LOL I do too! I like seeing why a book doesn't work for someone or why they decide to let a good book leave their shelves. Thanks for watching!

So interesting hearing your thoughts on babel, it’s such a popular book and I can’t decide if I should pick it up! But that would be the one I’m most surprised you’re unhauling
@gabbylikestoread7 ай бұрын
Definitely give it a try if you’re interested! It just wasn’t for me.

Yay for unhauling all those books. More space and reasons to buy more books. 😅 I know a few people who will gladly jump on the chance to own some of those books.

Whoa! You DNF'd _Rebecca_ after 20 pages?!?!?! Such a shame. It is NOT a romance; the story is about Rebecca, not really about The Heroine, or Maxim. But you liked _Jane Eyre_ with a domineering, severely entitled rich guy who is already married and wants a mistress, and a domineering, manipulative religious guy who only values Jane for the work she can do for him? Jane is awesome, but the romance(s) are extremely toxic! I am with you on _Babel_ . I thought the fantasy aspect was interesting. My problem with it is the characterization - ultra-stereotypical and predictable (and hence rather flat).

Yeah I think the subtitle of ‘romantic suspense’ was what threw me off. There was nothing romantic about it. I didn’t want to follow the heroine or Maxim. There was some intrigue around Rebecca and what happened to her but it wasn’t enough for me to continue because of my feelings toward the main characters. I enjoyed Jane Eyre because of the strength of Jane’s character development. I loved that she stuck to her principles no matter what. I may give Rebecca another chance but I’ll get it from the library. Yea the character development in Babel was FLAT AS A CREPE and very stereotypical. I heard that I shouldn’t read Poppy War because it’s more of the same. 🤷🏾♀️
