First, I want to thank Charlie Chaplin for his magnificent performance here, his mimic and gestures are simply overwhelming. I want to thank everyone who was involved in creating this movie, and especially this timeless, brilliant and heartrending final speech (70 years ago!).
Second, I want to thank Hans Zimmer for this beautiful and epic song. A song that brings tears to my eyes and a smile on my face at the same time, everytime I listen to it.
Finally, I am thankful for the very moment I had the idea to combine these two masterpieces of art. Together they conjure hope to my mind, courage to my heart.
There are no cuts. Speech and song just fit great together. I only decreased the volume of the music a bit in the later parts so it does not cover the speech that much, as some of you noted.
My favorite moment is at ~2:30, the camera zooms on Chaplin's face... "... but in all men, in you! You, the people have the power! The power to create machines, the power to create happiness! You, the people have the power, to make this life free and beatiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure! ..."
Inconceivably awesome. I love it.
Thanks a lot for the comments and inputs of the old (out-of-sync) version & enjoy the new one!

The best speech in recorded history. Charlie should be considered up there with Martin Luther King Jr, JFK, and such... Just because it's a film doesn't mean you can use that stage in the way they did. Amazing words, words that will live forever!

Except he never really did anything except comedy and a really nice speech. Sure it's a good speech, and he was a good comedian and probably a good person. But he was never really a martyr for social rights or peace. I don't mean this is as a bad thing, he's just simply not that kind of person.

Im not at all kidding when I say that I literally shed tears each time I watch this video. It fills me with anger and an awe that this line was spoken 70+ years ago by a man who spent most of his career silent. Yet, in this film he uses his voice to deliver, in my opinion, the greatest line in all of cinema. Its as true today as it was then, if not more so. You can easily substitute "airplane" and "radio" with "cell phone" and "internet". If that were a real man today, I'd follow him anywhere.

When my dad was much younger, he asked his mother about this movie. I forgot which. She could recite every single line from this speech word for word without a moment of hesitation. The amazing thing about this speech isn't how touching it is or how soul wrenching it is. It's how this speech has stayed relevant over the years. His words, as true as they were then, have become even more true now. His words are not immortal because of how powerful they are. It's how timeless they are.

This speech is amazing. Not only is it well written and heartfelt, it's real. The things he says are 100% true to today. Greed is what causes all of this. It's very sad. We have the power do something about it, but nobody cares. We have made attempts to show people what is wrong, but no one listens. I wish people would listen and understand what's going on. We live in a world full of hate, war, racism, and so much more. It needs to change. And it needs to change soon.

The pure emotion and power SURGING from this video, it simply cannot be outdone. The words, the eyes and tone... Actors of our time cannot pull off this passion... This pure lust for what they do. This man was, is, and will always be an icon not only among actors and directors, but among every living being who's heard his name or seen his face. This man can and will change lives, decades after his time. What am I saying? centuries after his time.

It's been a long time since I heard a speech so full of life, kindness and love. That's not a man acting, that's a man desperate for his words to reach the whole world, that's a man who cared for the future of his children and the future of mankid. That's a man. Sad, that this kind of man is now virtually gone. We have truly become cattle, we have become machine men, we don't feel -and what's worst- we don't even think. Let this speech remind us all that we can be better, we can be greater.

I start to cry every time I watch this. It's passionate and thoughtful, and the music stirs the soul, but the sentiment itself...the thoughts expressed...are so simple; it's common sense. And it absolutely breaks my heart when I think of it, because I know that mankind will never achieve the kind of earnest goodwill that's crying out from our hearts every day. It flies in the face of our selfish human nature - a nature the progression of civil society demands we deny, but can we ever, truly?
