The Genesis/Mega Drive does have a max display of 320x224 but most games were developed in 256x224 and the SNES had a default of 256X224 but it had programmable display which allowed it up to 512x239 Progressive (239P) or 512x478 Interlaced (478i) That is why you could run two displays on the SNES simultaneously but couldn't on the Genesis/Mega Drive. nintendo.wikia.com/wiki/Super_Nintendo_Entertainment_System nintendo.wikia.com/wiki/Super_Nintendo_Entertainment_System

This is a game where the Genesis (designed to compete with the NES) really shows its power in comparison to the younger SNES. Yes, there aren't transparancies and the Genesis soundchip may not be optimal for the sound design of this game, but it looks just as nice (sometimes the colours even 'pop' better on the Genesis), plays just as well, and it has more vertical screen space.

It is true there were a few 16bit PCs out in Japan when the Mega Drive debuted, most notably the very expensive Sharp X68000 PC. But that is it; the (Super-)Famicon, PC Engine, Genesis type systems are going after the near-bottom end of the video-gaming market. When the Genesis came out, its nearest competitors were 8-bit, including the PC-Engine. It was designed to create a clear contrast in performance to them. A company can have more than one entry in market; no need to think linearly. But whatever you say, you cannot overlook the fact that the Genesis came out October 29, 1988 in Japan, and the Super Famicon November 21, 1990. The latter was designed to outperform the former, and not the other way around. That the Super Famicon could outperform the Mega Drive/Genesis in many areas is clear; but the fact is that clever coders and designers sometimes took advantage of what Mega Drive/Genesis did offer - most notably its faster chip - to surpass similar offerings from Nintendo.

Apparently, this is the only "Disney's Magical Quest" game for the Genesis/Mega Drive. The Super Nintendo has all three games in the trilogy, while the Genesis/Mega Drive only has one. The problem with the Genesis/Mega Drive version is the limited use of buttons. The Genesis/Mega Drive version is best played with the 6-button controller instead of a 3-button controller. The Super Nintendo version however has 4 buttons, 2 shoulder buttons, and a Start and Select button. That makes 8 buttons. On my word, the Genesis/Mega Drive version is good, but the Super Nintendo version is great in terms of sound, graphics and the controls. This game also has a remake for the GameBoy Advance as well as the other two games in the series. Most likely, the third game is only released exclusively for the Super Famicom in Japan. And not to mention, the Super Nintendo version has (a few) more levels than the Genesis/Mega Drive version.

The Mega Drive was also going to receive the first game in the trilogy, The Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse. It was even showed in showed in Winter CES 1994, but nothing ever came out of it. My guess is that they were developing the game and maybe even completed it, but the timeframe for the Mega Drive version release was already too late (it should have come out at least one year before) and they skipped it in favour of timing the release of its sequel together with the SNES version. I still hope that any prototype of the Mega Drive version may have survived and could still appear somehow someday.

Look, the only thing that looks objectively and measurably worse on SNES that I can see is the HUD that visibly uses less colours than on Genesis and not quite enough to hide the colour limitation there, which is a minor and personal bugbear of mine that most people won't even care about. But there's a few things that clearly look better on SNES due to the fact it has proper transparency and more colours, such as the water for example (even though I do personally prefer the particular hue of the Genesis version, but definitely not the effect itself), or anywhere smoke is used, or the reflections in mirrors, or just most of the game looking a tiny bit more visually advanced because it's using more colours throughout that allows the artists to get all the little details and stuff closer to their original vision rather than having to work within the Genesis more restricting colour palette.

By the way, I have no idea why SNES games regularly do this when the system has exactly the same vertical resolution as the Genesis. I can understand when Genesis games show more of a game's level on the horizontal axis (to the left and right), because it has more horizontal resolution, but not vertically. It's possible this is in fact a way to get around the slower CPU on the SNES sometimes by drawing a few less lines vertically, since it's not all games and varies from game to game. But a game like Rendering Ranger R2 shows you can have technically astounding games with loads of layers and enemies and explosions and so on with no borders, and not slowdown either for that matter. @@StaticTV80 "All games play a bit faster and smoother on the Genesis because of the faster processing power. " This is not a fact in the slightest. There are plenty of games that run at the standard/max 60fps on both systems, and having a faster processor is irrelevant if the games have already achieved a consistent 60fps, which many games do on SNES, so your statement is just gibberish. Now, it is true that it is more likely for SNES games to sometimes suffer slowdown if they aren't optimized properly, but that's why developers often made smart decisions to make games that played to its strengths and avoided its weaknesses (such as potential slowdown), just as they made the same decisions to make Genesis games that played to its strengths and avoided its weaknesses (such as lack of colours, limited background layers, no proper transparency, more limited sound, etc). Both systems have their strengths and weakness, but, if we're going to get really serious about it for a moment, the SNES has the superior games library by any measurable standards outside of your personal opinion (such as their continued critical acclaim and appearance on Best Games of All Time charts to this day). Here are some examples: www.pcworld.idg.com.au/slideshow/317712/10-best-16-bit-games-ever/ (majority SNES games) Or www.ign.com/lists/top-100-games (count how many SNES games are on there vs Genesis games) Or www.popularmechanics.com/culture/gaming/g134/the-100-greatest-video-games-of-all-time/?slide=100 (again, count the number of SNES games vs Genesis) Or www.polygon.com/features/2017/12/1/16707720/the-500-best-games-of-all-time-100-1 (how many SNES vs Genesis do you see in the Top 100 there) Or gamicus.gamepedia.com/List_of_video_games_considered_the_best (how many SNES games do you see on that list vs Genesis games) Look, the SNES outsold the Genesis in the '90s, the SNES Classic Edition outsold the Genesis Mini in modern times, the SNES controller design had every feature that is still standard in pretty much all controllers to date (the iconic and patented and still best-in-class Nintendo d-pad, the diamond shape 4 face buttons, the shoulder buttons, the dual Start and Select buttons or modern equivalent), and the SNES library has clearly stood the test of time better than the Genesis library. The GBA version is a port of the SNES version, the only difference it has other than GBA sound/resolution is that it has a save system.

@dinosaursfor47094 жыл бұрын
Vai de gosto, eu já acho essas cores suaves e desbotadas da versão Snes piores.

Why is the SNES version showing with black borders when both the SNES and Genesis have the same vertical resolution in hardware? And why is the SNES version running with a resolution lower than it's native 256×224 resolution here?

São bem parecidas. O SNES levava vantagem nas cores e no áudio, óbvio.

It's a poor game by Dysney standards. Nor is it a Capcom specialty. Super Nes has an additional stage using the Mode 7 effect with top-view and spin, Pilot Wings style, very difficult to play in Genesis, despite similar effects used in the Sonic game. But the SEGA version surpassed in the linear scroll effect screens 40:55 "water, fire" "Shadow of the Beast, Shadow Dancer". This is worth the speed of the processor. At 42:51 Sega does not play Mode 7 and the amount plans to incorporate objects transmit flaws in the game's sprites. Nintendo wins by the few more effects, despite the same gameplay.
