Here is the scene dialogue from the ending train station scene from the original "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" script, read by yours truly from John Hughes's actual copy.
On "STEVE! (martin)," the new documentary about Steve Martin, he references this scene when recalling his experience and friendship with the late John Candy. I own this original script from John Hughes and decided to share it. "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" is my favorite comedy of all time and this is also the first that I have read this.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a 1987 American comedy-drama film written, produced, and directed by John Hughes and starring Steve Martin and John Candy, with supporting roles by Laila Robins and Michael McKean. It tells the story of Neal, a high-strung marketing executive, and Del, a good-hearted but irritating salesman, who become travel companions when their flight is diverted, and embark on a three-day odyssey of misadventures trying to reach Chicago in time for Neal's Thanksgiving Day dinner with his family.

I just saw the interview with Steve Martin yesterday and HAD to find that scene! That movie is a staple at my house (VHS of course) and that scene chokes me up EVERY SINGLE TIME we watch it. Thanks so much for posting this video

Oh yeah, thanks for sharing. I was not aware of this deleted segment. I also understand how pacing the film most likely caused it to be omitted, but it could’ve been an incredible moment in Candy’s performance.

I was 13ish when this movie came out. Made me cry then, makes me cry now. Of all the comedians that died too soon, I miss John Candy the most.
