I absolutely adore my Dane. I belong to a Great Dane rescue organisation and it's so sad how many Danes are abondoned between 8 months and 18 months old. They are huge balls of puppy still and people can't cope with an 80kg bounding pup, so they abandon them! Before you own a Dane you have to know the following 1. Some drool terribly and when they shake their heads it's like spaghetti being flung all over the walls, furniture and you 2. They are NOT outdoor dogs. They develop all sorts of strange psychological dysfunctions if they are not 100% a part of the family. It's cruel to force them to sleep outside. End of! 3. They zoom around, crash into things, leap onto your bed and couches, and can do damage unintentionally because they are huge. Imagine a playful puppy at 80kgs. That's what you get until they approach 2 years of age. 4. Little children are at risk of being accidentally injured but the sheer size and playfulness of these dogs. 5. They lean and sit on you all the time. I love it. If you can't accept any of the above, please DO NOT get a Great Dane. They are sensitive dogs who are deeply upset by neglect or rehoming.

Nikki D I once saw a young Great Dane actually jumping twice his height repeatedly at the vets office. He was trying to see over the raised reception counter. He looked like he was on a trampoline! Until then I had no idea they were so active. I’ve always admired the breed.

Honestly once you get a dane you can't go back. They are the sweetest, goofiest, dogs. Mine doesn't slobber much at all, but she loves to sit on your lap and on her chair. Wonderful dogs.

@@puffcatco ye if someone raises their voice my dane will go hide somewhere, they are very sensitive in that sense. Mine isn't too jumpy with visitors but she does like to lick ppls faces but she usually calms down super quickly. I've seen other danes that are super jumpy tho. It depends on the training and age.

Just rescued a 4 yr old male harlequin ,very abused ,neglected,not house trained kennel kept ,for studding ... ,cysts all over ..but he's such a beautiful boy ..I just bought him for a well needed grooming ,now awaiting his vet appointment... what a loving boy :)

I have raised Danes for years and they are simply amazing. I also lost one to Cardio Myopathy at 5 years old and its heartbreaking. Jilly is clearly a great mum, great to see these marvelous dogs in such a loving home.

I am dying, I grew up with a Great Dane that looked just like this!😍😍😍😍She was my friend, I would dress her up & put makeup on her, she actually loved it SO much she would strut around afterwards! I am sending this video to my mom, she will cry. That tale broke many things in our house, haha! Her name was Dane!! Our Dane lived to 11.

They are so gentle, especially with children. My mom and dad were very busy, a great dane practically raised me during the day. I am told she would walk with me around the house and watch that I don´t do anything dangerous. We later had another Great Dane called Athena, a dog from an actual breeding kennel and she was the most regal dog I have seen! Her posture just emitted confidence and strength. One thing that Great Dane owners can probably confirm is a really annoying part of having a great dane is people´s comments about them. I was told many times, ofter aggressively, to put a muzzle on my dane. Totally unnecessary, they will NEVER harm anyone. Funny thing is, I was often told that while walking with a friend who had a freaking amstaff, and nobody mentioned it about his dog! Like come on, get serious people!!! Also keep in mind, you have to be freakishly strong to walk these puppers around, sometimes they will just feel the need to run with you attached to them. Ofter there is not much you can do but hold on for dear life. They will break leashes, I don´t care how strong the leash is. You might think that you are walking the dog and not the other way around, but they know better and so should you ;)

Ok, here's the deal. While the Great Dane is NOT the tallest breed of dog, the tallest dog on record is a Great Dane named Giant George. According to the AKC the tallest breed of dog is the Irish Wolfhound. Hope this helps.

Yeah the AKC and such always maintain that Wolfhounds are the tallest breed yet Great Danes have always held the records all the way back to Shamgret Danzas in the 70's

We rescued a lovely girl who is half Greyhound and half Great Dane. She has legs up to her neck and is a sweet girl. Our Sheltie mix is the Alpha. It is rather funny at times. Love your videos!

Thank you for this complete owner's point of view on this majestic breed. Very informative. We're from and in Panama, Central America. We have just welcomed into the family 2 male Great Dane pups a few days ago and trying to learn as much as possible. We already have a female pug who has blessed us with so much love throughout over 10 years, and 2 yellow Lab retrievers siblings which unfortunately recently passed away due to distemper; we weren't able to find a cure for the disease, they where so very young and still pups. The oldest was slightly over a year old and the other 3 months old, this crushed us.

Enjoyed this video- I rescued my boy at 2 years old. He is so loving and is so loved too. I feed lots of fish- mackerel- tuna- salmon - and white fish. Eggs and cucumber goes in the bowl too. That oily fish is so good for the joints and he loves it. Kale and broccoli mixed in with chicken mince- lambs hearts( oven roasted) smells like beef to me- he will barge anybody out of the way to get to his dinner bowl. Absolutely no health issues thus far - just keep them content and give lots of love- they won’t chew your house up then! That’s my experience so far

Great Danes can make wonderful companions but they are high, high maintenance, are prone to several diseases and usually live very short lives. Theirs is one of the cases where breeders should actually try to modify their standard to obtain a dog who is just as lovely but more healthy.

My cousin has a great Dane and he is so cool. I must admit I'm a tad bit intimidated by his height as I've only been around small to medium dogs, and his bark scares me for how loud and deep it is, but I'm trying to get used to him as it's only been a day I've been around him. He's very well trained and an absolute sweetheart. His ear is bigger than my hand!!

My friends had 2 of these. Such gentle giants. They always came at you, even jumped at you. I never got bitten in the neck. But i've always got pinned to the ground, got my face liked, and got slobbered on endlessly . But i got loved endlessly, just for being there and being nice to them.

I have a LabraDane. She looks like a Lab. She has the Dane eyes, long Dane legs, and the thin fur coat of a Dane. I adopted her when she was 3. I have had her a year and 5 months. She loves to play. She thinks she is a lap dog. She is very laid back. I love her so much. 🐾🐾🐾

These danes look more "European" danes compared to "American" danes. I have a European dane and they are stockier, blockier head, thicker chest. They are not as tall and thin as "American" danes. Euro's look more "mastiffy."

yes, greatdanes are beautiful dogs i went to a dogpart with my lab not too long ago the dog had to be about twice her size and was only 6 months! you could only imagine the size!

Raised bowls increase the risk of bloat significantly. Also fewer meals increase the risk. Smaller, frequent meals on the floor essentially reduce the risk to the lowest level.

My Great Dane, Mongo, is about to turn 11 years old. Unfortunately, He's starting to have trouble and is nearly blind. He's still a sweetheart and we've relished the time we've had with him. He seems to be adapting to the loss in eyesight and is still a joy to have around.

reminds me the dog of my German exchange pal : I was massive and he loved to "answer" (well.. bark) to this question "wie spricht ein hund ?". funny ! I remember one night this Dane was sick... oh my.. what a nightmare. This dog finally died of an heart attack.. Big dog... but fragile dogs with a short lifespan ..... thankfully, Danes are friendly dogs....

the irish wolfhound on average is taller than the dane, but when you get a "big boy" Dane thay do take the records, and can be taller the wolfhound. but like i said that is not your average dane

This was nice. Good job. Very informative. I just wish you had gone with someone who is an authority on Great Danes. May I suggest you do a follow-up on Great Danes. But this time include puppies and a bunch of 6 or 8 month old Danes. People need to see what they are like at these ages. One person you can reach out to is Jill Swedlow. She has written several books on Great Danes. She has owned Danes for over 30 years. She knows Great Danes and she can provide real live opportunities for the filming of puppies and even the other colors Danes come in. Showing full grown Harlequin Danes and Mantle Danes is nice but people need to literally see what they are like as they are growing up. Film what Danes are like at 6 or 8 months! And also film what they are like when they are senior dogs. I hope you will consider my suggestion because this breed needs nothing but the truth to be told. Love watching your videos. 💕😃

I have one, she is now coming to the end of her life shes about 8 now. But she is amazing. So loving and mellow. Just the best play mate and sleep mate. And she luckily didnt slober or chew much at all. They are the best

Well now they can live anywhere from 10-16 years. It really depends on if they are well bred.

I hada great dane Dalmation mix growing up who was best friends with a cocker Spaniel , he was my guard dog when I was a little kid. Sweetest dog you could ever meet.

We’ve always had Great Danes and currently have 3 of them. All of them lived beyond the age of 10 and one was almost 13 ... with proper care , correct food and exercise one can give them a really long life. Also it’s not true that they are always clumsy and knock things over... it really depends on the dogs character but also the training. We have antiques all over the house like fragile statues and antique furniture . They have never thatches it and very very self moly break something - less than me that’s for sure... but why? Because they have a whole room filled with toys they play with and even carry them around in the mouth when walking about the house.
