Howdy! Fellow adventurers. In this episode, Wavey and I finally reach Mobile Bay. The Tombigbee waterway is a long and wild part of the Great Loop...I hope we show you a little of its essence.
Wavey's Treat Link

Bobby's Fish Camp Video.
Context: We've been told by many people over the years, "Stop at Bobby's Fish Camp..." so we finally did. We did what we always do, stretch our legs, look around, take pictures and video of interesting stuff. 20 minutes later, we called the number on the door to buy some gas. This is when (don't know his name, don't care) comes barreling down the hill on his side-by-side
"Quit fiddle-fucking around and get your gas!" (his words) still not completely repelled from the place, I asked, "How much is it a gallon?" His reply, "I don't know!" then proceeded up the hill. This is more/less where the video starts. I've been told that Bobby's daughter inherited the place, and they really don't want to run it anymore. His crap insta-attitude was probably from watching Wavey and I on cameras while he had Duck Dynasty reruns to watch. The days of Bobby's Fish Camp as a must stop for loopers I'm sorry to say are over. You've been warned.

13 ft of water right in that bend is prime cat fishing opportunities. We need to talk catfishing Captain. Hehe. Get you a cut bream or piece of raw chicken and put it on a #6 circle hook. It will set itself. Use a 30 pound mono leader (about 12 inches) and a 4 oz flat slip weight above a strong barrel swivel. A basic Carolina rig on steroids! Finally attach a bell to your rod (or limb line) and go nap with the beagle. When the dinner bell rings, dinner is served!!! Thanks as always. I'm always happy when you post Brenton. Hi Breton, very interesting episode, can't believe how much debris is floating, makes navigation tough. That gentleman that took you to the gas station is a true southern Alabama person. Me and Julie are doing really well, the current has been very strong, so we have been averaging 9.2 knots at about 50 % power. Hard to believe a little 9.9 hp can push a 29 foot boat that fast. We luck out when we entered Kentucky Lake, the wind was in our favor blowing at 15 knots, so we put the sails up and sailed the whole distance across the lake and then some. We averaged about 15.8 knots and reached 19.7 knots on a few occasions crossing the lake. We sure have had a lot of folks taking pictures of this boat and asking lots of questions about her. Even most of the lock master were filming us and asking questions about her. I guess no one has traveled down the waterway in a Corsair 880 Sport Trimaran......

Brenton, those gas logistics in Mobile looked to be a very tough haul. About that Hospital Ship Comfort; that was the ship that President Trump sent up to New York City to tend to the very ill citizens suffering from Covid back in 2020. It didn't stay long as Cuomo, the governor of NY, didn't take advantage of that ship's services; instead sending many of the ill into nursing homes & promptly helped spread the virus to residents and staff not equipped to deal with such a viral thing like that. All the best to you and Wavey on your grand tour!

I often wondered about the ability to pass under bridges when the river is higher than normal. Nice you were at a bridge that could be lifted.
@backwatersandbackroads
@backwatersandbackroads Ай бұрын
Hi Linda, I'd say most of the bridges are able to lift or swivel for that reason. Fixed bridges are very high for sailboats to get under also. The old trestle on my river back home is an odd one because it's fixed ans low. The barge just barely gets usber it. We're talking inches.

My husband and I have been watching your videos for a few weeks now and have caught up with all the current Great Loop. We have very much been enjoying them, we live outside of Winona, MN and and like to boat on the Mississippi in this area, so it was great to see your thoughts and video of Winona, Fountain city and LaCrosse, WI. We have a McGregor Motor/Sailboat that we camp on here in MN and many times in Florida over Christmas break with our sons when they were younger. Anyways, loving following along with your adventure, love Wavey ( had a beagle growing up), love the Bible verses, the “pontifications”, the humor. Take care, enjoy and God bless.

It's too bad that the new owners don't want to keep Bobby's Fish Camp open anymore. It was kind of a landmark place for Loopers to stop there if they could. Nothing lasts forever of course. It's just kind of sad in my mind that so many old school, iconic places are fast fading away.

I think that just a beagle thing.. I have a little asswipe laying on the couch next to me his name's Buddy.. does the same thing when you leave.. and if you don't put him in a crate when you go into a store or something you won't have anything left in your truck that'll be usable it'll all be ripped to shreds.. Is the fuel price that much more at the marinas that it’s worth it to go into towns with Jerry cans?
@backwatersandbackroads
@backwatersandbackroads Ай бұрын
It is for me. Usually $1-$1.50 difference, plus we get off the boat and exercise and see places more. Many loopers literally go from marina to marina. The $20 bucks saved filling up buys some food and treats
