For the first 2 years of the War, the Soviet Union was a NAZI ally (1939-41). They provided vast quantities of oil and other critical materials that made the German 1940 offensive possible. And like the NAZIs, the Soviets invaded peaceful countries (Poland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia Lithuania, and Romania, and committed terrible atrocities there. 2) The Red Army had to fight the Germans largely alone in large measure because they aided and supplied the NAZI war machine, playing a major role in the defeat of the French Arny. 3) Part of the reason that the Germans amassed such a powerful invasion force for Barbarossa, was all the assurance the Soviets gave them (19390=-41). 4) There is no real mention of the War in the West which in fact played an important role in the Soviet victory in the East. I find that most Russians today have no idea of the importance of the War in the West. Which I will be glad to detail if you are interested.

We, in the West, were comparitively lucky that Hitler did not treat civillians anywhere so disgracefully as happened in the USSR. I am really distressed by the cruelty visited on the Soviets. No people deserved that disgusting genocidal horror. I have the greatest respect for the extraordinary courage and sacrifice which was common among all russian military and civillian people. @dennisweidner2883 жыл бұрын
@@劳资就是中国人有本事 Absolutely. Fair question. I can explain HOW the video misrepesents Barbarossa. As to WHY the editors did this I am not at all sure. I believe it is part of a general Russian pattern of attempting to down play the importance of the war in the West. Here are some of the major issues I noticed showing HOW the video misrepresents Barbarossa.: 1. Not a world about how the Luftwaffe was weakened .by the RAF in the Battle of Britain, affecting the air support received by the Ostheer.www.histclo.com/essay/war/ww2/air/eur/bob/bob-out.html 2. A total misrepresentation of the Ostheer. About half the video is a depiction of German tanks. This gives the impression that the Ostheer was a modern highly mechanized force. It was not. About 80 percent of the Ostheer was unmotorized infantry, moving east on foot using horse-drawn carts to carry their supplies. Yet the only horses shown in the video are Red Army horses. www.histclo.com/essay/war/ww2/air/eur/sbc/eco/gie-doh.html 3. Not a word about how the war in the West had cut off the Germans from importing resources, especially oil. There only major source was Ploesti and it was inadequate. www.histclo.com/essay/war/ww2/eco/raw/oil/w2ero-ger.html 4. Not a word about how the Soviets under the Molotov-Ribentropo Pact were supplying the Germans with vast quantities of oil and other strategic materials (1939-41) which helped create the Ostheer that invaded the Soviet Union. 5. Not a word about how the war in the West was forcing the Germans to direct their resources and industry away from the Ostkrieg. It does not take much industry to build horse carts, it does to build aircraft and ships/uboats. www.histclo.com/essay/war/ww2/air/eur/sbc/eco/sbc-gie.html German manpower was in the East, but their industrial production primarily went west leaving the Ostheer poorly supplied and supported. 6. A misrepresentation of Stalin. A 3 million man invasion force moving to the border could not be hidden. The video suggests that warnings got lost in the Soviet bureaucracy. This is not factually correct. In fact Stalin ignored the many reports that got to him and got so many warnings that he ordered NKVD Chief Beria to begin to arrest people sending in the reports. www.histclo.com/essay/war/ww2/camp/eur/sov/stalin/warn/bw-sta.html 7. Inadequate coverage of Stalin's Red Army purges (mid-30s) which especially targeted the officers who believed in mobile warfare and the effective use of tanks--basically any one connected with Tukhachevsky. www.histclo.com/essay/war/com/sov/purge/scsp-mil.html

@@chiangju-an2330 Ju-an the issues you raised are debatable. Competent historians debate these issues. There are reasonable arguments on both sides. My issues with this video are factual well established observations on which historians agree: 1. Intelligence on German preparations did not just get lost. Stalin actually ordered Beria (the NKVD chief) to take action against the individuals reporting on the German preparations which he believed to be British disinformation. 2. Ignored the damage the RAF did to the Luftwaffe in he Battle of Britain. 3. Misrepresentation of the Ostheer. The images we see are mostly tanks and some trucks--suggesting a highly modern, mechanized force. Nothing could be further from the truth. Some 80 percent of the Ostheer was unmotorized infantry on foot and using horse-drawn carts. 4. For 2 , I don't know any information and I can't comment. Regarding this series itself, I have to point out there is an deficient section. I think most prominent is, the 3rd Kharkov battle which was conducted by Marshal Manstein. The victory is brilliant, and probably one of the greatest offensive-defensive victories in history. The German therefore was still holding initiative through early 1943. This series is jumping from Stalingrad to Krusk without any connection. Is it only an ignorance or, intention? I don't know. It is only a cinema and could not encompass all. I think we should not expect/put that much on some specific issues. Put aside these to historians. In fact I am working on that very subject. histclo.com/essay/war/ww2/camp/eur/sov/stalin/warn/bw-sta.html But you can Google "Was Stalin warned about Barbarossa" and all kinds if info comes up. 2. Information on German losses in the Battle of Britain are well documented. Easily accessible on the web. I can tell you that in aircraft numbers the Luftwaffe had more or less replaced the losses. But had it now bee for the Battle of Britain, the Luftwaffe would have been much larger for Barbarossa. And while they replaced planes, they could not replace the many experienced pilots and air crews. And given the size of the Soviet Union, there was a desperate need for air support. 3. I did not see one single German horse, but shot after shot after shot of tanks--tanks galore. They did picture Red Army horses. You have to wonder why they so misrepresented the Ostheer. 4. I suppose that you could argue that the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was a defensive agreement, but the Secret Codicil shows that it was not. histclo.com/essay/war/com/sov/nsnap/nap-cod.html But what is undeniable is that the Soviets delivered vast quantities of oil and strategic materials to the NAZIs. This is well documented. Yes, I agree. The Germans were very good at making war. And it did not help that Stalin shot large numbers of his best generals. Yes, I also enjoyed watching it. The Ostkrieg was the central camapign of the war. And the video does explain some of the movements fairly well.

Here is my assessment of the war in the West. The Ostkrieg was the the decisive campaihn in the War. It was won by the Red Army. The Western contribution was to prevent the Germans from using its industry to properly equipping the Ostheer. The Ostheer was not a modern mechanized army. They had some modern units, but 80 percent of the Ostheer was unmotorized infantry. Which meant that the Germans invaded the Soviet Union on foot with horse-drrawn carts for supply. www.histclo.com/essay/war/ww2/air/eur/sbc/eco/sbc-gie.html

Soviet Russia Land/Air forces in the West either where aware of the coming *threat* or were not. And whatever this film pretends, what all Russian pilots whom I've seen the testimonies of the June 22 alarms thought: « Oh sh** ! yet another exercise, on Sunday! ». Somehow, Germans had convinced the soviet high command that their troups moving to the East were preparing to head for the English-dominated Middle East. Therefore the Stavka was trying to have the Red army ready for a possible war... next year ie. 1942. Note how the French staff (yeah my country) *knew* for a year that « they'll come »... and managed to react slower still than their Red army counterparts did. This said it's a must for me to watch the *russian* view of WW2 events. спасибо!
