Hey bro, I’m in Rush City. The one who bought the Catalina 25 at eddy’s. If there’s anything I can do to help up here let me know we could meet up.

I've been in the ocean. I've been all the way across the Atlantic. I've even spent a few years living on that model of boat, although it was a fixed keel. Could sailing across the Gulf of Mexico be done in one? Yes, it could. Might be easy, nice weather no problem at all. But it could also be dangerous as hell. You had a pretty wonderful adventure with what you did already. Nothing to sneeze at. I'd like to do it myself some day. But open water is a different thing altogether. That boat isn't ready for something like that. If you do decide to do it I have two recommendations, humbly. Lose the engine and hang an outboard. Glass over the hole in the hull. Lose the wheel steering and get a tiller with a tiller pilot. If that setup has sentimental value to you keep the parts for sure. In the Gulf you are out there on your own. Can't swim to shore. Too deep to throw an anchor. Nobody around to help most likely. It's not something to take lightly. Spend more time sailing, learn to heave to. Make that thing so watertight you could turn it upside down and it wouldn't leak. I hope you do it someday. Safely.

Most definitely agree with you a coastal cruise is a coastal cruiser. The plan if trip continues is for a combination of the intercoastal and gulf coast sailing depending on weather. The big jumps will be from carrablle to steinhatchee. And then two down In the keys. Weather will be watched very closely. Before I came back up to Minnesota a friend of mine took a oday 25 from mobile bay to Tampa go caught in the weather his wife and kids had to be taken off by coast gaurd helicopter He stayed with the boat and had to do 30 hrs solo to not loose the boat with 15 foot waves and 50 mphs winds he got the boat back. But Looked like he aged 10 years in 2 days.

@@AdventuresInLiving Odays are notoriously tippy. There's a thing called a "capsize ratio". Anything over a 2 is bad. Catalina 25's are less than 2, Odays are over 2. Look up Sam Holmes sailing here on utube. He's got cool vids on solo sailing. One is on the keys. If nothing else they are fun to watch. He sailed to Hawaii from California in a 23 foot piece of shit, then bought a 28 foot Cape dory and sailed across the Atlantic. Probably some tips and tricks that could be had. You'll be able to do it someday. But it doesn't need to be a deathwish.
