You really did not include any monarchs from medieval Europe's most important state, the Byzantine Empire? Come on dude, it lasted 1,123 years, had 94 emperors, and for centuries its capital was the greatest city in the World, and de facto capital of the Christian World. How can you not include not even one Byzantine Emperor, like Basil II the Bulgar-Slayer?

Cool video, but the painting at 3:39 actually depicts the arrival of the Croats to the Adriatic, not Alfred the great

Alfred The Great and the Saxons are particularly interesting i think. Not only were Alfred and his two immediate successors brilliant kings but there were other great Saxon rulers like Edgar The Peaceful and even Alfred's own father was a capable king. I find this period in English history gets overlooked. Nice video.

oh, you re ascendents are from madeira? I am from madeira. My father is actually a huge geneology geek and he has info on almost if not all family trees in madeira. He even discovered through some old records that our family, although recently all from madeira, comes from a family of italian corsairs that used to patrol the island for the king in the 16th century. If you re ever interested i can help you bro. Plus my grandmother, my father's mother was a history teacher so i guess interest in history runs in our bloog ahaha great vid btw

I don’t know in what world Henry II of England or Roger II of Sicily don’t make it on the list yet Richard the Lionheart does but it’s certainly not the real world.

Not really a video favorable to France though: - They consider Charlemagne founded the HRE, while a lot of historians consider the Carolingian empire very distinct. - That Normandy was an "ex-Viking colony". - They say that Richard Lionheart didn't spend a lot of time in England because "he was in foreign lands during the 3rd crusade". While he actually spent most of his reign in France, which wasn't "foreign lands" for him (less than England at least, he definitely didn't feel British).

Vlad Dracule and Stephen the great were the smallest kings to have the biggest marks on history. If going by per capita or percentage relative to size-success and achievements those two rank at the very top.

So Henry V his defiance must've been what inspired his frat boy likeness in the beginning of The King. All this medieval war talk against Islamic, is there any that shows their side of the story?

Richard the Lionheart spent most of his reign in France, not really just "crusading", and he definitely didn't feel British, France wasn't foreign lands for him, it was home. Also, considering the Carolingian empire and the HRE to be the same thing, is very debattable, to say the least.

Charlemagne’s definitely the favorite. Think Otto d great 👍 also deserves a place. Like the way even conquerors like Willy need a claim regardless of how dubious 🤨 they may seem. But Willy still sounds better than Henry 7. Would be cool if Richard bought a t shirt 👚 from Jerusalem saying ‘all I got was this lousy….’

They only became great European rulers with the conquest of Constantiopel 1453, meaning right with the end of the Middle Ages. Different years are counted as this ending, in western Europe mostly 1492 or 1521 but in the east most historians take the rise of the Ottoman dynasty as the pardigm shift that signaled the end of medieval times.
