Got a courtesy inspection from the Coast Guard Auxiliary once. They failed me because I did not have an overboard discharge sticker on a 23 foot boat with no through hull and a porta potty, which was a mistake on their part. Toward the end of the inspection I was of course tired of nonsense and was asked if I had any boater safety courses in my lifetime. So I said to him, does 8 years in the United States Navy count? He got really grumpy and left my boat.

I am a ex coastguard back in the day when we were allowed to salvage a personal boat before the thieving salvage company’s. We were respectful to the safety of the boaters and we did boardings only in safe waters. We had to beach our sailboat a few years ago because of a thru hull problems and were taken on water faster than we could pump we called the Coast Guard to advise them of our situation not for aid and all they were interested in was were we discharging any oil and were we doing harm to the sea grass didn’t even ask if we were ok thank goodness for the pirates at SeaTow and the fact that we had coverage. Kinda put a bad taste in my mouth but I for the most part am glad they are there.

Horrifying?? Really? The southern border is horrifying..
@kbc18832 ай бұрын
@@robertbraun7155 Yes, both can be true! They are very similar: one is on the macro level and one on the micro level. Our founding fathers were cognizant of the need for both and went to great lengths to preserve those through the Constitution and our current government is working to erode those protections. Our Fourth Amendment rights to be secure in our property and particularly in our homes is one of the very most basic and necessary rights. When the castle doctrine is not an option on the water and the government can come into your home at any time, for any reason, you have no privacy or protection in what should be your most protected space. That is why the laws about RVs are different than for cars, for instance. Without that protection of their home space, a citizen is entirely exposed to governmental intrusion. Likewise, the border situation renders us entirely exposed in our home country. Both the “borders” of our individual homes and the borders of our collective home should be maintained by law and respected by the government.

I grew up as a Coast Guard brat. My father served over 30 years. We talked a lot about the CG before he passed in 2000 but even then he disliked how they were being weaponized against everyday civilians. We had a couple bad run ins with them bass fishing doing nothing wrong and being respectful,both times were arrogant females with a chip on their shoulder. It has left a bad taste in my mouth and though I respect the Coast Guard,I have lost respect for them on our local waterways as they are basically revenuers.
@adamtedder10122 ай бұрын
Unfortunately the females feel they have to go over the top in the male dominated field and dealing with men in the public. I have consistently said women should not be in law enforcement especially since the majority of violent criminals are men and the majority of even athletic women cannot match the power of the average male especially one with violent intent. They are in the job for optics not for public safety.

@CatolinaGuy Yes. They have become water traffic cops. I had one "revenue collection" run in with them 20 years ago and one is enough.... I avoid them like the plague while on the water as they are not my friends. The boat in the video seems to be their standard small boat. If I see that boat in the vicinity. I go the other way and they are not going to be able to harass me since I can go 60 mph. I also boat in remote areas and they are nowhere to be found. .If I need assistance, I have membership with a tow boat company. Besides, the CG is not in the towing business so they are little use to me.

At least when the FAA stops you in a ramp check, you can tell them "no, not at this time and place". They are not permitted to impede your flight. You will, however, have to submit to inspection at another time and place when they request that. They rarely do, though. A good tell is when tower hands you over to ground, and ground asks you to call the tower on a land line or cell phone after you park on the ramp (tarmac). The dreaded request......

Therefore, boaters were supposed to have life jackets in their dinghies. One day the CG was checking dinghies. They didn't stop people, they just cruised by in their dinghy and held up a life jacket as a signal for us to show them ours. We held up our two life jackets plus the doggie life jacket for our dog, Mate, who was in the dinghy with us. They got a good laugh out of that and gave us a thumbs up!

And this just on the heels of learning from several newly ticketed neighbors who have been victims of our new SPEED cameras on our main drag in Salem. Cited for 5mph over. What would we do without all of these agencies watching our every move? You did great Brenton and Wavey.

I am glad to see that almost all comments are positive. People are quick to criticize authority figures now days. My Father was a retired Coastie. Lost him two years ago on memorial weekend. He was always very proud to have been in the Coast Guard. I have always been proud to say he was in our coast guard. He was on the USCGC Bering Strait and also the USCGC Gresham.. When I was a kid we lived in Redwood City and we had a 20ft. Bayliner. We would launch out of Redwood shores and head out North under the bay Bridge the pass Alcatraz and then under the Golden Gate. Anyone that knows anything about boats would know 20ft isn't ideal for the waters we would do our daytrips in. But he would just ride perfect in the trough of the afternoon waves matching speed.. I miss him and his story's as kid and also as an adult. Man of few words but would do anything for anyone. Sorry long Comment but I figured in today's world there would be nothing but negative comments about their boarding in this video.

Having been brought up on the water and spent many hours on the water I can tell you that about fifty percent of the people who are out there have no business even owning a rubber ducky for their bathtub much less a full-sized watercraft. Drug runners and drunks would love it if the Coast Guard had to have a warrant to come on board.

Back in the 90s my friends and I used to go out in the Delaware River at night. I had a 32ft Sea Skif. We were boarded. I mean harassed repeatedly almost every single night. We were anchored and just fishing. And sometimes pulled over while on our way to our fishing hole. I guess they just had to justify their existence. On multiple occasions they literally pulled up the engine compartment hatches. They said that they were checking for spark arrestors on the carburetors. And fire suppression systems. Even though this boat was built-in 1965. like they were treating me as if I was cruising off of the coast of Florida bringing drugs into the country. Enjoy your freedom?

Get a USCG inspection next time you get to Port they will give you a sticker to put near your Reg #s when the look at that if the USCG inspection sticker is up to date they usually leave you alone. They can look the inspection up in the system. With that warning there going to keep hitting you up, untill they see you fixed it in the system. If you get a lifering it also must have the vessel name on it.. so get a life sling its smaller more compact and does not require that, just don't unpack it or you will never get the painter line back in right LMFAO

You forgot about the Patriot Act, and, at least in Canada, Public Health Act... yes, during "health related emergency" (read Covid) public health official was allowed in any residence - and, if you protested, cops would came as well to "keep peace". You've been bamboozled long time ago.

Buy a brand new life ring, or two, stencil your name on it with port of registry underneath, hang it in full visibility on the back and/or front of the house and you will not only have a necessary piece of emergency equipment, it may even keep the Coasties from boarding you. But generally, the boarding party is not the ones who ordered it.

Where I got my "water wings" on the Chesapeake over 30 yrs. ago, the USCG are always present and checking. Yeah, a lot of time they are just breaking in new recruits,, but I was always happy to oblige. They are just doing their job. If you boat on potentially dangerous waters, and do not understand your responsibilities as a captain, then you need to go back to your rowboat on the duck pond. Also, when you have an outgoing tide, and 7 1/2 footers at your bow and are taking on water, remember that the "kid" that may have dinged you for outdated flares could be answering your mayday call for help. And, he will not give up until you are safe. Just my $.02
