Spot on John, a Superb lineup of Sir Nigel’s A4 Streaks, just a shame we only have the one currently running on the mainline, regards nige 👍

Nige, I believe 'Bittern' is scheduled for an overhaul so double headed A4 might be a possibility. Regards, John

Dwight D. Eisenhower is in good company as it is next to UP 4017 4-8-8-4 Big Boy at the Greenbay Railroad Museum in Wisconson. Well worth a visit.

I used to go to the East Coast mainline trainspotting in the 1950’s & 60’s at Hitchen & to see these locos. running through there in either direction at speeds approaching 100 m.p.h. is an unforgettable sight. I visited again when l was in the U.K. in 2002 & saw only electrics & deisels ,underwhelming!

I lived at Kings Cross in that period and never saw one at speed I did however get a ride on the footplate up the platform on one.

@@GreatBritishRailways1 l saw the whole class there at one time or another over the years. 60009 worked RCTS ‘Jubilee Requium’ special on 24-10-1965. The last A4 out of Kings Cross,it was thought at the time.l photographed it at Hitchen South,a sad day.

An effort should be made to ensure that at least two of these milestones of engineering are kept running even if it's only in limited form

We’ve got 60007 sir Nigel gresley which is one of the A4s that’s already come back on the mainline 60009 union of South Africa is already withdrawn from service As for 60019 bittern there some good news work is now underway to get bittern return to the mainline 4468 Mallard the speed record holder is no longer got a valid certificate of its boiler And now it’s on display in York with no speculations about what’s going to happen to this engine for the 100th anniversary of its world record As for 60010 dominion of Canada and 60008 Dwight d Eisenhower they are now back in North America which they reside since moved here by British railways
