What’s the point in playing if they use stats from overwatch 1. No reset = no play.

I hope one day there is enough heroes, and I think it's close, that there is no more mirror matches. One team picks first, gets to pick one hero, then the other team picks 2 heroes, and it goes 1 for 1 until both teams are full. Think of the strategies involved there. Obviously there are flaws, like needing more support choices, but oh man the strategies involved!

Hey, SVB! I completely agree with you on the spectator function of OWL. I was mainly watching on my phone so that is a variable, but I found it hard to follow what was going on. Not just the camera shifting, but the colors that they chose to represent the teams. Sometimes it was hard for me to make out who was on which team. It was actually kind of frustrating and killed my hype to watch. I don’t do this often, but I spectated my friend’s League of Legends game the other day, and the active camera setting gives you plenty of info to see what’s going on. It doesn’t feel confusing like OWL, and that’s probably more so too because the camera is top down.

No they shouldn't. The general public doesnt care if Overwatch has any content since they don't play it anymore since 2018. Why? Because the game feels shit to play (for most people). You can argue over content all day, if "no one" plays your game no amount of content is going to rescue your ass. The Situation we are in is mostly to content creators demanding content for a game that "no one plays". Samito can rage all day over "Fortune 500 company". At the end of the day, PVE is going to be "the big thing" if Bliz gets it right and the PVP part is going to take MANY years to get somewhere "not B tier". It's just how it works sadly.

Long time listener, first time caller. OW2 beta was good for me, but I’m the only remaining hardcore Overwatch fan in my friend group and it was hard to convince them to come play with so much competition out there. I wish it would have been an open beta rather than a closed beta. I agree with Sam here. The more folks who get in, the more data points they have. Overall, the gameplay / game flow felt SO much better than in 6v6. I know a lot of people complained about how supports felt, but honestly after they added the mercy superjump ability, she was so much fun! At least as a support, it still feels like RNG whether you win or lose - it’s either tank gap or dps gap. Granted, there are the occasional games where it feels like a support diff, it still feels more slanted towards tank/dps. I *LOVE* these podcasts. Keep them coming!

When it came to the support discussion…I was just confused by some of the bad takes. Remove ALL damage amplification? Mercy GA game breaking? Support being not that bad at first (well this one is kind of true, but when you have such a small roster and most players can only really play 2 of them, that is a problem) Also, it’s not so much “supports got nothing new” because everyone knew (at least it should have been known that) going in there was nothing new, but it was rather “the lethality of everything is much higher now and everyone is a flanker”

Imagine your biggest complaint about the beta is it not having competitive mode. What kind of fantasy world are some of these hosts living in? The queue times were often 10 minutes already with just quick play. Aside from all the completely imbalanced crap and people trying new heroes, there would be zero competitive atmosphere. It is just a kind of clownish request because the minute they turned it on all these same people would be complaining about how imba ranked is, how long the queue time is, and on and on.

Sorry comp in a 2 week beta is a non necessity. They had a goal to test a few things and that's what they did. Beware of a Wall of Text: Feel like i have to talk about my brig here. I personally feel like the change to remove stun and give damage instead is great for her. She was supposed to be the low skill anti flank/ anti dive hero. For low rank that doesnt work with the stun, because stuns are useless outside for reaper ult or rein charge. No one can be bothered to look what happens in the backline, so a lot of low rank players played it supposedly right, but didnt have the damage follow up, meaning they really just delayed their death against the genji by 0.75 seconds. With the damage you can actually now punish or at least scare the DPS and sometimes tanks away. If a genji dives you, you left click (35) then bash (50) and then probably left click again, that already puts him under half health. And most would already abort mission at that point, considering one LMB plus whipshot would be their time to appreciate the furniture of the spawn room. And considering the other support might help you at least, there might be another 70 damage already done, potentially even anti'd... Now think of the same thing with the 5 damage stun. The genji comes in, you LMB, stun, LMB; he's still above half health, making him keep the confidence for another shuriken right click, potentially on your head... Situation is much different. The extra damage is much easier to use for lower ranks. Especially since with the armor changes she gets a ton more survivability. Now if they gave brig a proper visual marker for when inspire is active, that would be great. a small symbol next to the cooldowns, that also shows to all people that are getting the effects from it, that could really help her. i am however ready to talk about the fact that she was a bit too good at duels. Abused a bunch of reapers in the beta. Shouldn't happen. Maybe put whipshot damage at 50 instead of 70. Since you wanna use it as a finish move, it would still put the dive DPS in the scary "i am below half HP" but give them another half a second to finish the brig before its the reverse, as she'd need one more swing with the flail.

Also, the things Flats experience about the beta regarding people talking BS in Chat, thats why i generally dislike QP. People are there just to mess around, and often times when its a group friends on the enemy team they get a bit too silly and turn a bit toxic. And absolutely hate that kind of behaviour. Always did, still do. Thats literally how bullying in school works. Just some guys messing around, the silent kid turns the corner "Look, its the silent dude, it's so weird, how he never talks" and then someone whoe doesnt even know them thinks they keep the conversation going... In ranked people are too busy trying not be the obvious problem in the team.

When it comes to the resources they have to host the beta, it's important to not forget they had a hard time constraint with OWL. Everything they did in terms of what was ready revolves around that. If they could have waited 3 months to start it with more content they probably would. I think that's why we have a gap now. The dates were pretty firm as to when they had to have something ready. @@joshuagravois6812 True. It wasn't guaranteed. They already implied it was a priority though. They wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise. If it isn't in beta 2 it almost certainly will be in beta 3. A competitive mode for a 2 or 3 week beta isn't a big deal. When we hit open beta with a month or more to play at a time. Then we can expect a big enough base and a long enough time frame for a proper competitive test. New casual modes, heroes, and maps will always be the bigger draw for a beta competitive being enabled.

I agree with so many points. It needs a rebranding, saying OW2 is just not communicating their product well. Also agree with the beta size. I had so many friends watching owl to get beta access. It was almost impossible for them. With interest declining, why wouldnt they want to refill the queues with new players. Just odd decisions. However I expect each beta to get better, agree with SVB's take on their ability to adapt and change as needed now vs the past.
@greyfalconow94672 жыл бұрын
Well the main thing I'd say OW2 needs is good queue times. Easy way to do that is two methods 1. Quickplay = Midgame hero switching, with 1Tank/2Support Role Limit 2. DPS-only mode = Some sort of game mode. Either just Push/KotH maps. Or get a fancy version of a CounterStrike style mode and double down on stealing Valorant players. Or maybe something like Dirty Bomb. And to balance out the lack of Role Queue on Quickplay, add this mode 3. Unranked, Role Queue, Comp Rules, No SR, has backfill Which also has the benefit of playing both sides of Push
@yoshirox4eva2 жыл бұрын
What's the point of flipping Push? It's a symmetrical mode and imo it kinda sucks so the less time playing it the better imo.

another major argument against having a ranked mode in the beta is queue times. there are only so many players in the beta, and if you split up the playerbase among separate gamemodes and ranks, the queue times wouldve been pretty horrendous.

Like no the old comp shouldnt be in the beta if they are reworking it, and keeping it a closed beta meant there probably wouldnt have been enough people to get proper tests of a new ranked system. But i do agree that this shouldve been an open beta, and as we move along they shouldve been adding more modes and features gradually, like how they added open que, then maybe now they shouldve added mystery heroes and deathmatch or another arcade mode, then after a few more weeks, we get comp and then they keep adding new things throughout the year. This whole situation is super tricky and I don't know if there will ever be a definitive solution to all this. Blizzard wants to do their thing, and the players are demanding another.

Besides Genji though most of my playtime goes to Ana and Zen, and I totally agree with the FOMO comment that was made where most likely people weren''t playing support as much because there weren't new things. I felt like a crazy person for a bit because everyone said they hated playing support but I actually PREFER Ana's 5v5 playstyle. To each their own I guess.

Don't feel bad about asking for all those changes, seeing them implemented and not getting a positive response you expected. All of those changes are absolutely _necessary_ for the long-term health of the game and retention of players, but none of these changes draw players to the game. These suggested changes massively refine the existing game, but they don't make it a new game. They take away stuff rather than add stuff, and people are mostly drawn to novelty so adding tonnes of new stuff is essential to attracting players in the first place.

The Streamers got less viewership because everyone saw the beta and went on. Look at Twitch Stats of the last 6 Years. Hero gets released -> 7 Days Later: Back to normal. It's just how it works. Thats not Blizzards fault. If Bugatti releases a new car they get attention for a couple days and thats it. New shiny stuff is not shiny anymore VERY fast. Stuff like this works in spikes not in rising numbers. More people means bigger numbers and since the beta got played by the existing core fanbase... What do you expect? You guys should know this as professional content creators tbh. Also: The State of the Beta is what it is right now because YOU (the content creators) pressured Blizzard for years to release it. It's your main fault. The general public (aka. the casual) doesn't give af. only a select small few (aka the competitive community who doesnt spend much money anyway) cares. Content creators pressured Blizzard publicly for years to release content and they reacted. If you don't like your present. Yeah thats how Christmas turns out sometimes. Also: Samito himself said: You need a playble game when Overwatch League Starts. You got your playable game. There you have it. Thats what Blizzard can show you. There is no open Beta. We would have it if it was possible for Blizzard.

Flats is right, the supports need to be active and fun. I never saw people complaining support was weak, people complained supports were boring. To SVB's point about new support heroes, a new hero doesn't affect how fun a current hero is. Player 2 getting to slide up walls and heal doesn't make bap more fun. Regenitive Bursts change did not make it any more fun.

It would be funny if Blizzard simply adopted the "Overwatch 1.1" designation for their marketing, and talked about things as a roadmap towards Overwatch 2 and marked major milestones with a minor version bump. Anyway, what a mess, they better learn from Apex Legends.

. My main issue with push isn't even about gameplay its about its environment and visual aspect. With payload all the payloads on the different maps, look different and shaped differently. While the push robot and the barriers look exactly the same. I think it'll be really nice if the robot and barriers looked diffrent on diffrent maps. Maybe even replacing the robot with something else completely. It adds alot for the world building and fun of the maps imo if it's not just the same robot and barriers make them unique. Also considering the maps have to be shape wise almost identical on both sides it provides a big challenge for making those places unique. Like some areas are gonna be very hard to make the same shape and feel natural. Like if there's a push map in a dessert it's hard to justify one side of the map having the same layout as the other side. They can do it I have no doubt, but just the fact it exists makes it feel like that place isn't real in a sense you know?

I feel like the Alpha should have been called the 'Closed Alpha,' and the 1st Beta should have been called the 'Tech Alpha' to better set the expectations for the devs' intentions. Bill this as a limited/exclusive thing to test out a larger public audience, stress test, and give people and exclusive chance to try out the patch the pros are on... Beta coming in a month or two. This beta was in line with Betas I played in the 00's, but the industry has changed what is considered a "Beta" is basically a demo/early access. A lot of Betas back in the day just had one map! I appreciate them keeping it old school, but they need to adjust their terminology. I'm sad for the end of the Beta because I've really been enjoying Doomfist tank. I'm watching OWL and just really dissatisfied in OW1 because I finish watching matches and I want to login and play some Doom, but I don't have access to play that iteration of the hero... I understand why people were so upset about hero pools, because it's essentially like my favorite hero has been banned for at least a month.

Maybe for the release of overwatch 2 pve, they should have a sub title. Similar to Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty. Maybe something like Overwatch 2: Omnic Uprising or sth

So what’s the point in playing the game if you know your going to be playing comp with and against the same people all the time. That’s the problem I have with the game is if your hard stuck and can’t get out the only answer is buy a new account and try again and I refuse to do that. It is sad when you know what matches you win and lose based on the names of the people that join your matches. In low ranks if you get the same people over and over again then you get a feel of if the match is over before it begains.

I disagree with a lot of what freedo says…. Not only in this video either. All I got to say is you bring up points about content released being enough but I’ll call bs because they announced over half of the content a yr and in some cases 2 years ago. So when the new shit comes out it doesn’t actually feel so new… like sojourn… it’s cool to finally see the kit but am I sitting like oh yeah that’s a cool new hero I cannot wait to play!!! No… I’ve seen it it looks meh like oh cool we finally get the shit they actually put out in the ethos 2 hrs ago or a year ago… again content drought everything we got we shit we already knew about and have been waiting on over 6months while we continue to get almost no new content and even the skins they make yippee fuckin skippie they changed some colors congratulations…. *Dead slow clap* get us new shit and stop introducing shit we have to wait for we have been waiting 2-3years I mean the game came out 7years ago and we haven’t gotten good content for almost what a 3rd of the games existence. How about a new hero? Now about putting 1 new map on the game? How about you give us what we have been lacking for all this time… not to mention this beta totally fucked comp on overwatch 1 because people play like they don’t even care it’s competitive.

I think the discussion about supports was people really saying that supports weren't fun although what came out of their mouths is that supports are bad.

Samito out here preaching the real major hot take, which really shouldn't of be a hot take if you think about it.. But I think he nailed it on the head. Above most other problem with the beta, all of them seemingly are tangentially or directly related to the call to make this an especially limited closed beta. I feel like wider content creators space down plays just how tight the beta access and role out actually was. Which is why I'm happy Sam called it out directly I don't want this part to sound like"boo hoo, oh woah is me" but I'm using the anecdote to express a point. I am a player who puts lot of hours into the game, actively consumes overwatch content in 2022. All the creators here occupy my home page semi regularly. I applied for the beta sign up first day it dropped, I watched league matches on my connected KZbin on the ONE day they had drop, plus I'm one of the, few in the, community that will watch the league games for the value of the league games themselves and to watch Platchat. Basically my point is someone like me who already self select themselves herd to be be in the overwatch ecosystem couldn't even get into the beta. Then imagine on a statistical level how many people who are less invested then me, who may of gotten a, second wind passion for the game again, from seeing all the hype around overwatch 2. Just to have have that hype immediately blunted when it hits then that despite the hype still being there around overwatch 2, they Appearently already lost their chance before they even knew they had one Those fans even if they don't just immediately hibernate on overwatch and they stick around to watch overwatch 2 content. Since they are in the perspective of the jaded squidward watching SpongeBob and Patrick have all this supposed fun with the beta. They are much more likely be receptive to that "whatever, doesn't even look that special, just overwatch 1.1" take. The content creators hyping things up and being like"we finally eating good boys,beta keys, get your beta keys here" that messaging did not match the reality of the actual role out of said beta. That's a fumble on the behalf of the shot calling decisions at the top.

Samito needs to learn the difference between a customer and a consumer in this industry. Customers are buying products and trying to get the value they pay for out of them. Consumers is what the industry wants. A large group that purchases the product and they have no sway over the product because it is dominated consumers that will buy the product without question. We have to force the industry to see us as customers that demand better products that crap like this.
