CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The tension between Chet (John Candy) and Roman (Dan Aykroyd) finally boils over.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In the John Hughes-scripted The Great Outdoors, John Candy stars as Chet Ripley, an oafish paterfamilias who takes his family on a vacation at a lakeside resort. Their enjoyment is seriously compromised when brother-in-law Roman Craig (Dan Aykroyd) shows up with his wife and kiddies. The rest of the film is an ongoing war between Ripley's carefree aggregation and Craig's obnoxiously prissy brood, and making things worse, a driving rainstorm forces both families to remain under one roof well-past their threshold of patience. Annette Bening makes her film debut as Aykroyd's ill-tempered wife.
CREDITS:
TM & © Universal (1988)
Cast: Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Ian Giatti, Chris Young, Annette Bening, Stephanie Faracy, Hilary Gordon, Rebecca Gordon
Director: Howard Deutch
Producers: John Hughes, Elena Spiotta, Arne Schmidt, Stephen Lim, Tom Jacobson

@@crystalteardrop2605 - Not here 1 year late to preach or anything. Chris Farley was just getting to John Candy status. If he didn't pass away at the time he did, he had that last notch to reach to have become the modern day John Candy. I don’t care about the cheesy teenage romance. I don’t care that people think this a subpar film. I don’t care that so many tropes in this are borderline cliche. What I DO care about, is that this scene right here not only justified this entire movie, it is perhaps the best written and executed scene regarding a family argument IN ANY MOVIE! this is relatable and realistic! Anyone who’s ever spend time with family, especially in laws and uncles can attest to this!
@OldieWan
@OldieWan 3 жыл бұрын
Very much so. And this was pre internet. In the long long ago, in the before times. These things are timeless classics that still hold up today. Because what is shown here is the truth. The truth is a very powerful thing. It holds a deeper connection in our minds. Typical connection memories are lost over time due to the chemical process that makes up our brains. Connect something as relatable and truthful as this. It stays with you your whole life. Hollywood truly changed. They are no longer one of us. Thus their creations land less often and are much more rare. Unless you subjectively enjoy what Hollywood does today and are known for.

@J Ygb it's the flap that you close to block off your chimney so cold air doesn't come back down when your not using it. If you open it when it's cold and try to start a big fire right away the smoke can come back into the house since there might be a draft pushing back down the chimney. If you start with a small fire you can "heat the flue" to get the draft going up the chimney before you make a lot of smoke, which is what John candy is referencing and Dan akroyd is calling bullshit on. It really shows how well this scene is written, anyone who's ever argued about how to start a fire has been there and that's why it's so funny.

A Great Movie that simply told of family moments of the past. That was a good example of how maybe 🤔🤔 the simple times of being together are the most significant and everlasting ones which meld & weld an entire Family together forever. John Candy knew the meaning of those truth's & had a very unique but endearing way of passing on the love & emotions of those old family value's & thier nostalgic values. May God allow him too RIP & always be remembered Thank you for the Reminder 🎗️🎗️🎗️.
