I am sorry to disagree a little. The concept of the Great Britain rail tours was pure steam haulage round Britain for a week. Now it is a steam engine fronting the train irrespective of its ability to practically haul the train as a diesel is always provided at the back to push the train. The photography is always good no quibbles about that aspect.

The diesel was there primarily to provide power to the coaches. It's not for pushing the the train constantly, if it did, it was only for a short section. For the leg over the Heart of Wales Line, they left the diesel behind, because it was out of gauge for the route. The batteries on the coaches lasted the journey, before being plugged back into the diesel in Swansea. This year's trip was the best they could do under the circumstances and was a steam hauled trip round the UK.
