It's ironic, that they dreamed of having a parade in Moscow, and they actually got one. Though not in role they expected.

Very many thanks for uploading this series. I am enjoying it immensely. I have just been reading Rokossovsky's own book A soldier's Duty and Sokolov's biography. He was a very impressive person both as a human being and a Commander of true brilliance.

During the years of "debunking the cult of Stalin's personality", only Rokossovsky spoke in defense of Stalin. He justified this by saying that "there was nothing left for Stalin to do." For the stake in the political situation was the very life of the nation. The other marshals wisely said nothing-Khrushchev was very vindictive and suspicious.

I had seen operation Bagration in a documentary on TV, in one of the channels covering history. Now here there is more information. Logistically the Soviets had more resources, just like America, to fight an extended war and to feed many prisoners of wars. Nazi Germany had a tough military, and re-armed itself within a decade, despite restrictions and war reparations imposed right after ww1. During ww2, Germany could have invaded any small country in Europe. Germany had only enough food for it's own army , navy , air force and some western POW's. Nazi military doctors and Nazi hospitals had far FEWER resources than western military doctors and hospitals.

He escrito algo similar.

I’ve always been fascinated by that bizarre parade in Moscow and at the amazing turn of fortune a lot of those German soldiers/prisoners must have experienced. How horribly depressing it must have been though tough to feel sympathy for them based on their conduct during that war. The narration is not totally honest about one part - the reason the streetcars followed the parade was to clean up after the thousands of prisoners who shit themselves because their Soviet captors fed them a special soup/porridge beforehand which loosened their bowels, and further added to their humiliation.

Rumor has it, that number is only a minimal determination. Herrengruppe Mitte, consisted of nearly 1.1M troops, of which atleast half were completely vanguished in the 8+week operation(brutalisation?) Its said, during the opening bombardment of the immense soviet Artillery army, completly 'evaporated' entire batallions; 10-20.000 men: Gone in a few instants.. THAT many bombs and katjusha-missiles concentrated in a constant fire.... it must have been terrible. Even images from WW-I's Shellshocked troops in trenches would pale near that sight...The entire Herrengruppe Mitte was dismantled in this operation: Which troops survived, mostly surrendered and were transported to gulags soon after. But the strategical brilliance of it all was that this operation, exposed the weakest Herrengruppe Sud, over a 2000km wide front, and cut off weakened Herrengruppe Nord, on their retreat from Leningrad! This battle basically won the entire war.

@Anekchap Ckbopuob..(idk i dont speak or type Russian or some haha!) ITs more then just Barbarossa! When the Red Army retook their lands after years of Nazi-oppresion, they returned to their hometowns to see them fully abandoned of life. Villages that blushed with activity: 20.000 people... All gone! not a soul left! Not one or two, no, hundreds, thousands of villages, all the peope, GONE! Soldiers hoping to liberate their loved ones, came to see everything and everyone they had ever known, were gone! Count on top of that, the suffering in the Siege of Leningrad; the hundreds of thousands that died of a tortureous starvation, the terrible guerrlilla war at Stalingrad and the casualties during Barbarossa, on top of that!(the 'Meatgrinder of Rhzev: Stalins last bloody, desperate, yet barely succesful attempt to halt the Nazi-advantages: In a good weeks time, the Wehrmacht was held off by fiece Soviet-resistance at the Rhzev-region, but the casualties on Soviet side, were unimaginable. historians still Judge Stalin's lack of human like in those days, but the alternative was the Nazi's acually reaching and taking Moscow, which would have been the end of Russia!) The Great Patriotic War was one of great bloodshed, suffering and loss of life for the Soviets. From all the allied forces, the Russians are mostly underestimated for their important part of it! Here in the west we're taught about the hero's of D-day, yet D-day pales at the sight of the scale of Operation Bagration! That was the real battle that decided the War! The entire East-front was LOST to the Nazi's in those 8 weeks! D-day was merely a distraction! The Soviet-preparations for the entire-campaign is absolutely stunning to read about; Months of 'fake troop-movements' towards Romania's oil-fields to delude the Nazi's into thinking they'd strike there, instead of what they did: Obliterate the strongest army, cut off the retreating Northern Army, and exposing the Southern army over far too wide a front... Daring, but the Soviets had the Resources to pull this off, and they did! Operation Bagration is probably THE greatest militairy achievement in human history! Not just for the immense planning it took to pull off, but mostly because of its DEVASTINGLY decisive result! Bagration was the beginning of the end! Too few people know, how hard Russia fought to achieve this!

Understand the perspective: For almost 4 years, the Nazi-wehrmacht had been pushing back the Red Army, and laid siege to Mayor cities even: Leningrad, Stalingrad, they even reached the outskirs of Moscow! The strategical deployment of enemy troops at that point in the war, ment that not only did Operation Bagration prove a huge success in forcing a breakthrough on the Main Front, it effectively ANNIHILATED the entire Main force that was stopping Soviet advancements, even better: Reaching het Baltic Sea, literally ment, the weakened Herrengruppe Nord, retreating from Leningrad, was here CUT OFF from the rest of Nazi-Germany, whilst the weakest of the 3 main-armies: Herrengruppe Sud, on their retreat after their stunning defeat at Stalingrad, now had over 2000km of shore to defend, from the Black Sea, to the Baltic'....Aka 1 big move and the entire german lines were exposed like a wound rended with a butchers cleaver!

@Ares016 is there though, Operation Bagration 1st step was a massive diversion move, making it look they were abandoning that particular front, by sending loads of transports and troops and material, DURING DAYTIME, from those lines to other places... Only to send a multitude of that, back over night, reinforcing those exact lines to the Pinnacle of power, in the deepest secret! At the same time, the Red Army built a 'fake army' semi-camouflaged in lines near the Romanian borders, 'aiming to threaten their oil-fields'- which was a logical move, regarding the need for a more closeby source for fuel and lubricants for motorised and mechanised units! Yet it was all a Diversion! Operation Bagration completely fooled the Nazi-commander; The Chief in Command of Herrengruppe-Mitte, even went on releif for 2 weeks, 3 days before the Offensive! The germans were THAT confident that the Russian Offensive would be in Romania, not the Ukraine! It worked out masterful, and briljant! With effectively DESTROYING the entire Herrengruppe Mitte, cutting off the North-army, and exposing the South army of the nazis, Russia was in a position now to dictate the remainder of the War! If you realise how they pulled this off, with al lthe hundreds of thousands(millions!) of men, equipment, and resources, its nigh-infathomable how the USSR managed to set up such a supermassive Operation of this scale, and even be THIS succesful! Perhaps you should search for the English version of this episode! They do highlight a lot of the strategical deployments before, during and after as well. perhaps the russian commentairy is a lot differently orientated! But this was certainly THE most stunning, dared, and mindblowing operation in human-warfare to this day, if you ask me! Two point FOUR million men, and a near incountable barrage of Katjusha'-artilelry as an opener for the Russian version of 'D-Day'... Holy F*CK!!....Makes the 160k men that landed in Normandy more like a 'smurf-job'... :S
@thegreenreaper6660
@thegreenreaper6660 4 жыл бұрын
@ares106 Another detail, i think wás mentioned in the English-version of this documentairy, was the important Tank-battle of Kursk in the summer before that! German Operazion Citadelle was in terms of numbers, and losses, quite the succes, yet, the Russians outproduced the German militairy industry on a 1-3 factor at the time! That battle COST the Nazi-army their mainstay of strong mechanised batallions! A loss they couldnt recover from because the RUSSIANS made THREE tanks for every 1 german rolling out of the factory! At this point! The Eastern Front was already doomed! Russia built ui a gigantic force to push the invaders out of their motherland, and bring a desicive blow! Which they did in the absolutely STUNNING Operation Bagration; the 1944 Soviet Summer Offensive! I think the only battles in human history that come close the the magnitude of this, are the ones that the Mongol Kahns held during their reigns of terror, Or the Asian wars in those times where populations wer vaster then Europes, and slaughers in the hundreds of thousands were 'far more common'... So imagine the immense achievement there perhaps of the mighty Red Army! As a 'westerling', i have learnt to have great respect for the forgotten war in the East, and HOW HARD those russian b*stards had fought! How much their people suffered as well, some even more then any!(Leningrad, Stalingrad? Those were HELL-holes in those times!) The Red Army liberated Stalingrad in a stunning and devastating manouvre that crippled Herrengruppe Sud. The long siege of Leningrad was lifted as well, and forced the weakened and demoralised Herrengruppe Nord, to retreit as well! The only REAL army that was still intact was Herrengruppe Mitte, and the Red Army completely SMASHED that ENTIRE ARMY in the 8 weeks they call 'Operation Bagration'(The few prisoners from Herrengruppe Mitte were transported to Gulags and very few were ever heard from again: 8 weeks; -1.1M of Germany's BEST troops and their supporting units, tanks,.. the works.. All gone!). Rumors have it, entire German battalions were 'evaporised' by the ferocious artillery bombardments of Katjusha's just screaming for hours on end.... They werent accurate, but very easy to produce fire, and reload, so the Russians just send a ridicoulous sh*tload instead! And lolmode: Katjusha's could be mounted on a fkn tractor with a few profiles welded to its Lift even! NEarly anything on a few wheels could be a Katjusha battery! Go figure 'Russian Creativity" :P

These videos, especially the Russian losses never address why the Russian casualties were so much higher than the German casualties. Here I am not just talking about Brvarissa (1941), but throughout the Ostkrieg. And even in the great Russin victories, their losses were enormous. Of course, there were many factors, but there was one overriding factor, and the Soviets as well as the Russians today do not want to admit it.

@@luckystriky1860 You obviously are a not-very-subtle mouthpiece for Putin. How is the invasion of Ukraine going for you folks? Are you proud of killing Ukrainian babies? Your knowledge of history is limited, although you are letter-perfect in repeating Soviet Propaganda. Perhaps you missed the fact that the Soviet Union no longer exists. Most of the people you name came in very small numbers. The large numbers were primarily Romanians, Italians, and Hungarians. The Romanian participation was large because the Soviet Union invaded and seized northeastern Romania (1940). Just as the Soviet Union as a NAZI ally invaded Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania (1939-40). Apparently you folks have still not learned that when you invade another country you make enemies. There were very few Ukrainian NAZIs, then are now. It is Russia that is behaving like a Fascist country. And I suggest you open a history book, the Poles were a Soviet ally--despite your barbaric treatment of the Polish people. Read about Katyn. There were Ukrainian anti-Soviets, largely because of the 5 million Ukrainians the Soviet Union murdered in 1931-32. The French were also Soviet allies, despite Soviet support for the German invasion of France (1940).

"Your knowledge of history is limited"?😂 man, YOUR knowledge of history not just limited, its propaganda shit, totaly. even now you are just talking like mass media shitters. are you proud of yourself? 🤣 what history book you are suggesting? some western crap? poles were soviet ally?🤣 oh really?after war in 1920, after 1938 when they as a nazi invaded in czechoslovakia and accupied part of it just like german it was good piece maker thing? start with this when you are telling about events in 39-40. and how they did not let soviets army come for aid their ally(chech) just before that invasion. thats(polland) a really ally indeed, just like what heroes do right? they became some sort of ally when realised that they are next meal for germany and just like the rest of the world in that days they wanted a piece of a pie for themself. and that holodomor stories just damn...why you are so stupid. there were NO such thing, there were a real hunger in ussr not just in ucraine. russia lost about 2mln people and about 1mln in kazahstan. so just shut up about theese "murders" its not even close, stop beeing stupid blond cheeck with a half brain. just a simple example: you have a business, you have a house, wife, kids. but in some period of time you ve made mistakes and you ve lost or business. and now your familу is starving. that is not making you a murder (if they would die), but some neighbor who wants your wife for himself can spread such rumours.

@@AldesAst Wonderful presentation of Soviet propaganda. You seemed to have missed that the Soviet Union had been consigned to the ash can of history. I never know if people like you really believe that nonsense or just a Putin troll,. Of course, there are countries that agree with you--North Korea and Iran. Amazing that Russia is such a pitiful country that it needs North Koran and Iranian help to defeat Ukraine.

@@AldesAst Magnificent. A perfect statement of Soviet propaganda. Stalin would be O so proud of you. Perhaps you have noted it yet. The Soviet Union has been assigned to trash can of history. Try studying why--it might save Russia.

So much higher? The total military casualties ratio on the eastern front was 1.3:1, which is damn average The attacker also taken more casualties on average than the defenders, also the only time they actually suffered massive casualties was in 1941, they were on average 1:2 in causalities for the most offensives battles
