Why not? We think a virus is something we can just "declare victory" over, and it will be "defeated" and we can all go back to work or school without worry. That's what happened in April: We quarantined, we enacted shelter-in-place rules, we enforced curfews and closed most non-essential businesses... And then we *decided* (not because of a cure or vaccine, and not on medical advice) that Covid-19 was beaten. We started re-opening...and people started getting sick at a rate several orders of magnitude higher than they were while Covid was still "active". And our leaders all looked so surprised 😳 This is *scary* ... people who think you can end a pandemic by signing a piece of paper telling everyone to suck it up and go back to work are terrifyingly dangerous. You don't stop a virus by decree or executive order or act of Congress... Covid-19 doesn't *care* if we think we "defeated" it... ...it knows better 😟

debbie garrett - masks do not work but you libtards are so illiterate you cant read. CDC says they dont work: wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/5/19-0994_article ******excerpt below taken from the above linked page on CDC.gov***** Respiratory etiquette is often listed as a preventive measure for respiratory infections. However, there is a LACK OF SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE to support this measure. Whether respiratory etiquette is an effective nonpharmaceutical intervention in preventing influenza virus transmission REMAINS QUESTIONABLE, and worthy of further research. Face Masks In our systematic review, we identified 10 RCTs that reported estimates of the effectiveness of face masks in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infections in the community from literature published during 1946-July 27, 2018. In pooled analysis, we found NO SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION in influenza transmission with the use of face masks (RR 0.78, 95% CI 0.51-1.20; I2 = 30%, p = 0.25) (Figure 2). One study evaluated the use of masks among pilgrims from Australia during the Hajj pilgrimage and reported NO MAJOR DIFFERENCE in the risk for laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infection in the control or mask group (33). Two studies in university settings assessed the effectiveness of face masks for primary protection by monitoring the incidence of laboratory-confirmed influenza among student hall residents for 5 months (9,10). The overall reduction in ILI or laboratory-confirmed influenza cases in the face mask group was NOT SIGNIFICANT in either studies (9,10). Study designs in the 7 household studies were slightly different: 1 study provided face masks and P2 respirators for household contacts only (34), another study evaluated face mask use as a source control for infected persons only (35), and the remaining studies provided masks for the infected persons as well as their close contacts (11-13,15,17). NONE of the household studies reported a SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION in secondary laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infections in the face mask group.... Disposable medical masks (also known as surgical masks) are loose-fitting devices that were designed to be worn by medical personnel to protect accidental contamination of patient wounds, and to protect the wearer against splashes or sprays of bodily fluids (36). There is LIMITED EVIDENCE for their effectiveness in preventing influenza virus transmission either when worn by the infected person for source control or when worn by uninfected persons to reduce exposure. Our systematic review found NO SIGNIFICANT EFFECT OF FACE MASKS on transmission of laboratory-confirmed influenza.

I'd always thought there should be a law that if a motorcycle rider crashed and died without a helmet that the people to scrape up the remains/clean up the crash site should be family members, or they should have to pay a 3rd party, especially if a helmet would have saved the rider(s). In addition, if a reckless vehicle driver caused the accident (drinking/drugging), those drivers would be required to do the cleanup or pay the 3rd party. Yeah, I know, it's not well thought out. I usually slow down when I see a motorcyclist, especially the ones weaving in and out of traffic, and especially when I see motorcyclists on a rainy day.

I said it before & I'll say it again, what's wrong with home schooling, they come up with money for something stupid, but they don't want to help where help is needed, and I'm speaking about the REPUBLICANS, every time something comes to the table to help the people, first they act like it's going to be passed, then just when it comes to issuing it to help us, they shoot it down at the last minute. There is no excuse to be that misinformed this far into the pandemic and with this much information at our fingertips. I can't think of another country where people are so divided over a simple piece of cloth. They have really chosen this hill to die on. Then someone close to them dies from covid and they expect the rest of us to be sympathetic--after months of enduring their selfishness and idiocy. This pandemic could have been much less severe in intensity and duration if everyone in this country cared just even a little bit about their fellow man. Just sickening and I hope these people fade away soon once Trump is out of office and they gradually grow less bold.

Lemme sum up the American education system and how it got us here: 1. All governments are about controlling you and taking your freedom, 2. except ours, which was made by the people and we're totally different because of it, so 3. if anyone tells you what to do and it doesn't match your beliefs, they are tyrants, and 4. p.s if anyone from another country tells you different, they are lying and just jealous of America. @daina36284 жыл бұрын
@@hcox1111 what you just said literally makes no sense. First, we're not all spewing virus, there's still a huge percentage of population that hasn't been infected. Why would you even think that? The mask is there so that people who are NOT yet infected don't get infected, not for the infected to not get infected, how is that hard to understand? Second, no, you can have enough virus in you to make someone else sick and still be COMPLETELY ASYMPTOMATIC. That's why you wear a mask, in case you've been infected but asymptomatic, so you don't go around thinking you're still healthy and infect everyone around you. Third, virus doesn't spread through skin. You can't infect someone by touching them. The virus is in your nose and throat, and when you cough and sneeze, it travels on the tiny droplets of saliva, and if they get into the other person's eyes or nose, that get infected. When you wear a mask, you sneeze and cough behind the mask and the droplets can't get through to infect the other person. So the only way to spew virus is to NOT wear the mask. And four, if you're wearing a mask, you protect everyone else. If everyone else wears a mask, they're protecting you. Voila, that makes EVERYONE protected. That's not rocket science to understand.

@@Kazutoification No, he was correct the first time. It was sarcasm, though. It's NOT a fine line, but people are perceiving it as such bc they are politicizing a pandemic. How many people have vehemently protested dress codes that you know of? Anarchy is not adhering to the rule of law, but the opposite is actually true in this case. It's supported by legal precedent on the basic merits, it just hasn't been argued in the specific context of masks in the high courts bc it's the first pandemic in 100 years. Dress codes have been deemed legally enforceable and not considered a violation of human rights, so why would the requirement to wear a mask inside businesses that requires it to meet other current health & safety concerns be any different? (You also can't directly fondle the meat in a store, is that also protest-worthy?) Americans always have to test their freedoms.... cross the line as often as possible just to prove its limits. The level of freedom isn't established by the government so much as it is by societal norms of the time. WE, as a society, chose to no longer accept firing squads and public hangings, so that a law was then established based on the public's rebuke. We establish both lines, anarchy and fascism.

When I got sick, and didn’t know it was COVID (because the most critical symptoms weren’t there at first), I still kept my distance from people. I remember the one specific event in which, a lady laughed at me, keeping my distance. Elderly... white... in a little cart thing to drive her around the store. She was going to say something, but then moved on. She didn’t know, and I could have said it, but... it wasn’t only for my safety. It was also for hers. As entitled and misguided as she was. The following day I went to get tested and even though some didn’t believe me at work before, about not feeling well, I had the proof... and I knew for sure I couldn’t be out there. My mom had passed it to me, she got it from one of her coworkers, because mom too, would be like that lady, and not always wear her mask because of what others may say... this was back in October 2020, and thankfully we all made it. But... I’m annoyed at the carelessness in my family. Knowing we all live in the same house and that my son has asthma ... The pandemic relied in our carelessness to spread, and is only going to go away or at least be manageable with the amount of input from our parts... on being responsible and accountable.

We don't think of restrictions we've lived under our whole lives as oppression or unconstitutional... they're part of the reality we are comfortable with, just like we'd be "comfortable" living under Nazi or Soviet rule--if we'd never known anything different. Masks disrupt people's lives: they're new and different, and they're a constant reminder of something a lot of us would rather not think about. In a way, we'd be better off if Covid-19 were MORE dangerous: I'm a good example: I don't have Covid (knock on wood), no one I know personally has it, I have never directly seen, met, or spoken to anyone who has it...much less anyone who has died from it. Without outside information, I would not know Covid-19 exists...and I would probably be happier not knowing. So you see, it is both very easy AND very seductive for me to believe the conspiracy theories and the anti-maskers: They're not only telling me what I want to hear, they also aren't contradicting anything I have direct knowledge of... ... it's attractive to imagine that thousands of people aren't REALLY dying, we're just all victims of human history's most complicated and elaborate misinformation campaign... ...a campaign that costs billions of dollars to maintain, requires the cooperation of EVERY government on the planet (even governments that are hostile to each other), would reveal the entire scientific community as deliberate and malicious liars. AND has no clear goal or objective beyond making people think they're sick. In the end, the question is one of plausibility. Which is the rational conclusion? EVERY political, governmental, and medical authority on the entire planet is collaborating in a massive conspiracy that has no particular agenda and could not possibly be worth what it has cost. Or we are experiencing a global viral pandemic. Something horrific, but not unique or unheard of: It has happened many times before, and it will happen again. It is an inevitable consequence of living in a world as interconnected as ours is. So that's your choice: A ridiculous paranoid fantasy that implies things which are worse than any virus.. Or a serious and tragic, but completely explicable reality. Fact is, anyone who refuses to wear a mask is intentionally or unintentionally promoting a nightmarishly delusional mindset. Their indignation and ignorance won't protect them...and worse: it won't protect anyone FROM them😠
