They did a remarkable job with the party scene, I think that's exactually what Fitzgerald pictured when he wrote that scene.

Eowyn of Rohan I had a thought about this, what if to them they're hearing 20's music, but we hear it as modern music because the director wanted us to feel like we were there and be able to relate to it easier.

I would really like to see this movie but the bad hip hop music ruined it for me! WTF? Use music that was actually played during the 1920s!

it was a creative decision. they needed it to feel more lively like a broadway film so jay z helped produce the music and many artists were asked to sing songs that were modern but had 1920's jazz influence.
