A very interesting documentary. But please be aware that at 6:24 and again at 25:02 Japan's wartime Prime Minister Kantaro Suzuki is incorrectly identified as Zenko Suzuki, who served as Japan's prime minister from 1980 to 1982. As far as I can tell the two were not related.

Glad That Red Army.got back those Kurile Islands that Japan took from Russia after Russo Japanese War of 1905.Japan moaning and groaning about this nowdays. The Only way RF would consider giving them back would be that US military get Out of Japan And Okinawa.Period.And Japan renounce Any move to develope offensive weapons.RF would gain protection with Empire Forces(US) not threatening RF and Japan would finally be Free of foreign control.

@@darkknightbatman8269 Mongolia was the first country to help the Soviet Union in the fight against Fascist Germany, not the USA. It helped as much as It could - with meat, fodder, felt, sheepskin. More than one thousand soldier's greatcoats are sewn from Mongolian wool. But most of all, the Red Army was grateful to the Mongol people for their horses. Hardy and unpretentious, they supplied the soldiers with everything they needed: clothing, food, medicines, weapons. Not long time ago a monument was erected on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow. The sculpture depicts Mongolian horses pulling an artillery gun off-road. This monument, indeed, can be called a symbol of mutual assistance of the two countries. They also helped with equipment, more precisely, the funds collected in the neighboring country went to the production of tanks. The formed column of fifty-three armored vehicles was named "Revolutionary Mongolia". Marshal Choibolsan himself came to hand it over.

@@darkknightbatman8269 Mongolia, under the slogan "Everything for the front, everything for victory", decided to help the Soviet people wholeheartedly. Aid to the Soviet people in those years of the war accounted for one third of all gratuitous aid that the Soviet Union received from abroad. Six echelons of 237 carriages each were sent, where from the heart, collected from all over Mongolia gifts - food, warm clothes, mittens and much more that is so necessary for the Red Army. Actually the amount of gratuitous aid to the Soviet Union is two annual budgets of Mongolia. The Soviet Union did not remain in debt. Having finished with the fascists on the Western Front, it came to the aid of the Mongol brothers on the Eastern front. Together they defeated the Japanese militarists. And so far there are sincere and good relations between our countries, relations tested by time and common trials. Thank you so much our mongolian brothers. We do remember your invaluable help.

Joshua Yeah, a paranoid dictator purging his army will have that result. Stalin murdered a large part of his experienced and talented officer corps because he was afraid of them. Not mentioned in the series so far and I've watched all of it up to here.

@@deltavee2 Acually this a bit more complicated. There is alot of lies about Stalin favored by western and russian propaganda. The main reason for west - USSR was evil and Stalin was devil, the reason for russian propaganda against him is Khrushev hunger for power and only way to get power is to get rid of Stalin. All leaders after Khrushev has continued this line to hide thier incompetence comparing to Stalin. If you start to learn about Stalin and his leadership you will understand that his quality of managment was not comparable to any leader in the world after him, including present time. Maybe Roosevelt was somewhere in his league. There is a lot of reasons for shortage in officers and so their younger ages in average. 1. After ww1, 3 revolutions and civil war many russian imperial and red officers fall in battles. 2. Many imperial officers migrated from USSR, but some left, for example Shaposhnikov - brilliant imperial officer that made huge impact building and developing Red Army and later victory in Great Patriotic War. He served Motherland, not Tsar or Stalin. 3. "Stalin purges" - not Stalins really, they were initiated by communist party members with ties to Khrushev to save/gain power for high ranking party members, which Stalin wanted to end, because he think that there is no need for them during peace time and that they are slowing state development. For example high ranking party members have to control work of enterprises, which was usefull during Civil war turmoil and right after it, when state needed lots of manual fine tuning to achive its goals. But later, when situation got much more stable, and enterprises developed so much that commissars cant fine tune anything, because thay lack deep knowledge and education related to this enterprise, this quickly turned to corruption schemes when party commissar coming to "check" work of factory, and some not so fair and capable factory directors trying to hide their mistakes and abuse of power by offering very valuable "gifts" to commissar. Sometimes this gifts was very pricey brilliants, sometimes less valuable goods/favors. Stalin was against "purges", but Khrushev tied party members initiated them in such a way, that Stalin must accept them, or lose his post. After they were initialized Stalin made many things to cripple purges, and to stop them, but managed to stop them only after several years. And btw many, who initiated this purges, were died by them as many in party used purges as a tool in battle for power inside communist party. As a result 700k ppl were executed in process. BTW when Khrushev finally came to power he decided to rehabilitate victims of purges, but after all cases were checked it turns out that 98% them were acually guilty, which doesnt sound surprising considering that USSR survived WW1, 3 revolutions and Civil War and there was acually a lot of ppl that dreamed to turn back time and get back what they lost (valuables or power, or both), even if this will be treason. 4. The main reason for shortage in officers was rapid growth of Red Army. Soviet leadership knowed that WW2 will start at some point, and started prepearing state for this right after the end of Civil war. This was especially intensive several years before WW2. But its quite easy to get conscripts, and relatively easy to train them, but to train officers you will need years in Militray High Schools, for this you need to build this schools, and find capable ppl to train your future officers. This needs time, many years. So when WW2 started USSR got so many officers that can get, and during WW2 many capable army personnel will become officers without Militaty School education, but with real combat experience and remarkable achievments in battles. Ofc later many who survived war and decided to continue their military career got Military education in academies. So "Purges" is well cared and maintained myth to spread lies about Stalin, Soviet leadership in general, communism and socialism, which all are bad dream for many in power nowadays. Ofc i cannot say that Purges was good, but it is what it is. Some ppl was innocent, some were guilty, but not deserved to be shot, but most of them were guilty. BTW descendants of some purged got very interesting history, some of them were briliant ppl, got education and made many good things for Motherland, but some still seek for revenge, most recent is ex-president Eltsin, which got very interesing and not so bright family history.

This gives me a new area to learn about so I will cut and paste your response to my computer to appreciate it more. I have always wondered about the interplay between Stalin and Kruschev and how Kruschev prevailed. I appreciate the insight. Best regards from a Canadian.
