyed it's cool factor, everyone is used to if not annoyed with the amount of Harleys and sport bikes on the road, the Indian always turns heads

@thunderroy248 жыл бұрын
I ask that to at a motorcycle shop and they said they can adjust suspension for your height but then again it was a street bike but bikes like the Indian sit pretty low so you shouldn't have that problem to reach the ground
@89Hols8 жыл бұрын
James Garza really just depends on what kind of bike you get. On a cruiser like one of these two, you'll have no problems getting both feet down. One of the reasons they scrape the pegs so quickly is that the manufacturers make them really low, so they're not intimidating to new riders. Sport bikes or off-road bikes, such as a dual sport, will be much taller. On those you would have to lean over to one side and just put one foot down. Any of the entry level cruisers would do well for you, just buy used for your first bike. That way if you lay it down while learning, you're not sad about wrecking a brand new bike.
@thorstenkochling47508 жыл бұрын
This site can give you an idea on how you fit on a given bike. It doesn't take into account suspension dive though, I think: cycle-ergo.com/ There is an option to toggle feet on/ off the ground. Good luck!

Might want to look at Victory's line. Unfortunately, they have a very different look which you may or may not like, but the seat height on there's seem to run 25-26", which might be more to your liking. Personally, I like the look of them and they're quite well balanced.

Chris L Thanks. I'm not too bummed on seat height as I am for footpeg position. Some bikes have forward controls I can reach (modified V-Star 250s for example) I can sit on a Scout, but I can't reach the pegs. Other bikes have huge air cleaner boxes that make it hard to reach the footbrake (HD Softail for example), which can I fix by swapping it with an aftermarket part.

There are relocation brackets for the pegs on the Scout to move them back and a seat that moves you forward also. It can be mad to fit you pretty easily.

What jacket is evans wearing?
@Skyerzen8 жыл бұрын
I agree. I like the scout better. I rode them both. And funny how everyone hates radiators. I LOVE radiators! and I love how the radiator is mounted on the Scout! And the "Primitive look" from Harleys to me is exactly what's wrong with them... they are too damn primitive! If they made a scout with higher foot controls (more clearance) and a proper monoshock rear suspension, I would buy one that same day.

With the Scout, you get more bike for the money. The Indian makes at least 20 more hp than the 883.

Camera work and editing on the point. Background music is just right, neither too loud(in most other videos) nor too low. 5 stat comparison.

Both very nice bikes but agree the aircooled Iron is just a bit sweeter looker.

Unfortunately, a very large segment of the homeless population is US military veterans. The comedian Ken Leslie has a GREAT organization helping them: www.1matters.org/

The Indians have the styling down so well, performance and reliability I would still say it goes to the Indian as well. The main problem imo with the Harley is that its a Harley, the reputation that comes with it as a rider isnt desirable tbh, thats why HD has been tryna reach a younger audience lately because they aren't seeing any new consumers.

Look the only thing you have to say is Harley-Davidson is better than Indian and point in everything it is much better faster more beautiful and the main advantage is Harley-Davidson

Anyone know if that 883 would be too short for me? I'm about 6'2 and 185 lbs
@dantribby58637 жыл бұрын
Harley should take notice of this. Time for the sporty to grow up. They have the street series now covering the entry level market. They should go to 1000cc instead of the 883. Keep the 1200. Make a larger affordable air cooled twin for the average joe. It would sell.

Here in Brazil, the price of one iron 883 is ridiculous. It's like R$23.000 kkkkkkkkkkk. We with one normal salary, would need to work almost 3 years to buy a bike like that!!!!
@glytch58 жыл бұрын
The scout has a bigger frame, more room and i'm not sure but I think its a bigger engine. Idk man, I am like most people out there, I love all motorcycles, but once you buy a Harley... one that you like other bikes just don't do it for you. Not everyone is that way but for the most part, once you go Harley you end up loyal to those bikes. If that 883 had some bigger bars, and nicer exhaust it would be hell of a lot nicer, they are small bikes though.

I'm an ex turbo Busa rider that ride 2016 H2 now and to me, Indian is just a sexy bike. I have 3 bikes in my garage now and in market for the 4th. the Indian just might be my 4th. Honda grom don't count as 5th, does it?

Looking to get my first bike next spring 2018. My dad just bought his new bike huge upgrade from his old. He got The Indian scout 2015. I'm defiantly liking Indians more and more I look into them. I'm also hearing and seeing that they last longer then Harleys and don't break down as much. I know a few guys that have Harley's and are always working on them not something I want to do is invest money getting a new bike just to have to work on it a lot. My biggest issue with thus video is The scraping of the pegs on them corners. I really don't want to be doing that when I get my bike. Other then that can't wait to start riding

Say what you will about a 883 but they are a absolute bulletproof motorcycle. You can’t kill a 883. Makes me miss the new one I bought as my first bike in 2003. I was 19 and had a better back than I do now lol. Mine was a bone stock XL883, didn’t even have forward controls. I think I paid 5800 bucks for it new at Boswell Harley Davidson in Nashville TN Are they fast or slow?? They are fast enough to get you killed!
@obfuscated30907 жыл бұрын
Worth considering if you are a gearhead is Sportster's enormous aftermarket support untouched by any other brand and only surpassed, slightly, by the enormous HD big twin aftermarket. The 883 displacement is for INSURANCE reasons and the engine itself is a 1200 with a smaller bore. The canonical Sporty info source is xlforum. Many people buy 883s then punch them out when the warranty expires. If you aren't into wrenching then the Polaris Indian is a better choice, but not everyone wants or needs the same motorcycle. Used, low mileage Sporties are plentiful so I strongly suggest going that route if it's an option.
@silentxsails40987 жыл бұрын
Hey fellas you mentioned how the displacement plays a big difference but I don't think you mentioned the actual displacement of the scout. 999cc if anyone's wondering lol
